Chapter 1606 Improvement
"Donna's backpack was full of candy, but who knew it also had life-saving pills in it," Annika mentioned casually.
Sadie didn't say a word, quietly slipping out of the room.
Downstairs, Gabriella was scolding the two nurses, "You were supposed to be watching the kids, but you fell asleep so deeply that I couldn't wake you up."
"That's really unacceptable," Annika said as she walked out of the room and overheard the conversation. "Maybe we should get a new team tomorrow?"
"Go check on Arya, see if she's awake," Sadie instructed.
"Arya's probably just exhausted. She's been taking care of the kids day and night," Annika explained, thinking Sadie was upset with Arya. "I'll give her a good talking to later."
"Look closely and see if there's a needle mark on her neck," Sadie whispered.
Annika was stunned. "A needle mark?"
"Go," Sadie said without further explanation.
"Yes, ma'am." Annika quickly went to check and soon returned with a report. "There is a small needle mark, and she's still unconscious. The two nurses are awake now, but they can't explain anything. They just said they were too tired and fell asleep in their chairs."
After relaying the information, Annika tentatively asked, "Ms. James, do you think someone broke in?"
"I suspect it was Riley," Sadie said, her voice filled with emotion. "She must have come to rescue Mary."
"Really?" Annika was taken aback.
"It's just a suspicion, not confirmed yet."
At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Sadie called out, "Come in!"
Aurora entered, excitedly saying, "Gabriella just checked on Andrew, and his finger moved."
Annika's eyes widened in shock, and she dashed out of the room.
Sadie followed quickly to see for herself. Gabriella was still running tests on Andrew, trying to confirm the signs.
Annika stood by, wringing her hands in anxious anticipation.
Sadie observed Andrew closely.
After a while, Gabriella removed her stethoscope and announced with joy, "He really is showing signs of waking up. Even though it was just a finger movement, it's a positive sign."
"That's wonderful!" Annika cried tears of joy.
"Thank you, Gabriella," Sadie said, equally delighted.
"I'm puzzled," Gabriella admitted. "My treatment hasn't made any breakthroughs, so there shouldn't be any progress. But today, there's this inexplicable improvement."
"Thank goodness," Annika said, not overthinking it. She was just thrilled that Andrew was waking up.
"Yes, it must be a blessing. Mary’s fever broke, and now Andrew is improving. This is great news," Jessica and Aurora chimed in, both overjoyed.
"Mary's fever breaking wasn't my doing. It must have been the medicine her mom left," Gabriella said. "By the way, Ms. James, did you ask if there's any more of that medicine?"
"No, there isn't any left," Sadie replied with a smile. "But Mary is going to be just fine."
"Should we still take Mary to the hospital in the morning?" Jessica asked.
"No need. We'll keep her at home," Sadie decided firmly. "Since her fever's down, there's no point in dragging her to the hospital, especially with all the uncertainties there."
"But we lack medical equipment here. I won't be able to continue her treatment properly," Gabriella said with concern. "What if the fever comes back tonight?"
"We'll keep an eye on her. If the fever returns, we'll take her to the hospital," Sadie reassured her. "It's getting late. You should get some rest."
"Alright, I'll take a nap. Call me if you need anything."
"Thank you!"
