Chapter 1642 Bad Idea

"So, does that mean he really is..."

Declan was getting more and more confused. "No way, even with plastic surgery, he wouldn't look this identical. He even sounds the same."

Silas shot him a glare, too lazy to continue the conversation.

Ryan pulled Silas aside to discuss something in hushed tones.

The other board members waited anxiously, some whispering among themselves.

"I can't make sense of this situation. Ms. James has already divorced Mr. Clemens, and now she's taken so many shares. Will the Clemens Group end up under the James name?"

"If not James, then Graham. The Clemens Group is in jeopardy."

"The outlook is definitely not good."

"What should we do?"

"What can we do? Our combined shares don't even make up ten percent. We have no say in this. We can only hope for the best."

"I noticed Silas and Ryan seem to be supporting Ms. James. We should trust them."

"True, they seem reliable."

"But if even Mr. Clemens is questionable, how can you be so sure about them?"

"We'll just have to take it one step at a time."

The conference room was filled with nervous chatter.

Annika hurried in, phone in hand.

"How did it go?" Sadie asked anxiously.

"We almost got him out, but now the kid's been taken again," Annika sighed. "Jesse got hurt too."

"How could this happen?" Sadie was frantic.

"This is Nicholas's last card to play. Of course, he's holding on tight. He's increased security, and we don't know where Noah is now. All our leads have gone cold. We have to start over."

Annika's expression was grave.

"Make sure the injured are taken care of first," Sadie said calmly.

"I've already told them," Annika nodded. "Jesse's mainly exhausted. He's been on this for over ten days without much rest. But Rylan said his injuries aren't serious."

"Good." Sadie's heart sank, but she forced herself to stay strong. "Tell them to protect themselves first, then do everything they can to find Noah."

"Yes!"

Sadie looked out at the drizzling rain, feeling a heavy weight on her heart.

Even though she had won a significant business battle, Noah was still in Nicholas's hands, making her vulnerable.

Even if she got the shares today, she might have to give them up tomorrow.

No, she couldn't just sit and wait.

As she was thinking, the conference room suddenly fell silent. Someone shouted, "Mr. Clemens is here!"

Sadie turned to see Alan swaggering in with his secretary and a few subordinates. His demeanor was much more arrogant than before.

"So, have you made up your mind?" Ryan asked.

"Yes," Alan replied decisively. "Give her twenty percent of the Clemens Group shares."

Ryan smiled slightly. "Smart move."

Ryan didn't spell it out, but everyone knew that while the VIC Group's shares might not be worth much now, they were crucial to the Clemens Group's operations.

In this tech-driven era, VIC Group's products were at the forefront globally. Controlling VIC Group and then selling it off could yield ten times its current value.

"Let's do it then. Get the paperwork ready," Silas announced.

"Yes." The legal and accounting teams got to work immediately.

Alan sat back, sipping his coffee, his earlier tension completely gone, replaced by a confident air of victory.

Sadie knew Nicholas must have come up with another devious plan.

Noah was likely not his only card to play.
