Chapter 1604 Riley Rescues the Girl 2
Donna quickly walked over to open the door, and the female bodyguard was taken aback. "Donna, what are you doing here?"
"I couldn't sleep, so I'm staying with Mary," Donna said, her small face looking sad. "Arya is helping Mary clean up. Mary was feeling really bad earlier, but she just fell asleep."
The bodyguard glanced up, seeing a shadow behind the medical screen, busy at the bedside. It must be Arya taking care of Mary.
"I'm sorry, did I disturb you?" the bodyguard quickly apologized. "Donna, do you want to come upstairs and rest? Kids shouldn't stay up late."
"No, it's okay. I want to sleep here. Arya already agreed," Donna replied sweetly. "You should get some rest, too. Good night."
"Alright, good night," the bodyguard said as she stepped out.
As Donna closed the door, she waved to Annika, who was passing by. "Annika, thanks for your hard work. Get some rest."
"Why is Donna still up so late?" Annika asked, surprised.
"Donna wants to stay with Mary," the bodyguard explained.
Donna locked the door again and returned to Riley's side.
Everything Donna did was seamless and natural. Who would suspect a two-year-old of lying? And she did it so convincingly.
Riley remained calm and composed throughout, unaffected by the interruptions.
She continued treating Mary, and after another half hour, she was finally done.
Just then, footsteps approached from outside, and Sadie's voice could be heard. "I want to check on Mary."
"Ms. James, Donna said Mary is already asleep," the bodyguard outside replied. "You should get some rest. You've been exhausted for days."
"How can I sleep?" Sadie said, worried. "Tristan entrusted Emma, Mary, and Donna to me, and I failed to take care of them. They got hurt because of me. What kind of aunt am I..."
Hearing this, Riley frowned and muttered, "You really are a negligent aunt."
"Mom."
"Ms. James, don't say that," the bodyguard quickly comforted her. "You've done your best. So much has happened recently, and you're holding up a big family on your own. Noah and Nathan still haven't been rescued."
"Alright, you can go now."
Sadie didn't say more and reached for the doorknob.
Meanwhile, Riley was packing up her needles. She glanced at the door, then crouched down to whisper something in Donna's ear before slipping out the window.
Sadie pushed the door open, feeling a breeze from the window, the curtains still swaying slightly.
Alarmed, she rushed to the bedside.
Seeing Mary peacefully lying in bed, with Arya and two female nurses asleep, and Donna gently wiping Mary's hand with a damp cloth, she felt a bit relieved.
"Donna?" Sadie asked, puzzled. "Have you been here the whole time?"
"Yes, Auntie," Donna nodded calmly.
"Did anyone come in just now?" Sadie felt something was off.
"Yes, a little kitty jumped in. I chased it away," Donna lied without blinking, completely composed.
Sadie believed her. If it was just a cat, that made sense.
She didn't question further, just patted Arya's shoulder. "Arya, Arya!"
Arya remained in a deep sleep, unresponsive.
"Auntie, let Arya sleep a bit. She's been here all day and night, she's really tired," Donna said with concern. "You should rest too. I just gave Mary some medicine Mom left. She seems a bit better now. Maybe she'll be okay by tomorrow."
