Chapter 39 Fried Chicken Burgers

Sadie held the hands of her three children as they walked down the bustling street, a warm feeling rising in her heart. To comfort them, she decided to take the kids to eat their favorite fried chicken burgers and pizza. The children's laughter echoed in the air, seemingly dispelling all her fatigue from the day.

"Mommy, fried chicken is unhealthy," Noah explained seriously, but the sparkle of anticipation in his eyes was unmistakable. He muttered, "So, we should eat just a little bit."

"Yeah, just a little! I also want pizza!" Nathan chimed in, already drooling.

"I want egg tarts!" Mia grinned. Desserts were her favorite.

"Alright, today we'll treat ourselves!" Sadie smiled, feeling a sense of relief. She knew the kids had gone through some unpleasant experiences, and making them happy was her greatest wish.

In the restaurant, Sadie watched her three children devour their food, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She softly said to Noah and Nathan, "You both did great today, protecting Mia and staying calm. I'm proud of you!"

"Mommy, Mia is our sister. We must protect her!" Noah patted his chest, showing a burgeoning sense of responsibility.

"I really wanted to punch Billy. He always bullies Mia and never listens," Nathan said, clenching his small fists in anger. "If Noah hadn't held me back today, I would have hit him."

Seeing Sadie's confusion, Noah explained Billy's bad behavior at school. "He's a bully at school. Mr. Bailey and the teachers always protect him, and the other students are afraid of him. He thinks he can do no wrong."

"So, we need to protect ourselves, not bully others, and not let others bully us. Understand?" Sadie advised earnestly.

"Got it, Mommy." Noah and Nathan nodded in unison. They exchanged a proud smile. Mia, on the other hand, looked down in embarrassment, her ears turning red.

"Mia, you were very brave today. Keep being brave, okay?" Sadie encouraged her, her gaze gentle, trying to make Mia feel her support.

"Yeah, I'll try my best!" Mia lifted her head, her eyes shining with determination as if making a promise to Sadie. "I'll be tougher and won't let anyone put paint in my hair again!"

"It's not just about the paint, baby," Sadie said, chuckling. "Anything that's bullying is not okay."

"Yeah, I got it," Mia nodded seriously.

"Good girl, Mia!" Sadie patted Mia's hair.

After dinner, Sadie took the kids home, feeling the fatigue creeping in. She got the three children cleaned up and into bed. After all the chores, her back was almost breaking. She sat on the couch, looking a bit tired.

Brenda walked in, and concern was etched on her face. "Did Mr. Potter tell you why he married Leah?" she asked, sitting beside Sadie.

"No, he didn't," Sadie shook her head.

"If he doesn't tell you, you should ask! You young people need to communicate to avoid misunderstandings!" Brenda said anxiously. "Look at those TV shows; the main characters always have conflicts because they keep everything bottled up and don't talk."

Sadie laughed at Brenda's comment. "You still like watching those shows?"

Brenda blushed. She muttered, "Everyone has their hobbies."

Then, she continued the topic. "Don't switch the topic. I'm talking about your situation. I always felt Leah was not kind. No, she's showing her true colors now. I always thought she was fake."

"It's in the past," Sadie smiled bitterly. "No matter what, they are a family now. If I interfere, I'd be a shameless homewrecker!"

Brenda's face darkened. She sat beside Sadie and said softly, "I heard about what happened today. It's a shame. You and Ronan could have had a better relationship, but now…"

"Brenda, I want to look forward," Sadie interrupted, her eyes shining with determination. "The past is the past. I can't dwell on memories anymore."

Brenda was silent for a moment, then nodded. "You're right. The future is what matters. You have three lovely children now; they are God's gift to you. As long as you're happy, nothing else matters."
