Chapter 35 They Owe Her
Billy shouted, "Mia is my good friend! I won't let her go! Mom, if you make her leave, I won't recognize you as my mom anymore! And I won't go to school ever again!"
"You..." Leah was so angry she couldn't form coherent words. Unable to vent her fury on her son, she directed her venom at Sadie instead. "Mia is truly the child of a slut. She's only in kindergarten and already knows how to seduce people!"
"Leah!" Sadie erupted, wanting to put down Mia to confront Leah, but Mia clung tightly to her neck, her little body trembling. She might not have understood Leah's words, but she knew they were hurtful. Unable to hold back her emotions any longer, Mia burst into tears.
Seeing Mia cry, Billy got anxious and shoved Leah angrily. "You made Mia cry! I don't want you as my mom anymore!" After shouting this, he bolted out of the room.
"Billy!" Leah screamed, and the bodyguards rushed to chase after him.
Todd and Sarah exchanged awkward glances, feeling uncomfortable in the heated atmosphere. Sarah attempted to ease the tension, softly suggesting, "Ms. Roth, let's take our time with the children's issues. There's no need to get so worked up."
Todd, clearly nervous, addressed Sadie cautiously, "Ms. Roth, why don't you take the children home to rest first? I'll discuss this with the Potter family and then call you, okay?"
"Of course, but..." Sadie's gaze was like a laser beam, piercing directly into Todd. Her tone left no room for negotiation. "I demand to see the surveillance footage and preserve the evidence. My children did nothing wrong, so why should they endure such humiliation and slander? This is not just about them anymore; it's about me pursuing justice. If you refuse to hand over the footage, I'll call the police and let them retrieve it," she declared sternly.
Todd looked troubled and tried to soothe her. "Ms. Roth, you need to calm down. Blowing this up won't benefit anyone. The Potter family holds a significant position in Newark; it's best not to provoke them. Mr. Potter can ruin you with a single word, making it impossible for you to find work or for your children to attend school. What will you do then?"
"Who cares!" Sadie stood her ground, her voice unwavering. "If the school and the Potter family refuse to apologize, I'll call the police and let them handle it! Do you really think the Potter family can control everything? Let me tell you, others might fear the Potters, but I don't!" she snapped.
If it were Micah, Sadie might still be somewhat apprehensive. But Ronan and Leah? She had no intention of backing down! They owed her for what had happened four years ago!
"You..." Todd turned pale. He had thought everyone would bow to the Potter family's power as he did, swallowing their anger. He had never expected Sadie to be so stubborn, so unyielding.
Trying to stabilize the situation, his tone softened. "Ms. Roth, think about it. Doing this will only make things more complicated. We can resolve this privately; there's no need to make it public."
"Privately?" Sadie sneered, her eyes blazing. "Your private resolution will only make my daughter suffer more! I don't want to hear any more excuses!"
As the argument escalated, Todd's patience wore thin. Growing anxious, he suddenly reached out to grab Sadie's phone, trying to stop her from calling the police.
"What are you doing?" Sadie exclaimed, quickly stepping back. She watched him warily, a wave of unease washing over her.
At that moment, a clear and firm voice broke the stalemate. "Stop!"
