Chapter 40 Unemployed Life
"So," Brenda said.
"What?" Sadie looked at her, confused.
"If you can meet a good man in the future, your life will be complete," Brenda said with a wink and a smile.
Sadie couldn't help but sigh. People always said that only the unmarried and childless were pressured to marry, but she already had three kids and still got pressured. What good man would marry a woman like her with three kids? Even if there was one, Sadie didn't want to get married. She enjoyed her freedom too much to tie herself down with a husband.
Just as Sadie was about to organize her thoughts to rebut Brenda, she received a text message on her phone. It was $2,000 transferred from Micah. Sadie's expression immediately changed. She smiled and greeted Brenda before slipping back to her room to message Micah.
Seeing Sadie's happy face, Brenda couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for her. But then she wondered if she had someone in mind. Sadie didn't care what Brenda was thinking. She was overjoyed. "Got money!"
Sadie called him right away to commend Micah's proactive attitude at work. She praised, "Not bad. Keep it up. It's been several days, and you've only transferred money twice. This amount isn't even enough to buy..." 'Formula' almost slipped out, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hand.
On the other end of the line, Micah just responded with a grunt. Sadie quickly corrected herself, "Not enough to buy food."
Micah chuckled and urged Sadie to work hard as well. When it came to work, Sadie's face darkened. She whined, "Don't even mention it. I cursed out that perverted boss today. I quit."
Micah was silent for a while. Sadie didn't mind and continued to complain about her perverted boss. "He deliberately made things difficult for me. I don't even know what I did to offend him. You know what? He..." Sadie vented all the unfair treatment she had suffered today, completely using Micah as an emotional trash can.
After she finished, she felt much better, and her cold seemed to have improved a bit too.
"So you're going to rely on me to support you from now on?" Micah asked.
"Of course... not! You earn so little. How could it be enough for me? Don't worry. I'll go out and look for a job tomorrow," Sadie rolled her eyes and replied.
"Finding a job isn't easy these days," Micah said meaningfully.
"I still have to try. I can't go back to VIC Group, can I?" Sadie muttered. She remembered that she had sent out over thirty resumes and interviewed with seventeen companies, and only VIC Group had taken her in, thanks to Samuel.
Micah suggested, "Did you submit a resignation letter? If not, maybe HR hasn't filed it yet. You could try going back; maybe the boss still wants you."
"No way! I cursed out the boss! He's probably cursing me in his heart right now! He's definitely not as kind as you!" Sadie replied.
Sadie regretted it. Being a security guard was great—a high salary, and she could secretly play on her phone. Why did she quit in a fit of anger today? It's all Ronan's fault!
Sadie thought, 'The boss doesn't seem so bad after all. At least VIC Group's benefits are top-notch in the industry. But I have already said I won't go back. I believe that in a big city like Newark, there must be a place for me!'
Three days later, Sadie was disappointed. In the vast city of Newark, there really wasn't a place for her! Not only did no company call her for an interview, but even malls and shops didn't want her, and even restaurants didn't want her as a waitress. It was as if they had all agreed on it.
