Chapter 33 Tit for Tat
After four years, Sadie finally pieced together the whole story. She had no one to blame but herself for falling into Leah's cunning trap. Keeping her composure, she responded, "Then I wish you all the best."
Leah, undeterred, stood in the middle of the principal's office, her fury palpable. "Don't think a polite farewell will let your kids off the hook. They hit Billy and smashed my car window. Someone's paying for the damages!" she declared, her voice sharp.
Sadie took a deep breath, determined to stay calm. "I hope to understand the truth of the matter first."
"The truth?" Leah scoffed, eyes filled with disdain. "Do you think I would believe your kids? They're not even worthy of being compared to Billy!"
Sensing the tension, Sarah quickly interjected. "Mrs. Potter, the matter hasn't been fully investigated yet. We should hear what the children have to say."
"Listen to what they have to say?" Leah's voice grew louder. She warned, "I've already called my husband. He'll be here soon. If you don't want this kindergarten shut down, you better handle this properly!"
Todd looked troubled and clearly anxious. He knew Leah's status and background all too well. "Ms. Roth," he began sternly, "your kids have gone too far. Please apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Potter immediately and arrange for compensation."
"Mr. Bailey, it's not appropriate to draw such conclusions before the matter is investigated," Sadie responded firmly, her gaze unwavering.
"You..." Todd stammered, embarrassed by Sadie's rebuttal.
"I think we need to understand the situation first." Sadie walked over to Noah and Nathan, crouching down to their level. "Noah, Nathan, what exactly happened?"
Noah pointed at Billy, his small hand trembling with anger. "He smeared paint in Mia's hair and made her cry. I warned him to stop, but he cursed me," he said.
"Nonsense! Billy would never do such a thing!" Leah snapped, her anger intensifying.
"Please let the kids finish," Sadie insisted firmly, her gaze locked on Leah.
Nathan clenched his fists, his face reddening with frustration. He interjected, "I told him to apologize to Noah and Mia. Instead, he threw a crystal ball from the teacher's desk at me. I dodged it, but it flew out the classroom window and hit the car downstairs."
Sadie's heart ached for her sons. She hugged them tightly, asking, "So, you didn't hit anyone, and Billy's actions broke the car window, right?"
Noah and Nathan nodded emphatically, confidence shining in their eyes.
"Some classmates saw it and can testify," Noah added, his clarity and maturity evident. "We told the teacher everything."
Nathan looked at Sarah with teary eyes, murmuring to Sadie, "But no one believed us."
Sadie turned to Sarah, silently pleading for her support. Sarah looked guilt-ridden but was silenced by Todd's sharp gaze.
Leah's face darkened even further. She sneered, "You two brats! Always causing trouble for Billy. Why would I believe your lies?"
Sadie, her anger boiling over, took a step forward. "If you ever talk about my children like that again, believe me, I'll tear your mouth apart!"
Sadie's eyes locked onto Billy, her voice firm and challenging. "Look at him! Not a hair out of place, clothes perfectly neat. Does this look like a boy who's been in a fight?" she questioned.
