Chapter 1651 Fake
"You're nuts!"
Alan had just walked into The Graham Villa when he saw the text message. He rolled his eyes at Sadie's attempt to stir up trouble and promptly deleted it.
"Mr. Clemens, you're here!"
Nicholas now called Alan "Mr." even in his own home, a lie told so often that he believed it himself.
"Mr. Graham, sorry to keep you waiting."
Alan strode in, his demeanor shifting from his previous attitude with Arya to one of respect. "I've been swamped with trivial matters these past few days and haven't had the chance to visit properly. Tonight, let's drink until we drop."
"Great, I'll open a few good bottles for you!" Nicholas was delighted. "Go, call Olivia out."
"Yes, sir!" The servant immediately went to fetch Olivia.
"Um, she..."
Alan was still a bit worried. Olivia had reacted strongly when she found out he was an imposter that morning.
"Don't worry, I've convinced her." Nicholas raised an eyebrow smugly. "Both my daughters are very obedient."
"That's good, that's good..."
Alan's words were cut off by a sneeze. He didn't think much of it, rubbed his nose, and continued drinking and chatting.
But soon, he started feeling the symptoms of a cold—discomfort and a rising temperature.
"Are you coming down with something?" Nicholas asked with concern.
"Seems like it."
Alan suddenly remembered Sadie's words, feeling a pang of unease. But he reassured himself that everything had been checked thoroughly and there was no need to be paranoid.
"Olivia, are you here?" Nicholas called out, inviting Olivia to sit next to Alan.
Alan looked at Olivia with a gaze filled with desire.
Olivia felt a wave of nausea at his look but controlled her emotions and prepared to sit down.
Just then, Alan sneezed again.
Olivia frowned in disgust and moved a bit further away.
"If you're sick, you should see a doctor," Nicholas said with concern. "You shouldn't let it drag on."
"Right," Alan replied nonchalantly.
"Didn't you go to the clinic today? Why didn't you get checked out?" Olivia suddenly asked.
Nicholas frowned and glared at her coldly.
Alan was taken aback. "How did you know I went to the clinic?"
"Didn't you suspect my father of poisoning you?" Olivia sneered. "Now you see it was just your paranoia, right?"
"Olivia, shut up," Nicholas snapped.
Olivia said nothing more, picked up her glass, and drank silently.
"Did you have someone follow me?" Alan glared at Nicholas angrily.
"I was just ensuring your safety," Nicholas said righteously. "After all, both the James Family and the Clemens Family are watching you. If anything were to happen to you..."
Before Nicholas could finish, Alan stood up and stormed out.
Nicholas didn't try to stop him, but he glared at Olivia. "What are you trying to do?"
"I didn't do anything," Olivia said, taking a sip of her drink. "I just hate that he suspects you, so I said something."
"Don't you realize that will make him even more suspicious?" Nicholas roared. "He might even think today's test results were faked."
"Can someone so paranoid really be of use to you?" Olivia retorted.
"Shut up," Nicholas shouted. "I know you look down on him, but this marriage will happen whether you like it or not!"
With that, Nicholas got up and left.
In the car, Alan's cold symptoms worsened. He kept sneezing and sniffling. His subordinate asked, "Should we go to the hospital?"
"It's just a little cold."
Alan blurted out, but then he remembered Sadie's words and felt uneasy. "No, wait. If Nicholas had me followed, today's test results could be fake too."
