Chapter 1548 Victory or Defeat Hinges on This Moment 1
"Mr. Clemens was the one who handled the verification back then. I wasn't involved," Silas said seriously, his eyes downcast. "And only Noah was tested at that time. Nathan and Mia weren't."
"Exactly, there must have been a mistake somewhere," Declan jumped in quickly. "Maybe the previous results were faked."
"Shut up!" Sadie snapped.
Declan was startled and hadn't even reacted when Silas also scolded him, "This isn't your place to speak."
"Silas..."
"Enough," Ryan interjected as he walked over. "We'll do as Silas suggested. Everyone, please rest here for a bit. Once we have the results, we'll discuss our next steps together."
"Sure, no problem."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"What about the kids?" Sadie asked urgently. "Did you bring them?"
"Don't worry," Silas replied softly. "I told them they're just here for a check-up. They don't know what's going on. They're in the game room on the 17th floor. Ryan and I will personally take the doctor down to draw their blood, then come back up to draw Mr. Clemens' blood."
Sadie closed her eyes, realizing she was in too deep to back out now.
Just then, a secretary came in to report that the team from Evergreen Heights Medical Center had arrived.
"Sadie, you and Mr. Clemens should rest in the CEO's office," Ryan instructed the bodyguards. "You all, take good care of Mr. and Mrs. Clemens."
"Yes, sir."
Although Ryan and Silas still trusted Sadie, they were handling things by the book.
To be safe, they had also arranged for a group of bodyguards to protect "Micah."
Sadie had lost control of the situation.
"Micah," though uneasy, felt somewhat reassured knowing he had backup.
Still, he was glaring at Sadie, fuming from the slap he had just received.
"Ms. James," Arya whispered, handing Sadie a glass of water. "What should we do now? Should we expose the imposter?"
"Shut up," Sadie hissed.
Arya quickly fell silent, not daring to speak further.
Sadie took a sip of water and picked up her phone to call Annika.
If Annika could find Riley and the real "Micah" in time, all their problems would be solved.
"Ms. James!"
Annika's voice came through the phone.
"What's the situation?"
Sadie made the call in front of "Micah," not bothering to hide it.
Though he couldn't hear the conversation, seeing Sadie's demeanor made him nervous, suspecting she had a plan.
"They've left. I just found the restaurant owner and some of his staff. We're questioning them now," Annika reported quietly.
"From their information, it seems likely that the supply clerk was Riley. She applied for a job at the restaurant the day after the fire, carrying a large black bag. In hindsight, the bag might have contained Mr. Clemens."
"Find them immediately," Sadie urged, her anxiety palpable. "The situation is critical. This is our last chance!"
"What's going on?" Annika guessed something was wrong.
"Don't worry about it. Just find them," Sadie pressed.
"Understood," Annika replied, nodding. "I've already contacted Jesse for help."
"Good, use every resource. We must find them."
"Yes, Ms. James."
After hanging up, Sadie looked up at "Micah," who now appeared visibly anxious.
From Sadie's brief conversation, he could guess they might have found Micah's whereabouts.
Could it be that Micah wasn't dead after all?
"Micah" quickly excused himself to the restroom and discreetly sent a message to his handler.
"Ms. James, should we..." Arya began to ask.
"Let him go," Sadie said, narrowing her eyes and watching the restroom door with a cold gaze.
