Chapter 21 It's Cold
Micah stood by the pool, his cold gaze piercing straight at Sadie like a sharp blade. He slowly removed the ring from his finger, and the slight tremble in his hand was barely noticeable.
The ring sparkled blindingly in the sunlight, mocking her apparent incompetence. Without hesitation, he tossed it into the pool, causing ripples across the clear water.
"Fetch it," he commanded, his voice low and devoid of warmth.
"Mr. Clemens, did I do something wrong?" Sadie asked, her voice trembling with anxiety. "If I've done something wrong, I apologize."
"Fetch it or not?" Micah's words were concise and merciless.
Sadie's heart tightened. She knew this was a deliberate act of revenge, but she had no choice. Micah was the president. Taking a deep breath, she jumped into the icy water. The coldness enveloped her immediately, making her shiver, but she gritted her teeth and began searching for the ring.
"Hurry up, don't make me wait too long," Micah's voice came from the poolside, carrying an undeniable command.
Sadie floundered in the water, her fingers groping the bottom. Finally, her hand brushed against the ring. She grasped it tightly, a surge of relief washing over her. Kicking toward the surface, she gasped for air as the cold almost stole her breath.
"Got it," she panted, holding up the ring, her smile sparkling as much as the water droplets in the sunlight.
Micah's expression softened for a moment before a cold smile curved his lips. "Not bad. Give it to me."
Sadie reluctantly climbed out of the pool, her whole body soaked and shivering in the cold wind. She sneezed as she handed the ring over with both hands.
Micah's gaze intensified. Even without makeup, Sadie's natural beauty and noble temperament were undeniable. Her white shirt and black pencil skirt clung to her wet body, highlighting her sexy, perfect curves under the sunlight.
Sadie didn't notice Micah's change in expression; she only felt the numbing cold seeping into her bones, silently praying she wouldn't fall ill. Despite her grievances, she knew she couldn't show any dissatisfaction.
Micah took the ring and walked away gracefully, leaving behind a court order, "Change the water and clean up before you leave!"
Was he deliberately torturing her? Sadie really wanted to complain, but Micah was the highest authority. No one could control him. She thought, 'How do I get so unlucky to offend Micah? Worse, I don't even know how I have offended him. If I did, how am I gonna fix it?'
"I'll change the water," she said softly, her voice trembling. The cold wind made her shiver even more.
Micah looked at her indifferently, then turned to leave. Sadie walked to the pool's water valve and began changing the water, the sound of flowing water filling the air while her heart was brimming with helplessness and anger.
After another round of arduous work, Sadie finally finished. Her body felt like it wasn't her own anymore. She noticed a bathrobe on a lounge chair and quickly put it on. Although it was large, it provided some warmth.
In the elevator, still dripping wet and sneezing constantly, all she wanted was to reach the changing room to dry her clothes. Unexpectedly, she bumped into Samuel at the elevator entrance. He stood there holding a document, his business elite appearance betrayed by the disgusting, uncomfortable glint in his eyes.
Samuel's gaze locked onto Sadie. Wrapped tightly in the bathrobe, her long, damp hair draped over her shoulders, she emitted a faint fragrance despite her disheveled state.
'Sadie is really a beauty,' Samuel thought, his eyes flashing with greed. He couldn't help but follow her, trailing behind her into the elevator.
