Chapter 37 Just an Ordinary Person

Todd recognized the situation and bent over, repeatedly bowing to Sadie and the three children, his voice trembling. "Ms. Roth, I'm really sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have offended you."

Sadie gave a cold smile, knowing that someone like Todd would never truly reflect on his actions. He only showed humility in the face of power, but behind their backs, people like him continued to bully the weak. She had no interest in hearing his excuses.

"Get out," Ronan said in a low voice.

"Please, Mr. Potter, forgive me," Todd said weakly before leaving with his head down.

Seeing Todd's miserable state, Sarah knew she couldn't escape punishment either. She stammered, trying to explain to Ronan, but didn't know what to start.

"Sarah, you're suspended for a month. You'll undergo retraining and can return to work once you have the proper qualifications," Ronan said.

"Thank you, thank you," Sarah quickly expressed her gratitude, knowing her punishment was lenient. She then bowed to the three children, "Noah, Nathan, Mia, I'm sorry I didn't protect you," she apologized.

The three children, young and empathetic, felt a pang of sadness seeing Sarah in such a flustered state.

"Thank you too, Ms. Roth," Sarah said with a slight smile, her eyes showing gratitude but also a hint of helplessness.

"Ms. Bell, things will get better," Sadie said, offering Sarah some comfort. She knew Sarah had done her best in an impossible situation.

With everyone gone, only Sadie and Ronan remained in the office. Brenda started to lead the three children away, but they hesitated, eyeing the unfamiliar Ronan warily.

"Mommy?" Noah called out.

"Go with Brenda to the classroom to get your backpacks," Sadie said, hugging each of them. "After you get your backpacks, wait for me at the school gate. I'll be right there."

"Okay." the children nodded.

As the crowd dispersed, a tense atmosphere filled the air. Sadie turned around to see Ronan staring at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

"Who is the father of the children?" Ronan asked suddenly, his tone soft yet probing.

Sadie's heart tightened. Why was he asking this now? What was the point? She quickly masked her panic.

Ronan noticed her concern and continued, "Don't overthink it. It's been so many years. Besides, I was the one who wronged you first. I have no right to ask anything. I just... I just want to know."

Sadie replied calmly, "The children's father is just an ordinary person. We separated a long time ago."

"An ordinary person?" Ronan frowned slightly.

Sadie felt his gaze, sharp and scrutinizing. She knew Ronan's intuition was always keen, and any concealment would only arouse his suspicion. But she didn't want to reveal the painful truth that she had children with a male escort.

She thought, 'We have no future together anyway, so why not leave a good impression?'

"I have nothing to hide," Sadie said, trying to stay calm. She turned slightly to avoid his gaze and fabricated a lie. "I lived in the countryside for a while. You know...when you're desperate and broken, you always long for someone to protect you."

"Alright," Ronan said, his eyes dimming as if he didn't want to hear any more details. "So, are you taking care of the children alone now?"

"No, I have Brenda," Sadie said, looking up at him with a sneer. "I should congratulate you, though. Less than a month after I left, you married Leah, and now you have a son with her!"

Ronan lowered his head, unable to meet her eyes. He didn't know how to explain this matter, nor could he.
