Chapter 1631 Hatred to the Bone
"What's wrong with her?" Sadie asked, her voice full of worry. "I'm her friend too, and I really want to know what's going on. What happened to her?"
"She..." Gabriella hesitated, then said, "It's a private matter, and I can't share it."
"But..."
"Is that Sadie?"
A weak voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Yes, Ms. Graham," Gabriella replied.
"Give me the phone," Olivia requested.
Gabriella handed her the phone, and Sadie heard the sound of a door closing.
"Ms. Graham?" Sadie felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach.
"Sadie," Olivia's voice was weak but filled with resentment. "I don't think I've ever wronged you. I even helped you. Why would you do this to me?"
Sadie was stunned and quickly said, "Ms. Graham, there must be some kind of misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?" Olivia's voice grew more agitated. "Can you honestly say you weren't at the Cloud Hotel last night? That you weren't in that bastard's room?"
"I..." Sadie struggled to find the words.
"You knew he was a fraud, so why didn't you tell me?" Olivia's anger was palpable. "Why didn't you stop him when he was about to hurt me? Why did you just stand by and watch me get deceived and humiliated? Why?"
Olivia started crying, breaking down completely, repeatedly asking, "Why, why?"
Hearing her cries, Sadie felt nothing but pity and guilt. She waited for Olivia to calm down a bit before explaining.
"Ms. Graham, I was in the bathroom at the time. I heard you and that man, and I wanted to come out and stop it, but as soon as I stepped out, someone covered my mouth and nose with a drugged cloth, and I passed out. Then..."
"Stop making excuses," Olivia interrupted, her voice filled with hatred. "If you were really drugged, there's no way you could have left the hotel unscathed."
"Since you managed to get away, you had the chance to save me, but you didn't. You watched as that bastard violated me. Were you happy? Were you secretly laughing, relieved that you finally got rid of me as a rival, and that no one would compete with you for Micah anymore?"
"I didn't..."
"Sadie!" Olivia didn't give Sadie a chance to explain. "Sadie, I'll remember this."
"Olivia."
Sadie wanted to say more, but Olivia hung up the phone.
She sighed helplessly, holding her phone with a heavy heart.
Annika, indignant, said, "Why is she blaming you? What does this have to do with you? It's clearly her father who hurt her, and that Alan guy. She should take it out on them."
"Maybe shifting the hatred to an enemy makes it easier to bear," Sadie replied with a bitter smile.
"Ms. James, why did you even make that call?" Annika didn't understand. "You didn't have to deal with her. This isn't your problem."
"I called to find out how she was doing," Sadie said, frowning. "Now that Nicholas is about to join the Clemens Group board, the next step will be announcing the marriage between the two families."
"But seeing Olivia's current state, she must have found out about Alan's true identity. She even tried to kill herself. Although she survived, she probably won't give up her dignity to marry him."
"Does that mean the Graham family's plan is on hold?" Annika asked urgently.
"Not necessarily," Sadie shook her head. "Nicholas is the kind of person who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals."
"He might force her, or he might even have his eldest daughter marry Alan. One way or another, he won't let this golden opportunity slip away."
