Chapter 29 Breakfast
Ronan was the kindest person Sadie had ever known; just a glance from him could warm her heart. That was how Sadie always felt about him. They once had a romantic and blissful time together, days filled with genuine happiness.
Sadie had given him all her youthful love, and Ronan had promised he would marry no one but her, protecting her at all costs and offering a warmth she had never known before. But now, things had changed.
Hidden behind a pillar, Sadie secretly observed Ronan, too afraid to show herself. She feared Ronan would see her current disheveled and miserable state.
As he moved toward the elevator, Ronan seemed to sense something, glancing back slightly. Sadie's heart tightened, and she hurriedly lowered her head.
"Was it just an illusion?" Ronan muttered, frowning as he scanned the surroundings, searching for the source of the gaze.
Sadie felt like a deer caught in headlights, her heart racing wildly. She quickly retreated, her movements frantic as she tried to avoid his sight. She silently willed herself to move faster, desperate to escape before he noticed.
Ronan's gaze continued to wander, a faint sense of loss washing over him. He didn't know why, but it felt as if he had lost something important. Just as he was about to turn back, he caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye, but it had already disappeared around the corner.
'Am I overthinking?' Ronan sighed inwardly, feeling a pang of disappointment. He walked into the building and headed to the CEO's office on the 66th floor.
Sadie breathed a sigh of relief but also felt a bit lost. It seemed he had forgotten her.
David, having parked Ronan's car, turned around to find Sadie missing. Searching for a while, he found her hiding behind a wall.
David immediately understood. 'She must be nervous about meeting a big shot for the first time,' he thought. "No need to be nervous," he said, gently pulling her from her hiding spot. "Those big shots are just like us. Two eyes and one mouth. Nothing to be afraid of. You'll get used to it. Come on, let's go patrol over there."
Sadie felt grateful; her colleagues in the security department were indeed quite nice. David guided her through the patrol route, explaining the job's finer points. As they chatted, a sleek Rolls-Royce Wraith drove up. Sadie's heart skipped a beat. 'Could I be this unlucky?' she thought.
"It's Mr. Clemens' car! Come on, let's go greet him!" David called to Sadie. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she knew she had to confront Micah and find out what she had done to offend him so grievously.
David eagerly opened the car door and held the window to prevent Micah from hitting his head. Dressed in a sharp black suit, Micah slowly stepped out. David subtly adjusted his uniform and saluted. "Good morning, Mr. Clemens!"
Sadie suppressed a snort. She thought, 'Morning? It's eleven o'clock. Why don't you just sleep at home?' But she kept her face neutral, showing no sign of her inner thoughts. "It seems being a security guard doesn't suit you," Micah said coldly, catching the flicker of resentment in Sadie's eyes. "Maybe a cleaner would be more appropriate?"
Sadie was taken aback but quickly stood at attention and saluted. "Good morning, Mr. Clemens. It's hard work for you to come to the company personally. Have you had breakfast, Mr. Clemens? Would you like me to get it for you?"
"Very good, you are quite perceptive." Micah's lips curled into a playful smile. "Andrew, make the arrangements."
"Yes, sir." Andrew listed off a menu. "Chicken Alfredo, Tiramisu, hand-ground coffee... Let's keep it simple today."
Sadie's smile turned stiff. 'Go ahead and stuff yourself to death,' she thought.
"What? Do you have any objections?" Micah asked coldly.
"I'll get it right away," Sadie said, saluting again as she watched him leave.
Lagging behind slightly, Andrew gave Sadie a sympathetic glance and cautioned, "Deliver it to the 66th-floor conference room within half an hour, or you'll be transferred to the cleaning department tomorrow."
'This is bullying, blatant bullying! 'Sadie screamed inwardly.
