Chapter 1600 Donna's Skills
"I've already called every hospital around here," Annika said, her voice tight with worry. "None of them will take her. I'm trying to reach out to hospitals overseas now."
"That's not gonna work," Gabriella replied, shaking her head. "If it were an option, I'd have already arranged for her to be at my hospital. But Mary's got a fever now; traveling that far would be too risky."
"So what do we do?" Annika's anxiety was palpable.
"Can we get the equipment and meds sent here? Treat her at home? You're a pro, Gabriella," Arya suggested.
"I'm good, but I can't do everything. Some things need specialists," Gabriella said, sounding defeated. "You guys need to figure something out fast."
With that, Gabriella left.
Sadie looked at Mary's flushed face, her heart aching.
Gabriella was right; it was too late to go abroad, and no local hospitals would take her. They had to find a solution nearby.
Sadie decided to call Silas, hoping he could pull some strings at Evergreen Heights Medical Center.
After all, Raymond founded it, and even Nicholas would struggle to interfere.
Plus, Mary was Tristan's kid; Nicholas would have to tread carefully.
Sadie tried calling for ages but couldn't get through.
She remembered Ryan mentioning that Silas might be under surveillance, making it impossible to reach him by phone.
Desperate, Sadie grabbed Annika, and they drove to the garden villa to find Silas.
It was their only shot now.
Arya stayed with Mary, her worry growing by the minute.
Just then, Mia came in with Emma and Donna to see Mary.
Emma, seeing Mary, started crying and trembling. "Mary, don't scare me. Please get better soon. I promise I won't fight with you over the bottle anymore."
"Mary, get better soon. I'll take you horseback riding," Mia said, tears streaming down her face. "We can go pick grapes too. They're almost ripe on the hill."
"Mary."
Mia and Emma cried as they spoke to the unconscious Mary, while Donna stood silently by, tears in her eyes.
After a while, Donna quietly left the room and quickly ran upstairs.
"Donna, don't run off!"
Aurora called out, but Donna didn't respond.
Aurora didn't think much of it, assuming Donna was upset and had gone to her room to cry.
But Donna didn't go to her room. She ran up to the attic, making sure no one was around.
She climbed up to the loft, opened the window, and whistled softly.
The sound was small but melodious.
Soon, the trees outside the villa began to rustle, and birds hidden within them flew over, landing on the attic window ledge.
Donna spoke to them in a strange language, and soon the birds flew off again, not stopping at the treetops but heading deeper into the forest.
In the yard, a few female bodyguards watched the birds flying back and forth, puzzled.
"What's up with that? Why did all those birds fly to the attic window and then leave together?"
"Maybe it's gonna rain? I heard birds do that before it rains."
"The weather doesn't look like it, though."
"Who cares? With everything going on in the house, who has time to worry about that?"
"True. I hope Ms. James can find a hospital for Mary, or we're in trouble."
"Yeah."
As the two chatted, the birds had already dispersed into the depths of the forest, seemingly searching for something.
Donna furrowed her little brows and muttered to herself, "I hope these birds can find Mommy. Mommy, please come quickly. Mary needs you, and we need you too."
