CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THREE
“How do you expect us to have a conversation when we're tied up like common thieves?” I shouted at the voice, more angry than scared.
After kidnapping and tying us up, the least he could do was talk to us properly without that crippling condescension.
“Katie, please untie this one,” the voice said to someone nearby and no matter how much I turned my head, I couldn't see anyone.
I heard movements and the girls irritated hiss before she appeared in my line of sight.
She was slim with a buzz cut and three stars tattooed on her neck. She was the definition of badass as she flipped me over and I heard the unmistakable sound of a knife going through the rope tying my body.
Finally free, I took in my surroundings and I realized we were deeper in the forest than I'd driven us into.
“Who are you people?” I wondered out loud as I looked around.
In the dense forest, there were three vans in a clearing far from us and ours made it four. It didn't make sense that there were only three vehicles for the large number of people that had surrounded our van earlier the day before. Or I hope it was as I had no idea how long we'd been out of it.
“We can't tell you that so you don't run to your lover and rattle on us. The real question your highness is,” Katie sat down next to me as she spoke, “what is the queen of the world doing in a place like this?” She finished, bringing her small but obviously sharp knife to my face.
I quickly moved away, scared of getting nicked with that thing.
“Look, we're just trying to get somewhere safe, okay? We won't bother you and I'm really hoping I don't see that bastard again,” I bit out angrily, “but even if he succeeds in getting us back, you won't be mentioned, whatever you are. Now please untie my sister, we can't exactly run anywhere in this condition,”
Katie stood up and went to the guy who was wearing cargo shorts and a fit tank top this time around, his chest filling in the clothing perfectly; I could see the indent of his abs on it. It was obvious he was strong and worked out a lot but he was smaller than Xavier and just the perfect shade of Roe’s skin
‘Why the fuck am I comparing the both of them? Ugh’ I thought, hating myself for how much conflict there was in my life. While awake, I'm hating the man while comparing him to every conventionally attractive man I meet and while asleep, I'm getting my pussy pounded by him. I shook my head free of the annoying thoughts and shook my body off the ropes and stood up.
They were still whispering to each other and I walked over to where Anna had been tied up and rolled her over.
“I didn't say you could untie her,” the guy said, his voice in that ever consistent tone. It was like he could never get angry but you don't want to try him.
“And I said there's no need tying up my sister like roadkill! We're not a threat and you know that!” I snapped in irritation, staring him in the eyes.
We stood that way for a few seconds before he smiled at me, unnerving me completely.
I guess my Roman empire with men was dimples. I see it and I'm a melting puddle.
I shook my head of the strange thoughts and began untying my sister.
“Sorry. Are you hurt?”
“The ropes dug in deep,” she said as I took off the ropes and I felt really bad for throwing us into this crazy situation.
“I'm sorry,” I whispered.
“Don't be. It's his fault for pushing us to the wall. Were we supposed to just agree to be taken to another planet? I mean, what rights would we have there? What if he turned us into slaves?”
“What is she talking about?” The guy asked from behind me and I was tired of referring to him that way in my mind but I hadn't heard anyone address him and he was really butting into what didn't concern him. Maybe I didn't need to know his name.
“Look, we don't know you and you don't know us as much as you think you do so if you can give us our keys so we can be on our way, i swear we won't have to see each other again,”
“Oh please!” Katie rolled her eyes, “like you're the type to keep your promises,”
“Excuse me, what's your problem with me? Why do humans always turn against each other at the slightest opportunity?”
“Turn against each other, really? Coming from you that got there and completely forgot the rest of the entire planet?!” She screamed, walking over to me, livid.
“Woah! Woah! Katie, you've gotta calm down,” guy with a ripped body said, trying to diffuse the tension but Katie wasn't having it.
“Don't tell me to calm down Jamal!” She snapped at him, shaking his hands off, “this bitch had the chance to change how we're treated and what does she do? Nothing!”
Oh, that's his name.
She walked away angrily into the dense forest and Jamal followed her.
“I think she's one of us,” Anna said to me and I took a step back to look at her.
“But how? Where would she have been able to get the necessary material?”
“Maybe the same way we did or some other way, I don't know but that's not what us important,” Anna said as she stood up from the mattress she was sitting on and joined me, “I just wish they'd stop being so secretive and tell us what the fuck they're doing in the damned forest!”
“I was scared they might have been sent by Xavier to get us. You know, a special human force to get us to lower our guard down but that was too dramatic to be fake so I'm going out on a limb here but what if they're who we set out to find?” I said, looking around at the people walking around the cars around the place. Someone was even carrying a freshly killed deer and loading it in the boot of a car.
“But we can't ask them that outrightly without putting ourselves in danger. I hate this game of back and forth,”
We sat down for a few seconds before he came back without her.
“Look, we can't let you go yet, we just need to keep you here for a few days to be sure he's not coming after you.”
“We don't want to go,” I stood up.
“What are you talking about?” His frown was cute too, damn.
“Like I said, I'm on a run from my husband and we were looking for the resistance before this mishap but seeing as we know next to nothing about them, I think we'll just go with you guys instead,”
Angry Katie walked back as I finished and her look was one of disbelief.
“You're looking for the resistance?”
“Yes. I have some information that they need but I have no idea where to find them. So I guess that'll have to wait until I can gather more information about their whereabouts. Don't worry, I'm completely done with my former life. He'll never find you guys because of me, I promise,”
“Well in that case, it's our pleasure to welcome you to the Resistance,” Jamal says with a smile.
I gave Anna
a look and she nodded.
We were going to be on high alert. All of this was too convenient.
