CHAPTER HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN
“Are you alright?” Zanyr asked as I paused. After the speech I gave, I should have been out there by now but the sudden movement in my stomach made me scared.
Would doing this be hurting my child?
I looked at the screen again to see Xavier and I knew there was no time for thinking.
I had to do this now or watch him get cut to bits by these assholes. Thankfully our action of shooting away the other warships had reduced the amount of people chasing after him with sharp objects, there were still an insane amount of them and he wasn't as fast with killing them as he was before.
So I projected my body to the other side and I screamed.
“Heyy!” I yelled at them, causing them to pause.
But the misogynistic fools shook their head and returned back to what they were doing.
“Fuck!” I yelled, smacking my hand against the steel desk in frustration, a sense of urgency mixed with dire need.
That action spread fireworks across the dark space, making them finally turn towards my hologram.
From one attacker which kept stabbing into empty air to fifteen and then gradually, a horde of them, leaving Xavier with a few of them which he did quick work of.
Then I teleported to his back and touched him, ready to move us back but I couldn't move.
“What are you trying to do? You're not with a mask?” He yelled at me, fear lacing his eyes just as my breathing ceased.
“I.. I was.. trying to teleport you back,” I wheezed.
“Look, I'm going to control your mind now, it'll cost me every bit of energy I have so you must not resist it, okay?” He instructed, just as the horde of Drakkonians began pouring back as my hologram disappeared.
“I'm ready,” I croaked to Xavier, struggling hard. I was the stronger one here since he'd spent all his energy fighting so I would have taken his oxygen mask and taken us back but he would probably die if anything else went wrong in his system. He looked well spent.
“Baby, please stop thinking,” he whispered to my ears just as an approaching drak raised his spear in our direction.
But Xavier got us out on time, landing on our bed immediately the spear was thrown.
I inhaled deeply, my ribs hurting from the absence and sudden presence of air in my system.
“That was incredibly stupid… and fucking amazing, thank you baby,” he says as I struggle to get up from him, my hands going to my stomach.
“I didn't know if it was okay to shoot at them since you didn't keep any sort of defense earlier on,” I said, not feeling anything but panic so his words flew over my head.
The Draks were positioning their guns and I needed to be sure it was okay to go all out against them.
“Oh, it's because I thought I could take them individually and then absorb their technology but I say burn them all to shit. They're too dumb to actually do anything that remarkable. We'll find the original of their designs and get it from there,” he said, still sitting on the bed, tired.
“Okay, the walkie-talkie is in the command room, I'll be waiting for you there,” I kissed his eyes and teleported back to the room, nearly running into a confused looking Zyx.
“We didn't hear from you or see you so I had to run out. Gave the people a bit of a scare while at it,” he added, scratching his head.
Three rapid blows were sent out way and I didn't need to say the words before he was rushing towards his station again.
I picked up the walkie just as Xavier walked into the room, looking tired as hell.
“Alright guys, let's go all out, Zyx reposition to the front, Lyra-en you too. I need you guys to go all in right now. Our mission is to destroy everything they are,” I commanded and I saw them load their guns manually. “Probably leave one person for interrogation,” I added as an afterthought.
“Baby, please sit down, you're already stressed out,” Xavier admonished, taking my hands and putting me on the leather, office chair.
His presence seemed to replenish my power and our baby even kicked a bit harder than what he'd been doing since the last six hours.
“Thank you,” I whispered and sat up, going through the material I was seeing earlier for how much firepower I could load on the guns.
“Guys, I'm going to kick it up a notch so once you finish your current rounds, let me know so I can replace it,” I spoke into the walkie, getting nods only from the screen as they were busy firing at Draks and their strong, iron machinery.
“Can you make it double mouthed?” Xavier suggested next to me, holding on to the chair for support. “Also, increase the weight, it'll make the guns fire faster.”
I nodded and made the adjustments as I reloaded each machine and the effect was instantly obvious.
Draks were screaming left right and center, the first ship splitting in two from Zyx’s position.
“Awesome!” Amer exclaimed next to my right hand.
Xavier grabbed my hand in amidst the chaos and we exchanged a look; him reassuring me and me overwhelmed with emotions I couldn't name, above it all, fear for my baby.
All of this would definitely affect him and with his record of helping me out every time he got the chance, I feared he might have gone too far this time.
But something worse happened; all through the fight, I'd surrounded the ship with a shield, some places stronger than others and once an attack was coming, I always got notifications in my mind. But I focused all my attention on reloading guns that were firing at these cockroach like bastards that refused to die quickly.
So when the yellow light I was already familiar with started blinking, the blow was already too close and my defense, weak.
I tensed, there was no time to brace for impact.
