CHAPTER HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-TWO
TESSA'S POV
I watched over Xander, still feeling lethargic and out of sorts.
I'd been this way since I gave birth, only spending time with Xavier in the mornings and having my days filled with nothing but worrying, and sometimes, Roe would bring my godson, and he'd brighten up my day a little bit.
The doctor said Xander was doing fine and wasn't showing any signs of damage yet, mentally and physically but it was still too early to detect.
He's supposed to have been out of the incubator, but it seems his rapid growth in my stomach had been stumped, and he was now progressing at a very slow speed.
Or maybe I was the one not giving him space. I was always here, looking at him, hoping for confirmation that he was completely fine.
But all I got was some fussing around and then him sleeping most of the time.
Suddenly, the TV came on on its own. At the same time, Lisbeth walked into my former room where I'd been shifted to. I didn't want everyone to have such free access to Xavier’s room, so this seemed like the best option until we were ready to leave the ship.
“Hey love, how are you feeling?” She asked as we both saw Xavier’s face light up the screen.
“Tired, honestly. I'll kill Fanny again if I get the chance to. None of this was necessary for crying out loud,” I snapped, remembering how Xavier had kept torturing him until the bastard killed himself.
Corbin was back in his prison, basically brainless.
So I now had no one to pour all of these vexations on, and I had to put on a brave face for everyone.
But deep down, I was sad as fuck. Images of my child dying kept pouring into my mind, just like they did when I was in a coma. What if all of this was just a slower process to that point?
I didn't want to lose my baby, he meant the world to me.
“You're very strong, Tessa,” Lisbeth turned to me and said in a stern voice. “More than you could ever know and I'm not talking about these new, alien powers of yours. Deep inside you lies a pool of strength that is enough to pull you through every situation so hold on strong, you'll escape this too,” she finished, her hands clasping mine.
“I'm genuinely tired, Liz. I want things to go my way for once. Right from childhood, it's been one thing or the other, and now, my innocent son has gotten in the crossfire because he was trying to help me out. I just want to have things go my way for once,” I whined, and she cleaned the lone tear that escaped my face.
“But you wouldn't be here without some of these challenges. I know some of them nearly took you out, but you have a wonderful husband, a position above everyone else here, and a wonderful son. You definitely wouldn't trade these for some peace. Besides, things are turning up for you. Let's listen to what he has to say, I'm sure it's good news.”
I settled on a bed near the incubator and watched as Xavier coughed into a mic, looked into the camera directly, and began to speak.
“Citizens of the future Zorvath, it's been a while since we spoke,” he began, and loud cheers echoed throughout the ship.
I could imagine what other possible spaceships in this location would say, seeing a screaming flash of aliens flying past.
When the noise quieted down, he continued even though I was busy admiring his handsome features.
I was completely healed and should have been back in bed with him, at least having sex and all of that but it was like my will to live had been zapped away from me, along with my libido.
Everything pissed my body off but my mind really appreciated the man in front of me.
“A few weeks ago, we experienced a surprise attack from what we call Drakkonians,” he continued. “With the help of my wife, your queen, as well as your new Army commanders, we were able to repel their attack,” he paused, and the ship erupted in violent chairs of excitement. “But we kept some for inquiries and it has come to our knowledge that we're not going home to a dead planet that only needs my magical abilities to be renewed.”
The crowd was dead silent as he passed on this new information that even I wasn't aware of.
“It turns out that there are thriving Ky’rhans there. At least those close to the twin kings,” he said and the crowd erupted in gasps. “Yes, the concept of twins is quite unheard of and the consequence of this is that we're not going to be facing one but two kings along with his empire. I know all of this because the current king, who has access to the movement of our ship, had sent this squad to take us out. But I'm sure they didn't count on my wonderful wife being a fast thinker and saving the day,” he said, beaming with pride as the people began clapping, making me feel heady and happy.
These were my people now, my child sealing the connection between us all. So I was genuinely happy to have done something good for them even though it nearly cost me my child.
“But this means that there's been a change in plans. I won't be facing the barbarians of Zorvath alone and our current army isn't going to be enough. I'm hereby calling for more volunteers, as well as everyone with a calm mind, to be trained in sniping and arrow shooting. This includes humans, in fact, they're the best for this. We must take back what belongs to us, regardless of the stumbling blocks heading our way, and to do this, we have to put aside our differences. Our survival depends on it,” he finished and the screen went blank.
“That wasn't good news,” Lisbeth said wistfully.
"Nope, but I have an idea."
