CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FOUR
They took us over to one of the vans and handed us out bags.
“Sorry, I can't give you your keys. You nearly blew out our camera,” Jamal said with a smile as he opened the door for me to get in. Anna followed me after.
“Guys! Let's go!” He called out to the rest of the crew as Katie got into the passenger seat. ‘Where they together?’ I wondered and then reminded myself that it was none of my business.
Besides, I still wanted to have this connection with Xavier until I was sure I was free from him entirely. It was the only thing holding back whatever cruelty others met at his hands from getting to me and getting into anything with anybody else will crush that. I just hope that wasn't another lie that they sold to me.
Loaded up and ready, I watched them drive through the forest, a path clearing up that I wouldn't even know existed. I was wary and confused; the resistance was supposed to be a small group of dissatisfied people at the edge of the capital who just did little to no damage considering they were addicts and homeless people but this was an organized system. Their supposed leader was a young guy for crying out loud and this whole plan of living in a forest was damn brilliant.
I guess Anna was thinking the same thing too because she grabbed my hand, hers were trembling.
With the way our luck had been going the past few days, it won't come as a surprise if we'd left the hands of Xavier and his possessive plans and landed into deeper shit.
And we were basically helpless.
I felt the need to check our bags and I noticed it was roughed up a bit, someone must have gone through it. Was that why they trusted us? I don't know, I mean, seeing this bundle of cash could mean two things if I was in their position. Either we were really sent by the King to get them or we had money that they could use for their plans. The first idea seemed stupid though, the King would never put me in such a mission when there are other humans under his control.
He had said it before that I was the only thing he did for himself and being his first and only toy, it made no sense he'd send me into any dangerous mission.
This left the other option. We were going to give them the money at some point. I just wonder why they hadn't taken it already.
I took out some chocolate bars and gave one to Anna.
“You want some?” I asked and as I expected, Katie shook her head but Jamal replied yes and I opened one before handing it over to him.
“Thanks,”
“It's no problem,”
I dug deeper in the bag, checking to see all the contents and everything was complete.
Except his phone.
“Something is missing in our bag,” I said, my heart beating fast.
It was my only connection to him and I don't know why, but I wanted to keep that phone for as long as possible.
“What's that?” Katie grumbled.
“A phone. It's supposed to be three but it's just two here,”
“But there are two of you, do you guys use more than one phone over there? Meanwhile, humans are dying everyday and thousands are disappearing. Human queen for humans my ass,”
“You are so wrong in so many ways it's fucking hilarious,” Anna exclaimed.
“Oh really? Then explain why your posh sister has two mobile devices when the entire Resistance has just four!”
“First of all, it's not her phone, okay? And all of this hate and anger is from so many assumptions. If you could get off your high horse for a second, you'd be able to notice the irregularities here. For example, why is she in this forest with you, in normal clothes like you, running from the same alien you're running from?”
“How will I know!”
“By asking!” I screamed at her, done with her attitude. “Look, you're not my focus right now, okay? If humans feel like I've disappointed them, it's probably because I have no way of communicating with them so they don't really know what's happening there. But I'm out of there now and I'll let them into the secrets that have kept us all divided for so long. And if it's the last thing I do, I'll send those bastards back to where they came from,”
“That's a bold assertion,” Jamal said, his cool voice beginning to piss me off.
“Well, you don't know what we know. It's life changing. Also, why is no one saying anything about the phone?”
“Oh, it has a tracker in it and we took it out to misdirect it,”
“Oh.”
I looked at Anna and thought about the next words that would have come out of my mouth, scared of its impact.
“It actually belongs to the King,” Anna said and she pressed my hand.
She trusted them. I had no idea why so I wasn't letting down my guard.
Her response threw them off and Katie legit turned around to look at us.
“You see what I said? She's a fucking spy!” She shouted and I groaned in frustration.
“Don't be like that, Katie. Remember we went to them, not the other way around,”
“Thank you for having common sense, jeez! Look, we escaped by putting Xavier out with a stronger potion of whatever you guys threw at us. It's still with me here but we had a bit of an issue with our escape plan and everything went awry. I took his phone as a last minute thought. I don't know the password but I was hoping to find someone who did so we can actually figure out what planet he's sending those humans to!”
“They're responsible for the kidnappings?” Katie asked in shock.
“It's kind of obvious, Kay,” Anna said, a smile on her face.
I think I also liked how shocked we made her.
I really don't blame her for not trusting us completely, I still don't understand why Jamal does but she was going overboard with it. It was as though she had personal beef with me or something and I hated that.
I watched Jamal bring out his phone and called someone.
“Jackson, please take the phone to the Northern region and find someone to crack it open. It has very important information in it and we don't wanna lose it,” he said before cutting the call.
“It’s looking like you might be worth all of the trouble,” Katie grumbled as we arrived at an open clearing and whate
ver thought I'd had about the resistance flew out of my mind, replaced by awe and shock.
