CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY
I stared at the television screen, my fingers going to my hair in frustration.
I was happy the resistance had made their message known, but now it was being overshadowed by this crazy man.
I knew something was about to happen as a result of the announcement he made but I had no idea what.
Normal television returned and I saw news reporters running after Xavier who was on his way to the plane.
I saw how frustrated the whole situation made him and he took a deep breath before turning back to the camera with a smile.
“Your Highness, what do you have to say about your father's message to your people today?” Someone shouted at him from the crowd of news reporters and ky’rhans gathered around the Jet’s steps.
“Everyone, you need to calm down and stay away from the mansion,” he began, a warning clear as day emanated from his lips. “My pregnant wife is there and you wouldn't want to hurt the future King Xy’thern won't take it lightly with anyone who defies this order.” It gave me a feeling of safety but I wiped it off, who knew what these aliens would do for that drug? “My father attempted to kill my Luminari and that is why he lost his position as king and that selfishness is the same reason he's trying to destroy everything we've built in the last decades.” He then paused, as if rethinking his next words before he continued speaking. “This evening, you are expected to begin boarding the mothership as we'll be returning back to our home. This one has outlasted its use,” he finished and the camera cut off.
Now everything began making a little bit of sense.
I'd thought the journey was still far off or something. I mean, what was the point of a resistance when they were on their way out?
I definitely hope they aren't going to abandon the former King on this planet. He'd probably try to start up something again and some humans would run to him as the only figure of authority.
I settled back on the bed, but there was no way I could sleep anymore.
It dawned on me that if I didn't find my way out of here, I'll be taken to Zorvath with them and I'll never see my family again.
My phone rang. It was Anna.
“What's up? I thought we decided against phone calls,” I said immediately I picked up.
“Corbin has betrayed us!” She shouted and from the background, it was obvious she was running.
“How? What do you mean?”
“He… he sent a search party into the forest… he was angry that we went to the city without… without consulting him and he has decided to disband the resistance!”
“Wait, let me call him so he can call this off! You're going to be safe, I promise.”
I cut the call and called Corbin immediately.
“Hi, I heard you were sick?” He spoke into the phone as if he hadn't just condemned my sister to death. Not just her, a lot of people who he had gathered together for his own selfish reasons and interests.
“Yes, I'm sick of your shady personality! How can you do this to us?!”
“Do what? Baby girl, you need to calm down. I'm currently resting from all the work your husband has me running around for and now I have to get up to guard the palace,” he grumbled in the last part.
“You sent forces against the resistance, knowing fully well that my sister is there!” I screamed, frustrated with his lazy reaction to what was happening.
“Oh,” he realized what I was talking about and I was hoping he'd feel a little remorse for what he was doing and call it back but he seemed to not care. “If I didn't do it, Xavier would have, okay? They were not supposed to do anything until I told them to.”
“What about my sister?!” I yelled into the phone, tears threatening to spill from my eyes.
“She's a part of the resistance, is she not? I heard she even helped to release that app that I'd told them to shut down. It's not my fault if she gets what's coming for her,” he said.
I was frustrated. It was like everything I'd known about this man was a lie.
“How could you be so nonchalant about this? I thought you actually liked me? Why are you doing this?”
“I have no idea what you want me to do, okay? The resources it'll take to pull your sister out of the hell raining down on that forest is going to be much. I can't do that for someone who's not mine.”
“Yours? What on earth do you mean by that?”
“What I mean, Tessy, is that if you give me your consent, I'll come down to that clinic where you're locked away like a prisoner and free you from Xavier's control. So you get your freedom and your sister gets to live. And so you know, I'm not like my cousin who makes empty threats. I'll definitely leave her to die if you don't make the right choice so tic-toc, love,”
I was livid.
What he was suggesting was crazy and fucked up. I mean, what even gave him the mind to say all of this to me? Did he not fear that I'll report it all to Xavier?
But his audacity made me scared of the unknown. What if Xavier didn't believe it was his best friend and cousin that gave me that powder?
I was definitely not going to agree with his demands, so I decided to tell him off.
“You're as much of a control freak as Xavier is, yet you're always making it seem as though you were better, more levelheaded. You just play a long game but at the end of the day, you'll still be where you always have been, second place; the one nobody wants but will only take if no one else is available. I'll find a way to rescue my sister but if anything happens to her, I'll find a way to kill you,” I threatened and cut the call.
Then I searched for Xavier’s new and unsaved number on my phone and called him.
Hopefully, he will be able to help save her before it's too late.
