CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE
**TESSA'S POV**
I watched as my father addressed the world, his confidence growing with each word.
I was very shocked when Xavier handed him the reins of the kingdom.
I had ensured Kane and all the members of the resistance that got imprisoned were released before we left the mansion.
With the app that Taiwan and my sister were working on, they'll be able to help him lead the world into a new era.
I hugged my Mom tightly, she has always been amazing and I refused to let this situation ruin our relationship. She was watching her daughter go through unimaginable things and if this was her trauma response to it, I wouldn't blame her.
“Make sure you take care of yourself. I'm so sorry we couldn't go with you,” she said gently to me. “I know you're the bravest girl out of all my children and the universe will guide you in this higher purpose.”
I nodded, tears in my eyes at the goodbye that this was.
She unclasped her necklace, the one that Dad gave her on their first anniversary. She'd never taken it off before that moment and it hurt that Xavier was affecting so much of my life and those around me without even caring.
She wore it around me and kissed my cheek.
“How do I turn this off?” My dad asked and I realized we'd been on air as Momma spoke to me.
Anna chuckled and ran over the back of the camera and turned it off.
“That was awkward," she whispered, making us laugh out loud.
I took Dad on a tour around the capital secretariat and it corresponded with the details Xavier had compiled for him.
“Give me a second, while I check out something,” I said to them, leaving them in my former office which now belonged to my mother.
I went down that familiar corridor that held that iron door.
I still remember Xavier’s words in my head about humans choosing to live in Zorvath.
I mean, that would be completely dumb considering they already treated us like crap on our own planet where we have the semblance of a right; who knows how they'll be treated on foreign soil?
As expected, the door was locked tightly but I had the file Dad had and I began searching the layout of the building as explained in it.
“What are you looking for?” Anna asked, coming up to me.
“This door has some important things in it and I was hoping he would put the password for this door in the illustration but I can't find anything. Look here,” I pointed to a page, “there's a sign that a room is supposed to be here but it leaves it blank. If you weren't paying attention, you'd think it was an extension of the next office,”
“What if it is? What if there's an entrance into it from the next office?” She asked and I thought it over.
“Wouldn't hurt to check, there's no one here to stop us,” I replied.
All the guards and workers had taken their families and boarded the ship so the building was empty.
Over the weekend, my dad would roll out employment and appointments for humans to fill everything that the aliens used to occupy.
We opened the glass doors and walked into the office.
It was a few doors opposite mine and yet I never knew who worked there. Well, considering I barely worked for two weeks here, it was expected.
But still, the office was filled with stacks of books all over the place.
If not for the huge wooden desk and leather swing chair, I'd think this was a library.
“Can you scan all of this into our app?” Anna asked and I nodded.
I looked around instinctively to make sure Xavier wasn't anywhere close by.
I’d been able to scan multiple books at once in his library and we were done way earlier than we'd anticipated so when he'd walked in to check on me, I was just resting with a book on my lap.
It turns out using these powers made one quite weak afterwards.
I began touching the books one after the other as Anna held the app close to my head.
With featherlight brushes of my fingers, the phone kept beeping green.
Taiwan couldn't contain his excitement when he'd seen how much progress we'd made. Their phone call was of him gushing and praising Anna while she blushed like a tomato.
Hopefully he didn't turn out to be another Teslim.
Afterwards, we proceeded to start looking for a secret door; which was difficult considering all the walls were lined up with books and leaving space only next to the windows, the table and the entrance into the office.
“What if they used these books to block the door?” I wondered out loud, searching for anything unusual since it looked like whoever had hidden the door – if there was any – had done an amazing job at it.
“What if it's like one of those secret doors that you touch a book and it clicks open?”
“You've been reading a lot of these novels, haven't you?” I joked, not giving the idea a thought.
It'll be dumb to go through all of the trouble of hiding the door only to leave it to the chance of someone touching the right book.
Yes, there were thousands of books in this mini Library but it would take just one lucky guess or a thousand but you catch my drift.
“I just feel you're giving these people too much credit,”
“Baby girl, they kept an entire planet under a mind spell for decades. They've gotta be extra smart to do that. But you know what? Maybe I'm overthinking this, I'll just scan the books again and see if there's a dud somewhere,” I replied and set to work.
This time, I paid more attention, which made the process slower and I got weaker with each book.
Then I flicked past one and nothing was transferred.
“That's strange,” I muttered weakly.
“What's that?” Anna perked up.
“There's an empty book… somewhere..here,” I replied, pulling out the thick leather back of a book titled ”Ar
t of War”.
Immediately I did that, the books began moving into the white walls, to my amazement.
