CHAPTER FIFTY

The first time I met Rose, I was twelve she was wearing a pink dress that I loved because of its flowery design. I'd asked her how she got it and she told me her sister got it for her from the SOS experiment money she got and I could see how much it meant to her.

We'd become fast friends after I discovered we shared the same dislike for the popular girl Michaela who bullied nearly everyone because her father was the principal.

We had grown so tight through school and outside of it, planning a now unrealistic future together but as I saw her in that moment, I shed a tear not caring what my makeup team had to say about it.

“You look so beautiful, Tessy! I can't believe you were so lucky,” she gushed and hugged me tightly.

“How are you doing? Is he treating you well?” I asked with deep concern, watching as her eyes flickered between me and a figure at my back.

I looked in the direction she was looking at and saw a man that was probably her alien baby father and I knew the darkness in his eyes was the reason why my best friend was flighty and scared.

“Yea, we're doing great. I learned that the pregnancy doesn't last longer than six months so I should be done in less than two years or at most, three,” she replied, the prospect of leaving her predicament exciting to her.

“Wait, three years? How long do you need to wean a child?” Anna asked in shock.

“He wants two to three children so I should be done soon. I'm not allowed to wean the child, I'll rest for a few weeks before we start trying again. That's what he said,” she informed us and I mirrored my Mother's horrified face.

Before I could react to the horrifying image she painted in my head, I heard my name being called down the pew. I looked up and it was my darling husband waving me over

“Give Anna your phone number. I'll call you immediately when I settle down. This is unacceptable. It's time they start seeing us as humans instead of some breeding mule that they treat anyhow. He hits you, doesn't he?” I asked and she stared at me like a deer caught in headlights.

Rose was usually happy and excited, joining me in my adventures with glee but right now, she looked like a damn Zombie.

I don't care how Xavier wanted to act towards me but he's gotta rescue my best friend from her living hell and that was not negotiable.

Knowing I wasn't going to get much out of her with Xavier prowling towards me, I hugged her tightly and cleaned the tears in my eyes.

“I'll call you, alright?” I told her and I walked in the direction of my husband who was nearly at the front.

“You forgot we've got a coronation to get to? Or you also don't want to be my queen just as you don't want to be my wife?” He growled but I'd had enough.

“What's gotten into you? Your father tries to force himself on me and after saving me from that horror, you turn into this monster. I don't want to marry you but you have made sure I don't have a choice, do you also have to be an asshole about it?” I snapped, not caring if I caused a scene.

I was just so done with walking on eggshells around him. I didn't even understand the reason for the sudden flip in mood and attitude.

I was expecting him to say something rude as he'd been acting all day but he just took my hand and began walking us to the car that was packed at the entrance.

I guess my parents weren't going to be at my own coronation.

It felt weird but since his father was in a dungeon, it made me less upset about it.

Getting into the car was a bit difficult with my long gown and I was expecting him to help me pack it up but instead, he shocked me by tearing off the garter.

“Why did you do that?”

“I'll buy you a thousand more floor length gowns but let's get out here first,” he snapped and I took steady breaths to avoid lashing out at him in return.

“You must be really desperate about this coronation. What could go wrong? Your father is not coming, is he?” I asked, really scared of that happening.

“He won't be coming out but some council members might demand a trial before the coronation and I'm trying to get the argument out of the way. I'm not desperate to be anything,” he grumbled.

“Oh. Sorry about that. I just thought they'd all be happy to have you as the new king,”

“Don't be dumb. We were literally attacked the other day,”

“Don't speak to me like that. You have gotten all you need from me and you could have sent me back like every other heartless alien out there who's treating humans like shit but you decided to talk about emotions and shit so you don't have the right to treat me like crap. Stop going back and forth, it's annoying,” I stated, my anger rising with each word.

“I'm sorry, I'm just a bit tense. Shouldn't have called you dumb, you're anything but,”

“That's no excuse. You could still tear up the papers and send me away, I don't mind. You are just making it obvious that falling in love with you will fuck me up,” I said and turned away from the confused look he was giving me.

I hated how hot and cold he was blowing and he kept making me scared of our future together. There was a very high possibility he'd give up on his human side and become a terrible ky’rhan. But then, his alien was nicer to me these past few days so I was very much confused.

We got to the venue and he had the decency to help me get down from the car.

I looked around the grand edifice that was the state building. It was grande and spoke volumes of the amount of money that had been spent on it.

Statues of King Seth were in different points around the building and it made me feel weird seeing him for the first time after his attempt at killing me even though it was in stone form.

The car had stopped at the entrance and moved away after we got down.

My gown was easier to walk in now and I'd ditched my heels for flats in the car so it was easy to go with him without the hassle of controlling my outfit.

Before we entered the big building, Xavier stopped us and the train of men and ky’rhans around us paused as well, giving us a wide berth for him to talk to me.

“Look, I'm going to be put through certain tests before the crown is placed on my head so you'll have to stay with Corbin while I go through it. He's the only person I trust right now,” he informs me.

“Oh. Will you be fine, though? I thought getting your powers meant you'd already gotten the free pass to the crown,” I asked in concern.

“I have no idea. It's a test of my ability to put our course above everything else, including myself and everything I hold dear. I'll be stripped of my powers for the duration of the tests so things might get dicey but you'll be safe, I promise,” he assured me but I didn't like his response one bit.

I might not be in love with him but I didn't want anything to happen to him.
