CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIX

The ship read eighty percent full as I walked into the mansion, a case in hand for Tessa.

I'd thought of what to get her, and it occurred to me that apart from her affinity for water, I'd not gotten close enough to her to know what she really likes. The realization added to my guilt.
“Your Highness, when do you want us to start moving the vault?” A guard asked me and I turned to look at him.

I had no recollection of employing him and I made a habit of knowing everyone that worked in proximity with me.

“What is your name again?” I asked, my tail springing up above my head, sensing danger.

“Kaden, your highness,” he answered quickly, his pulse racing.

He was even lying about his name. That was strange.

“Kaden, I don't remember asking anyone to move anything, so where did you get that information from?”
“I sent him to you Cousin but it seemed he got lost along the way. I'm just returning from the westside of Russia where some Ky’rhans were having issues with the ship’s entrance.” Corbin replied as he walked in from outside.

“You always forget to let me know where you're going before doing that. I needed you for the information you dropped about my father and I couldn't reach you.”

“I apologize about that. I rushed immediately when I heard the complaints,” he replied with a smile.

For some reason, everything about him had begun rubbing me off the wrong way and I wanted to blame Xy’thern for this but Corbin was also acting weird.

If anyone was having problems, they'd report to their regional leader who would then get back to me.

I nodded towards him and decided to walk down to the dungeon. Maybe one of these resistance members would have real information for me.

I put Tessa's gift back in my pocket and began walking towards the stairs.

“Can I speak to you about something? It's quite important,” I turned back to Corbin.

He was dressed in gray pants and a woolen shirt. That wouldn't have worked for him in Russia considering the extreme cold but I shook my head free of the thought.
“Come on then, let's go to my office,” I responded, changing my trajectory to the elevator.

I brought out my phone to call Tessa but I had mistakenly brought out the old one so I put it back and got the new one out instead.

“That looked like your old phone,”

“Yea, I saw it at my father's safety house. All of this dilemma is connected and I can't seem to put my finger on it. Besides, I've got bigger things to focus on, the man would be dead soon anyways,”

“He's not yet?”

“No, I still have some use for him.”

We walked into my office after I sent her the text to meet in my office with her sister. Hopefully, this conversation would be as quick as possible, Xy’thern wasn't comfortable and it was getting more difficult to control him.

“So, what's bothering you? I've told you your position is secure once we get back, we just have to fight together to make sure everything goes as planned. We're only leaving human survivors, the rebellion must fall,” I declared, rage at the people that destroyed our planet burning in my heart.

I'd sent a delegation of robots to the planet and the report I got made me realize how I wouldn't succeed if I didn't have Tessa with me.

They'd destroyed our ozone layer and ruined the land. We'd all have to wear masks for the first month before the air can be breathable again. It made no sense why they'd take the planet from my grandfather only to completely destroy it.

“About that…” my eyes snapped to Corbin. “I would like to stay back here for a few years. We need to make sure this planet survives our exit so who is best to keep it for you until you come back?”

I frowned.
“Corbin, we have discussed our important roles in keeping Zorvath alive, how are you changing your mind out of the blues?”

“Because if we don't succeed in Zorvath, we'll need this planet to get back to. It's perfect for our species. I'm just trying to help here, don't see it the wrong way,” he finished, getting up abruptly.

Before he could leave, the door opened and Tessa walked in with her sister.

The dynamic between the two used to be hot and sizzling. I'd caught them kissing once but here they were, mutually irritated by each other's presence.
Corbin walked out of my office, jamming the door behind him.

“When are we leaving?” Tessa asked, and I smiled, grateful that this part was settled. I would have eternity to beg for her love but it won't be possible if we weren't together in the same place.

“Let me see,” I replied and checked the details on my palm, “it's 95% full so in the next three hours, we should be ready to leave. I need to talk to you guys about your allegations against Corbin. Your words has made Xy’thern very irrational so I need you to either give me irrefutable proofs or take your words back,” I stated, my face devoid of emotions.

“I have no idea what type of proof you want from me. After I'd overheard your conversation with him, he called me on the phone and asked me to meet him at the Jacuzzi room. The correspondence on my phone and on the camera can show you that,” she began and her heart rate was normal. She wasn't lying. My own heart rate spiked with fear. If she was right and Corbin was betraying me, shit was about to hit the fan.

“He gave her that sleeping powder and told her how to use it. This is a very closely guarded secret by your people. Also, he has a second number he uses to call Jamal, the resistance leader. If you search his room, you'll find it I'm sure,” her sister added.

“I don't need to search his room, just find the number for me, I'll trace it.” I instructed and dismissed her sister afterwards.
“You want to talk to me?” Tessy asked as I reached into my pocket for her gift.

“I got you something,” I said with a small smile. Hopefully, this will set us on the path of recovery.

“I'm not interested. Help me bring Roe here and take us out of here before I start feeling terrible about this decision,” she snapped angrily and walked away.
It was obvious that the road to recovery was far for us.
