CHAPTER NINETY-TWO
Corbin had a point, feeling sorry for Xavier wasn't the smartest thing to do. He got the bad end of the bargain when it came to fathers but he's literally a King right now with insane abilities and the world under his command.
If he wanted to change, he would have and if he ever had the ability to love me, he would know how much I love my people and stop using them as space fuel for whatever it is he's kidnapping them for.
Maybe the only thing the sex did was to make him want to save me for himself, like I'd driven him into obsession because what he had planned was so out of character, even for him.
Anyways, I fetched Anna and then got Roe from the doctor who confirmed she was close to going into labor in a few weeks time and we went into the car.
“Wait, what did he tell you?” Roe asked in a whisper.
“We can't discuss anything out here, okay? Just follow my lead,” I told them and they nodded.
We loaded up the car with our bags and I made sure to pack everything Roe might need in the whole process. I hated having to drag her through a literal kidnapping situation in her state but we didn't have much of a choice.
Before I could take out my phone to call Xavier, he walked out of the house wearing a tracksuit as though he was just going for a run and not planning to put me in a coma and send me to somewhere I didn't even know was safe for me.
“Mia Cara,” he said as he hugged me tightly, “you're ready?”
I nodded as I didn't trust my voice to not betray my true feelings.
My heart was thudding as he kissed me, and I felt like I was going to explode from all the conflicting nerves.
The powder was still in my pocket as he kissed me and for the first time, his lips didn't overwhelm me.
“Let's go,” he said, finally pulling away from my lips. I guess he noticed how I wasn't feeling it this time.
I hoped Corbin would be able to get my parents before he woke up from the nap he was going to be taking when I drugged him
As we drove, my mind was heavily disturbed. I'd gone through the plan in my head many times; I was going to kiss him and put the powder in his face before he realized what was happening.
Hopefully, it worked immediately before he realized what was going on. I didn't want to see his face as he realized what was happening.
Another thing that scared me was the question of Corbin's true loyalty. I knew he was not an enemy of the King even though he had his own differing opinions. He always did as he was told and they barely disagreed on anything.
So the thought of him deceiving me was overwhelming but then, what other choice did I have? I either took his offer of help or try escaping myself and I know very well that option is dead.
I just didn't like how helpless I was about the entire situation.
“You're not curious about where we're going?” Xavier asked me, breaking the tense silence.
I adjusted from my awkward position and plastered a fake smile on my face before I faced him
“I'm quite sure I wouldn't have any idea where that is. Besides, I trust you, let's just get there so we can finally see our parents,”
“Don't worry, they're waiting for you as we speak,”
“Why can't I talk to them though? I just want to make sure Dad is feeling better,” I asked, hoping he'd give me some sort of insight about their situation.
“It's a fortress and there's no reception so you'll have to wait until we get there, alright?”
“Okay,”
He gave me a strange look before focusing on the road and I knew he could sense my unease.
So I put on the radio, knowing it'll drown out the tension in the car, especially the way Anna and Roe were looking terrified at the backseat. They were terrible actors from the look of things.
“Fuck, who drove my car without my permission?” Xavier growled, the sudden show of anger startling us; Roe even squeaked. “Oh, sorry about that,” he apologized to us for the outburst, “the car is low on fuel which means someone must have used it without filling it up. Those damn guards,” he said in anger.
“That's really audacious of them,” I said, my voice filled with a different type of anger, the fake one because deep inside me, I was getting the conviction that Corbin wasn't playing with my feelings and that this was actually going to happen.
“What are you gonna do?” Anna asked from the backseat, her voice really different. She was terrified and confused as hell. I didn't get the chance to explain anything to her and I hated that. She was quite imaginative and I can bet a million scenarios would be running through her mind right now.
“It's no biggie, I'll just go to a gas station a few minutes from here and we'll be back on the road,” he replied, giving her a smile from the rearview mirror.
My heart began beating faster as we got closer to the place because I knew I had to do this now or put my pregnant friend in danger.
I thought about him, about his safety in such a compromising situation but hopefully, Corbin only wants to save me and his betrayal of his friend, cousin and King ended there.
I carefully dipped my right fingers in the powder and then placed my left on his lap.
“Don't worry, nothing is gonna happen to you. I'm just filling up the tank,” he said with a light chuckle and placed his right hand over mine in a gentle caress. He definitely thought I was scared of something happening while he wasn't with us.
“Will it be fast?” I asked, my voice small from feigning fear and sadness.
He drove into the gas station before responding to me.
“Of course. Do you trust me?” He asked as he parked and I nodded and reached closer to him and he took the bait; at least half of it.
Instead of allowing me to grab his face like I'd wanted to, he did that, kissing me deeply and immediately, the plan scattered a little bit in my head.
Roe coughed a little bit and I quickly pulled my fingers from my pocket and robbed them on his face.
But nothing happened.
Shit!
