CHAPTER HUNDRED AND SIXTY-TWO
Xavier quickly rushed in front of me in defense and I quickly pulled on his shirt that I'd removed earlier, grateful for its long length.
Instead of me, he'd gotten shards of glasses I'm his skin and he had to start pulling them out as the wounds closed in on them. I pulled out the ones on his sides before he had to go see what caused this.
“Who's there?” He demanded, pulling on shorts immediately from the chair and transforming to his ky'rhan.
I stared in fear and panic as he approached the shattered window. I would have thought we'd hit something or an incoming ship but there were pilots on duty 24/7 so except the entire crew were asleep, that didn't make sense. Also, that first thump made it obvious that this was obvious.
The door burst open and his councilmen rushed in, the room filling up immediately.
“Are we being attacked?” Zyx gasped as he saw the damage in the room.
“Ditto. You all need to spread out, there are various forms of me all over the ship defending but standby just in case I'm not enough,” he commanded and the room emptied again, leaving me and him in the room.
Xy’thern gave Xavier control again, I guess this was a situation that required more mental power than brute force.
“Baby, go to the closet. I just made a safe house for you in there,” he commanded as he got to the window and began patching it up immediately as a large ship, not anywhere near as big as ours rose to the window with war guns trained at us. It had rough, black edges with two massive guns on top of it which were firing at us in different directions. But our ship was very sturdy and strong but then, how long could Xavier keep them at bay while still keeping us safe?
The aliens in the ship remained inside their ship, but they were wearing masks from the small window that let me see their masked faces. That made me more scared than I already was; they obviously had plans to come in here and definitely not for tea.
Suddenly, I felt protective of Xavier, which made no sense because I was the pregnant woman here but then, I was no longer helpless Tessa.
“But I can help. Remember my new powers?” I said, rushing over to him.
He looked at me like I'd grown two heads.
Then as if rethinking, he grabbed my shoulders, looking me in the eyes.
“Baby, I appreciate the help but these are dangerous people, they don't look like they're ready to talk or anything. I've studied different types of alien forms and you don't want to be here, trust me.”
“But… but what if something happens to you? I can't transfer blood to you again because of the baby,” I said, tears already pouring out of my eyes. I angrily wiped them off. This wasn't the right place or time to be an emotional mess.
“Mia Cara, I've been training for this journey my entire life, I'll be fine I promise, okay?” He assured me, his hand raised as if to make sure the window remained intact.
I nodded and began padding off to the closet but then paused as the gun fired towards us, hitting the window hard.
But Xavier had it handled, the fire only making everywhere hot.
Then an idea occurred to me.
“What if I take some of the load of the ship off your mind so you can focus?”
“You're still here?” He asked, annoyance in his tone.
“These people look ready to annihilate us and you definitely need to focus,” I reasoned, hoping he'd allow me help.
He thought it through and breathed deeply.
“You know what? I think you have a point because I'll need to go out there to attack these assholes.”
“That's what I'm saying, you can't spread yourself so thin and still be powering the ship when I'm fully capable of helping. Please let me,” I pleaded.
I would probably go crazy myself if something happened to him or us when I had all these insane powers running through my body and mind.
He nodded and raised another shield on the window like tint so we could see them but the couldn't see us.
“I don't know how much firepower they have and being in different locations right now is draining me fast, so I'll have to rely on you to keep the ship afloat,” he said as he pulled out a key from his chest. Literally.
He then paused, a look of concern crossing his features.
“But are you sure you are ready? Won't this affect the baby?” he asked and I felt that fear too.
This was sudden and out of the blue so we were quite unprepared, never having experienced this; pregnancy and an alien attack. But we would have to get through it, we must, so I lied through my teeth.
“Nothing will happen to me or the baby, we're simply keeping the ship steady while you do all the fighting,” I assured him and he nodded.
He nudged his shirt on me apart and placed the key into my skin, the metal delving into my chest without any resistance.
The moment it sunk home, my mind began adjusting, growing and accommodating the large presence that was now under its control.
It was a lot, a stretch but it felt like finally being in your capacity so it wasn't too much work.
I felt a thrill run through my body and I had to force my eyes open as it was such a wonderful feeling being in my mind and exploring the power dynamics that kept the ship flying.
“Thank goodness, I was scared it wouldn't accept anyone else but I guess she sees you as mine,” he replied, exhaling deeply.
“That's because I am. Please be safe, okay?” I told him. “We will get through this, together.”
“Yes, my love. If it feels too much, find any version of me you see and put back the key. None of this means anything to me without you, so please stay alive and safe, okay?”
“Don't say that baby, nothing will happen to us,” I replied, expelling the fear that culled in my heart.
He grabbed my face, making me look at him. His eyes were blazing with fear. Then he kissed me, my body vibrating with emotions and power.
“Promise me you'll put yourself first, Tessa,” he demanded, leaving no room for argument.
“I promise I'll keep myself and our baby safe,” I said, and he finally let me go.
“Quickly go to the control room. The engineers will help you,” he directed, and I stole one more small kiss from him before rushing off, my heart trying to leap out of my chest.
