CHAPTER NINETY-FOUR
We threw the sleeping powder simultaneously at the thugs that opened the door but it was of no effect because of the masks they had on them.
“Shit!” I muttered, a feeling of extreme panic swallowing me.
“Isn't that King Xavier?” One of them asked as his colleagues began taking off the powder on his mask.
It was impossible and I could see he was getting weaker so he removed it completely.
Our collective pants of breath showed our panic and as they gathered to talk within themselves, not considering us any sort of threat, I picked my phone dialed Corbin's number again.
There was no response.
“What are we going to do? What if they kill us?” Roe said, her fear enveloping us all.
None of us said anything as we waited for them like they weren't carrying bags of whatever they went to steal and weapons.
They began arguing amongst themselves and Rose started pushing Xavier but he wouldn't budge. With each harsh exchange among them in that strange language, our fear heightened.
Then one of them shot a gun I hadn't noticed in the air and we all screamed.
“Get your shit together right now, we need to get out of here. Are we going to take them with us or not?!” The guy screamed, his short tail sprung up.
“We can't just take them without knowing what they did to the King,”
“Hey bitch!” He screamed at me, pointing the gun to my face as tears streamed down my face. “What did you do to the King?!” He yelled at me.
“H..he was gonna hurt us so I put him to sleep so I could escape,”
“You're human filth, if the King decides that you'll die, you'll fucking die!” He clocked the gun.
“Wait! Wait! He doesn't want to kill me! He doesn't want to kill me!” I screamed in terror.
“But you just said –”
“Yes, he was going to hurt us by putting us in a forcefully induced sleep and send us to space with you guys while the earth dies of whatever is plaguing your planet. We just wanted to escape, my friend is pregnant and might die up there!” I explained tearfully.
He took off the gun from my face and turned back to his friends, a smug look on his face probably for being the one to drive out the information from my mouth.
“What are they gonna do to us?” Rose asked
“I don't know Roe, let's just hope they don't kill us, okay?”
“We should have just gone with his plans!”
“Stop acting like that, it's annoying. You are very much pregnant, this whole heist was so you won't be in danger so don't go turning around on Tessa like that!” Anna snapped at her and I turned around in shock.
Roe’s negative comments had been getting to me but I was used to being the bigger person in our friendship. I gave her an apologetic look before focusing on the armed robbers in front of us.
The guy that had nearly blown off my head earlier turned around from their little meeting and came closer to me.
“We're gonna lock you in here so if he takes forever to wake up, you're gonna be in there with him, you hear me?”
“Yes Sir!” I replied, nodding emphatically.
“Good, now give me his wristwatch, that shit will settle us all for life,” he commanded and I remembered the large collection of watches he had and quickly took his wrist and removed it.
I handed it over to him, my shaky hands nearly dropping the watch before he took it and pocketed it.
“Now be a good girl and stay there. You definitely deserve whatever punishment you get for knocking him out like that,” he winked at me and closed the car door harshly.
I watched them enter the shady car I'd seen earlier and drive off in a wild frenzy.
We watched with bated breaths as they left, the fact that I'd nearly died again heavy on my mind. I wish I had remained seventeen.
“What the fuck just happened?” Anna whispered in shock as well.
“We survived another day. Look, I don't know what on earth happened with Corbin but I think we need to get out of here before he wakes up. Does anyone know how to open these doors? They don't look anything like Mom's Van?” I said as I started pressing the buttons on it.
I'd tried that before our altercation with the masked men but it wasn't budging.
“Let me check from his end, it's probably from here. But you need to move him over to you a little bit, my stomach won't let me,” Row suggested and her tone was less angry now than it was earlier.
I nodded and dragged Xavier’s heavy body over to me while Roe fiddled with all the buttons on his side until we heard a click sound on all the doors.
“Thank God!” We exclaimed together with relief.
“But guys wait, are we going to leave him here in the middle of nowhere for random people like that to.. I don't know what they'll do but it just feels weird,” Anna voiced the concern that I'd been stiffling since the beginning of this journey.
“Woah, let's not get sympathetic now, okay? He was going to switch off our brains and turn us into mindless drones just like he'd done to millions of other humans. You don't start feeling sympathy for him now. Besides, didn't you see how they worshiped him? He'll be fine and dandy, we on the other hand, need to leave!” Roe exclaimed, her voice filled with fear.
I looked at Anna through the mirror and we were both confused
“Let's go!” Roe insisted and we came out of the car.
For some reason that I couldn't explain, I took his phone. Maybe I'll be able to figure out where our parents where or something, I just felt the need to have it and I placed it in my pocket before coming down from the car.
“Now that we're out, where are we going and how are we getting there?” Anna asked, her tone sharp.
She didn't like what we'd just done and neither did I but it was either this or we wait for him to wake up, realize how disloyal I was and probably chop off my head. He won't give a fuck that he did it first.
“We need to find the Resistance. We have some information that they probably didn't have,” Anna said, her voice strong.
“And what is that?”
“How they were controlling us,”
“We don't know that,” I stated, wondering what had gotten into her.
“I kind of figured it out. I'll tell you as we go,”
