CHAPTER HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FOUR
The next day, I still didn't feel the urge to get up but I had to when Xavier brought the human girl, accompanied by my best friend and Lisbeth.
“I'll be busy getting the new recruits acquainted with the change in routine as well as working with the engineer ms for that awesome plan of yours,” he said, pecking me before standing up straight. “Let me know if you need anything, okay?”
“Okay baby, have a great day at work,” I responded with a smile.
“No chance of seeing you out here today?” He asked from the door, his voice filled with hope.
“Umm.. I'll think about it,” I replied with a chuckle as he did a funny face before walking away.
Then I turned to my guests.
The new replacement for Theresa was taller than me but her dimples were on full display as she looked around the room, admiring it. While Roe and Brennan were playing on the couch on the other side of the big room.
I coughed a bit, startling the other girl to attention.
“Good morning Your Majesty,” the girl bowed, her freckles beaming in the lighting of the room.
“How are you doing –”
“Elora,” she supplied.
“Elora, nice meeting you. I hope you and I become friends, hm?”
“I'll be so glad to be your friend, Your Majesty,” she replied, a blush coloring her face.
“Great, I don't really need anything now, just write your room number for me on that paper there and I'll ring for you whenever I need you, okay?”
“You don't need me to help you dress up or anything?”
“Oh, not today, I'm taking some time off queen duties,” I replied with a smile, adjusting for Roe to hand Brennan over to me.
She nodded and walked away.
“How are you doing today?” Roe asked me, handing Brennan his stuffed toy. I'd made him a bunch of those while I was basically depressed and they quite ugly so I was repairing them a bit as we talked.
“Uhm, just there. I think I'll try to leave this room soon. It's no longer giving me peace,” I replied wistfully.
“Take your time, giving birth even in normal circumstances is already a pain in the ass. I'll definitely not be as strong as you are if I couldn't hold my baby all the time after giving birth so you are justified for needing time,” she assured me, her words getting through to me. “But hey, don't stay there forever, okay?”
“Thank you Roe, I rarely say this but I'm grateful for this friendship. I'm happy you're flying across the universe with me,” I said with a smile.
She laughed a bit, making my smile wider.
“We're best friends forever, right? Can't effectively do that from two planets now, can we?”
“No we can't. And to make things worse, I've been missing Anna so much. She would have made this ship so lively with her excitement and wit,”
“Being the rulers of earth right now, I'm sure they're doing fine. Stop worrying your head this woman,” I laughed out loud a bit, feeling the worries wash out of me for a bit. I loved spending time with my best friend, I'm able to focus on everything else except myself.
“How's Lisbeth and her crush? I couldn't ask her yesterday, I was a bit out of sorts,” I asked, remembering how tense she was when she had run into him at lunch. Roe had told me the story twice with more excitement than her sister.
She looked at me with a beaming smile.
“He's finally asked her on a date!” She replied, clapping her hands a bit. “She's going crazy with what to wear and everything so I think I'm going to leave Brennan with you and go back before she goes crazy,”
“That's alright. Make sure she looks hot and confident.”
“Will do,” she replied, kissing my cheek enthusiastically, making me laugh. “I'll see you guys soon,” she waved at her baby who was preoccupied with his toys.
I sighed and went back to playing with Brennan while watching Xander. The doctor was going to be in later in the day and I hoped for some good news.
***
The next day, I actually made conscious efforts to wake up early, take a bath, pump milk for Xander and dress up nicely.
I was going to go see my husband in the military hall that he'd built into the ship last week when I felt a tug in my head. At first, I wanted to use the electric bikes but decided to teleport close by and then walk so people won't see me much but when I realized what was happening, I moved into action.
“Xavier!” I screamed in panic, teleporting straight into the room and pushing someone over. “Oh my goodness, I'm sorry. Xavier, an attack!”
“Wait, what?” He exclaimed, looking at me like I was going crazy.
“It's coming from that way, and… oh fuck, it's coming from everywhere. My baby!” I yelled, teleporting back to my room.
“What's going on, Your Majesty?” Elora asked me, her position static as if she'd not moved since I left the room.
“There's an attack coming so run back to your room and hide under the bed!” I commanded her and started looking for a way to unplug the incubator so I could carry my baby.
Elora looked at me like I was crazy, just like everyone else had and I realized I might have to protect Xander from whatever was happening since it's obvious Xavier was only going to believe me when he sees the danger coming.
I moved the incubator to the closet and walked out, looking for a way to conceal the door.
“Honey, what's going on? The entire ship's panicking,” Xavier exclaimed as he popped into the room.
“I can feel it, baby, they're…”
Crack!
The window split into two, setting everyone in motion.
“Fuck, you weren't joking,” he muttered under his breath as he began to repair and put everything under control.
“Of course I wasn't joking. What sort of sense of humor do you think I have?” I yelled back, going back to the closet; only to find a Drakkonian in the closet with my baby in his hand.
I screamed.
