CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE

Everything was fine, then a second later, it was absolute chaos.

A band of soldiers quickly rushed into the small space and barricaded Xavier, building a wall of protection around him as we heard gunshots around the building.

I sat down in the lobby, confused and terrified. I couldn't move and my mind was blank for the first time in my life.

“Tessa!” I heard someone whisper my name harshly, shaking me out of my shock and stupefaction.

It was Marina and she was signaling for me to run over to the barricade of soldiers.

Xavier was on a call, barking orders and I finally stood up to run towards them but someone stopped me.

I turned around and it was Seth.

“Got somewhere to be, little kitten?” He taunted with a smirk.

I peed my pants instantly.

This wasn't like the other times he would threaten or play with me, he had a look of pure anger and hatred directed towards me.

“Look Dad, you have to let her go, okay?” Xavier finally intervened.

“Let her go? I thought you did all of this because you were antsy with all these new powers and just wanted to be king. I didn't mind being the bad guy, in fact, I was actually proud that you'd do something like that. Don't tell me you locked your dear father in a dungeon because of a tiny, brainless human scum?” He growled at his son and I saw Xavier flinch.

“You tried to kill her! Of course I'd have to take drastic steps,”

“Well, I tried before and I didn't succeed but I will remedy that immediately,” he said and grabbed my neck.

I screamed out in pain.

“Stop!” I heard Xavier scream and in another second, the pressure on my neck released and I began coughing.

What was it with this ky’rhan and my neck?

Nobody needed to tell me to run to the protection that those guards offered as I literally flew over, scared he might overpower Xavier and come to get me again.

“Sorry dear, these soldiers are brainless. Protecting someone stronger than all of us put together while abandoning a weak human out there,” Marina said to me while I coughed continuously.

I nodded my appreciation and sat down on the ground, trying to hide myself from the danger outside these doors.

The glass door didn't give me much view of what was happening outside but I knew Xavier was giving his father another ass whooping because of me

As much as I was happy with him defending me, deep down I knew his attitude towards me was about to get worse. After all, the current one was as a result of the last time he put him in a dungeon for trying to off me.

Getting a little bit of courage and honestly, I was just nosy, I got up to see a bit of what was happening. Besides, everyone else looked to be paying rapt attention so I convinced myself it was worth it.

Xavier has morphed to Xy’thern and Seth was bathed in purple blood, the kind that showed he'd been beaten to an inch of his life.

“You want to kill your own father because of that little brat?” I heard Seth scream at Xy’thern but the beast was paying attention to words.

Honestly, I think he prefers talking with his fist instead.

“I have her father!” Seth screamed out in desperation, making my breath halt.

“What did you say?” Xy’thern asked

“I've kidnapped the girl's father and if you kill me, you'll never find her,” he said and I had to sit down on Xavier's chair. I couldn't even revel in the action because it felt like I was floating in a sea of pain and sadness.

My father literally just got his life back and now he's been kidnapped?

“You lying,” Xy’thern growled with disbelief and it made sense that Seth would be saying that just to save his life but something told me this was no prank.

“Call your father,” Marina said, mirroring my thoughts.

I quickly brought out my phone and fumbled with it before finally remembering where the dial button was.

I called my Mom and I was expecting her to waste time as usual but she picked up immediately, sobbing.

“Momma?” I called, my heart racing.

“They took him, Tess. I finally got him back and they took him!” She sobbed, her tears eliciting mine.

I ran out of the room and went to where Xy'thern held his father by the throat, daring him to make any funny moves.

“My mom said Dad has been taken,” I said to him, trembling with unease.

“Did you hurt him?” Xy'thern asked his father.

The man was bloodied and beat up but he still managed to roll his eyes.

“Of course I beat him up. He raised such a stupid excuse of –” he began but a punch shut him up immediately.

“That will be last time you talk crap about my Luminari!” he growled, his words jumping over each other but I dare say his fist delivered the message very well because Seth nodded eagerly.

Xy'thern gave back control to Xavier who pulled out his mobile device.

“Now, I'll call Corbin and you'll tell him where you kept her father. Pray to the old gods that he's still alive or your ashes will be the only part of you going back to Zorvath,” he growled in anger and I could see how all of this stressed him out.

“Momma?” I called, putting the phone back in my ear

She was still crying.

“Yes baby, will he be alright?”

“Yes, Xavier will get him back soon, okay?”

“Alright. I'll be waiting,” she replied and I cut the call.

“He's really stupid coming all the way here to try to hurt you,” Marina said as I sat down.

“It's because Xavier is so fucking confusing. Even I don't really know how he feels about me,” I grumbled and she nodded.

“It's obvious the guards he asked to watch you were working with his father before and fed him that. I wish he'd listen to me and stop showing everyone close to us that he's confused about you,” She said, brushing her colored hair away from her face.

“I just hope my Dad is fine. He's been through a lot,” I whispered, a lone tear taking a journey down my cheeks.

“Head to the creekside near my house….,” he began describing the location for Corbin who was on the other end of the phone.

Xavier dropped the phone on the table and came back inside his office.

“Come,” he called after me and I went to him, feeling so much better when he held my small hand in his big ones.

“Gerald, get the lead chains and get my father tied up so he can be sent back to the dungeons,” he commanded and he looked so hot doing that while protecting me

He directed more soldiers to arrest the ones that had come with his father. He'd killed some at the front door and the thought of it made me shudder.

He sat down and carried me in his lap while giving orders and I've never felt any safer.

As we waited for the news of my father, I prayed again for the second time since I got into this mess. I would be devastated if anything happened to my Dad.
