CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE

**XAVIER'S POV**

Growing up, I'd always questioned the way my father did things and wondered why he didn't take the easier, nicer route. Instead of paying people to do a job, he'd rather threaten them. Instead of normal interrogations, he'd kidnap the person's loved one and send the culprit bits and bits of their bodies until they were saying everything and more.

He always did this, not because he was a king, but because there were no consequences.
I'd started doing the same thing. After all, there was no answer to my questions. It has been working for me so far until I met her.

But I guess mine will always be different.

I'd lost the only thing I'd ever wanted and had, Tessa’s love. The funny part of it all was that I didn't even know I had it until everything was lost. When I'd laid on her lap after the horrible day that I'd had yesterday, my mind began punishing me with images of her looks of longing every time we'd spent in the same space, her standing nearby while I was tested to become King, demanding for me to respect her when I was being an asshole in other to push her way and every time my cock plunged deep into her pussy. She always found a way to make my life better as much as she could.
And I went right ahead and ruined it by going through the extreme path I was used to, and now the consequences were making me miserable.
As I swooped in on the location where he'd last been seen, I wondered if it was worth it, killing my own father.

His existence had cost me so much, the entire kingdom was standing on the precipice of falling, my shoulders hurting from holding them back.

Everyone was holding their breaths. If I didn't capture my father and put him to death, he'd blurt out our most important secrets to the humans and we'd lose our authority over them.
They'd studied these beings before coming down here and once the tides are switched, no single ky’rhan would be able to escape their wrath.
It was one of the reasons I insisted on us leaving even if I caught my father on this fool's errand.

I was going only because Corbin gave me the location himself, otherwise, I was honestly done with chasing cold trails. Everything Tessa said about him flashed through my mind but I refused to give it thought, much to Xy’thern’s displeasure.

He was obsessed with Tessa now and would take everything she said, hook, line and sinker, and I wasn't going to destroy years of our friendship because she wanted to save her sister.

I walked into the safe house, I'd used my powers to destroy the security system in it and walked into the place.

As they ransacked the property, I decided to take a sweep of it myself. Something still told me that the traitor in my ranks was closer than I'd thought.
I just needed to pay more attention to details.

The first corridor led to an expansive hall with different gadgets inside, as well as my father's beat up form, lying on the ground.

“Your Majesty, his tongue has been torn out!” A guard reported, making me frown.
That was definitely a sign that this was an inside job. A shiver ran through my body at how close I was to finding out who this person was.

“Do we kill him? He's quite useless now,” Brock asked me, standing over the ky’rhan that used to command armies but was now reduced to a quivering mess.
“No, take him to the car. If anything happens to him, everyone of you will die,” I commanded, just in case the traitor was with me here and had hoped I'd kill him on sight.

“But the people…” Brock countered.

“The people would want to know who the traitor here is, wouldn't they?” I snapped.
On a normal day, I would have been open to suggestions from my team but in that moment, I couldn't trust anyone.

I watched as they moved him out of the room and I shot a message to the doctor in my mansion to get an emergency room ready for him so he could be stabilized before being operated on in the bigger hospital.

“Take him home immediately,” I commanded Brock as I continued looking around the scene.

I teleported through the three storey building, sniffing through Xy’thern's nose for anything out of the ordinary.

There was a familiar scent in here but I couldn't place my fingers on it.
I walked over the hall where we'd seen him again, looking through all the media gadgets to see if there was anything recoverable.
It had all been burned but I still ransacked through it, hoping to find some form of evidence.

As I lifted the big box that the cameras had been burned in, I turned it upside down, several burnt cameras falling out along with a phone.
I dropped everything immediately and went for it.

The phone was mine and I'd lost it the day Tessa put me to sleep in order to run away.

Unknown to me, her words had taken a deep root in my heart even though my mind refused to accept it.
Then I flicked open the phone and it was partially blind from the burning.

I drew into the power that cooled in my stomach and held the device super tight.
It was the same energy that'd fuel the mother ship as we sailed across the galaxy to our own home.
The phone became whole again.

I pocketed it, I was going to focus on it some other time, but I was prepared to do anything to find out who was responsible for this betrayal and I'll find out who that was before tonight.

Afterward, I was going to take my people home. Hopefully, I wouldn't have to use extreme measures to take her with me. I wasn't dealing well with the consequences of my previous actions.
I just didn't know any other way.
