CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN
I mean, who does that? Grab someone who's livid and angry and wipe away their thoughts with his delicious mouth. He'd kissed me for a long minute, my body charged and needy for him. When he disconnected his lips from mine, I couldn't form a single thought for a second, especially with his one dimpled smile caressing my eyes.
As I ate my food, well tried too, all I could think about was that kiss.
And well, he promised to rescue my best friend but most especially the kiss resonated through my head and made me dizzy with lust and confusion.
Were we real now or was this just a part of his dramatic back and forth?
“Tessa, what's wrong, you've barely touched your food. Mom said Daddy is recovering already so you don't need to worry,” Anna said to me and I smiled at her innocence.
If only she knew what was going through my mind.
“You see? Tomorrow, you can spend the whole day there and all,” Xavier interjected with a wicked smile.
I hated how he knew the effect he had on me. It made him a little bit cocky so I quickly wiped the thoughts of him shirtless, his perfect abs free for me to explore away from my mind as I focused on my food.
I couldn't even eat that much because my emotions were all over the place so I went to bed early, cuddling up with a fictional novel with the type of imaginary man that wouldn't give me whiplash with his confusing actions.
I knew he'd mentioned we'd be sleeping together until his father was found but somehow, I expected him to walk into my room like he owned the place, which he actually did but he didn't have to act all bossy twenty four seven.
I was invested in the story when I heard a knock on my door, and my blood pressure went a bit too high for my liking.
Now that I didn't have much against him except his attitude towards me, it was getting more difficult convincing my heart he wasn't one to be loved or even trust. I mean, he could be amazing one minute and then flip over the next.
I mean I can't even believe I was married to the guy!
Anyways, I opened the door and it was Anna. My face must have shown my unreasonable disappointment because she noticed.
“Bad timing?”
“No, of course not. Come in,” I ushered her in.
“I can't believe Dad actually got kidnapped by your crazy father in law,” she said as jumped on the bed.
“I can't even imagine how Mom must be feeling in the midst of all this. One moment we're celebrating a wedding and the next, we're in tears because of said wedding. Even I am tired of it?” I vented, my fingers running through my head in frustration.
“Don’t worry, we'll figure it all out. But hey! What's up? How's it being ‘queen’?” She asked with the finger air quotes and a smile.
“Don't even remind me. It's been barely two days and I'm already flopping,” I groaned as I sat on the bed with her.
“There's no way you're gonna figure everything out overnight. Just give it time,” she said with a small smile.
“Oh look at you being all grown up and shit. How's your lil boyfriend?” I teased her and she went red like a ripe tomato.
“No, he's not! We're just friends. For now,” she replied quietly, her eyes everywhere but on mine.
“Aww, is my little sis in lllooovvveee?” I tickle her, our laughter ricocheting around the big room.
“But what about you? Any progress on mister hot and cold?” She asked after we quieted down.
I sighed.
“He's still hot and cold, I guess it's got something to do with their alien DNA but I discovered something today,” I started, looking at her reaction.
“Oh, what is it?” She said, propping up the pillows to lay back.
“Well, you know how we always thought he was responsible for… Brendan?” I began, my words getting choked up in my throat.
“Yea, he literally came on air and acted like their lives didn't matter. I still can't reconcile that douchebag with the man that just hands you his black card so you can shop for your little sister. Maybe he finally felt a twinge of guilt and was trying to buy our forgiveness?” She said, exasperated.
“He didn't do it,”
“Wait, what?” She sat up in surprise.
“Yea. His father did and then did this AI thingy that made it look like him. Seems everything is a power play to the asshole,”
“Wow. Why didn't he say anything all these while? We were just hating on him like extra hard and he could have made things a little bit easier for you. You were feeling so guilty for liking him,” she said, and I hugged her, my eyes getting teary.
“It's okay. I guess everything happens for a reason. I mean, what if I'd completely fallen for him then and he still did this whole flipping thing because his father tried to, yunno,” I said, my hands reaching up to clear my eyes from the fountain that was about to flow down.
“You've got a point. You know what? You can do exactly what I'm doing with Teslim. Putting my heart on lock and just going with the flow,” she said and one would think she's the big sister here.
“Teslim, huh?” I winked at her blushing cheeks.
“Seriously! We're just friends, I swear!” I shouted, a small smile playing on her lips.
“I hear you, you don't have to bring down the roof. Now, is anyone still stressing you out?”
“Naa, my sister is the fucking queen! I'm cool now,” she said, dancing a little bit.
“Yea, that's right. I'm a queen and I'm going nowhere,” I boasted, our laughter putting my mood in the best it's ever been in days.
“You love being queen, don't you?” I heard Xavier’s voice and our laughter turned to screams of shock and surprise.
“Jeez! Why can't you know like a normal person?” I shouted at him, my heart doing that weird thing it does around him.
“Cause I don't need to,” he answered smugly.
“Okay, um, I'll head on to bed. See you bright and early tomorrow morning, Sis,” Anna said, excusing herself from the suddenly tense atmosphere.
“Thanks for coming in Anna. I needed that. And by the way, you're helping me decorate my room later, okay?”
“There won't be any need for that, you're coming back to our bed,” Mr grumpy grumbled from behind me.
“Okay, that's my cue to disappear,” Anna said and literally speed walked away from the room
“Traitor!” I whisper-yelled at her laughing ass.
“What do you mean coming back? Whose idea was it to move over here?”
“Mine,” he replied matter of factly.
“And now you're dragging back to your room just because you feel like it,”
“Yea. Is there any problem with that?” He asked calmly.
“Xavier, do you even see me as a living, reasoning human being? I mean, why are you always blowing hot one minute and colder than Antarctica in the next one?” I asked him, exasperated with his antics.
“How do you know about that place?” He asked me with a frown.
“Duhh, it's part of the seven continents before you guysss…” I stopped before realizing what I was saying was information that I wasn't supposed to have access to.
Shit, I think I just put my Dad in some serious trouble.
