CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-ONE

TESSA'S POV

The day after we landed, the entire planet was gathered for their new leaders, not physically of course.

But there was a public holiday and we had all the generals reinstated as regional heads, just like always.

The former king was locked up in prison but the twin, Koi, had been extremely helpful, surprising us.

I would have expected him to be more upset, considering we'd just take power from his brother and, indirectly, him.

“You could have killed him, but you were nice enough to keep him alive, and I'm grateful for that,” he said when Xavier asked him why he was being so nice. “So whatever you need, as a token of my appreciation, I'll help in whatever way I can.”

He wasn't what we were expecting which was a disabled ky'rhan. I should have known that was wrong, considering they were all nearly perfect creatures – tall, blue,, and with a very useful tail.

Instead, he was short and had a bit of a klutz, tripping over nonexistent things and he spoke quite fast.

It seemed his brain was faster than his body which made no sense to me.

If he was the smarter one of the two, why wasn't he the king?

I guess the ky'rhan’s species' obsession with power was the reason.

But still, they made him out to be useless to the throne but with each second we spent around him, it was obvious he actually ran this show.

But I swallowed my reservations, it wasn't the place or time to dig deeper.

I just have no idea why he was so complacent with everything happening.

He was currently giving us a tour of the magnificent palace he and his brother used to live in. They kept minimal staff and preferred to live alone.

“If you want to change that, it's perfectly fine, we just liked to be able to be normal Ky'rhans when we were in our own home rather than keeping up the air of rulership. It can be exhausting,” he said as he showed us the servant quarters filled with humans only.

Being among more Ky'rhans than I'd ever seen was a bit overwhelming and their hatred of clothes made things worse.

Xavier and I had decided not to antagonize the ky'rhan by questioning their methods, at least not yet. We would learn everything first before making changes.

From what we were seeing, they had intercepted the humans sent here by Seth and then Xavier all the while, but instead of continuing the SOS experiment like had been expected, they turned them into slaves.

The humans were Seth's way of trying to create a bridge between the two planets but most importantly, gathering information. He sacrificed humans not caring what happened.

I shook my head off the thoughts, he was dead now and we were more focused on creating a planet where humans were treated properly.

I could already anticipate the drama that would trail that decision as the ky'rhans won't be onboard with that idea.

But I wasn't that weak queen anymore; they would respect my people, and that was final.

We went back to the long flight of stairs and I added it to my mental note to get our engineers working on an elevator.

I can teleport, but it was just Xavier and I, everyone else, including servants, would have to climb these every day.

Although it made them really fit, we would simply replace that with compulsory morning training across the planet.

“This is where my brother used to stay so I guess you'll be staying here now,” he said as he opened the door to a lavish bedroom.

But hanging next to the bed was a long sword and above it was the head of an animal.

I didn't know what it was, but its teeth were on display, and they were scary to look at.

I guess they were difficult to kill and he was proud of the accomplishment, hence the hanging it atop his bed. Whoever was unfortunate enough to have sex with him must love the missionary position more than anything else.

“I don't think we'll take it. We're already taking everything from him, he can keep it,’ Xavier said, expressing my exact thoughts.

When he wasn't being an ass, he was the perfect husband.

His hands had held mine all through the three-hour tour and he had kept insisting on us taking breaks about four times even though I was not feeling tired.

“Thank you. I've never seen power and kindness exist in one creature before. It's a shocking sight,” Koi said, a genuine smile passing through his face.

“Having power of this magnitude, you're faced with so many choices that people forget kindness is a part of the list. My Luminari here opened my eyes to that, so you can thank her for allowing me to love her,” he replied to him, squeezing my hands.

“Forgive my intrusion but she's not human even though she looks like them. I know the other two girls are from neighboring planets but I can't place her species,” he asked, making me smile.

“I'm completely human, Koi. My union with Xavier gave me these abilities and I've spent the entire trip here assimilating to its reality. I'm as shocked as everyone else,” I replied to him with a smile.

“That's strange. We've been studying human-ky’rhan relationships for three centuries now, and nothing of this sort has ever happened. We simply become more…. feeling and considerate, and sometimes, the ky'rhan develops powers, but this is strange.”

“Well, I'll tell you one thing, everything about her is special and different, so if anyone would be the odd one out, it's definitely going to be my Tessa,” Xavier answered, making me giddy.

We were definitely going to spend the rest of the day in each other's company with how sweet he was being.

Ruling this planet didn't seem like an easy feat anyway so we might as well take a few hours break before the party starts.

“I think that's all there is for now,” Koi replied after showing us the stables which was their means of transportation as well.

It was obvious they'd spent most of their advancement on just security and housing; everything else seemed backward and outdated.

Our work was definitely cut out for us.
