CHAPTER HUNDRED NINETY-FOUR

I'd thought we'd walk to the venue, but a huge car rolled around the entrance to the door, and he opened the door for us to enter.

The three women got in first and then I entered.

He shut the door and walked to the front and began driving.

Inside, the car was like a limousine, but it was bigger, and everybody had their own table in front of them, so we didn't have to press into each other.

Which was great because these gowns were horrible and uncomfortable, if we were in each other's space, there'd be a lot of problems.

“What planet are you from?” The smaller, quiet girl asked me, her eyes carrying a sadness in them that almost drowned me. She was sitting across from me and was wearing a pink frock like mine, although mine was black and some flowers added to make it less dreary.

“You shouldn't be talking to her!” The green Saree girl snapped at her.

I saw a flash of fear pass through her eyes and I suspected they must bully her a lot.

“I'm from a planet called Earth. What about you?” I replied, ignoring the look the other girl threw me.

I know the general didn't love any of them, so if she actually tried getting physical with me, I wouldn't kill her, obviously, but she'd learn a lesson or two about being kind to people.

The girl perked up at me answering her gently and and her eyes lit up a bit.

“I'm from a far planet on the other side of the universe called Pelagia. It's ninety percent water,” she answered me, her voice a little louder than the last time.

“So everyone on your planet can swim?” I asked, interested.

“Obviously dummy! How else would they survive on a planet almost filled with water?!” The other girl snarled.

I took a deep breath and took the girl's hand.

“We're going to pretend they're not here, okay?” I told her calmly, hoping she'd play along.

“You dare not listen to her!” The dark makeup girl snarled at her, and I gave her a dark look. She was grating on my nerves, and I was about to show her why I wasn't to be toyed with, but she quickly averted her eyes.

Thankfully, the girl nodded and took in a shaky breath. My mind nearly went crazy with the level of pain she must have gone through for her to be this scared.

“Almost everyone can because we're born with gills,” she replied, and her eyes began to water.

“You weren't?”

“Yeah, that's why I was sold off to prevent the general from razing our planet to the ground,” she whispered.

It was obviously a sore spot for her, so I didn't dig in further, and I decided to change the topic.

“What's your name?”

“Lily.”

“That's a pretty name. Mine is Tessa, but you can call me Tess.”

Ignoring the slight jabs by the other two miserable girls, we had a gentle conversation until the car stopped at a building that was designed just like his own, only bigger.

The general opened his car door, and I went to open mine, but Lily shook her head at me.

“He's obsessed with opening car doors for us,” she whispered just as he proudly swung the door open and held a hand out for me.

I ignored it and walked out, although difficult with the clothes I wore but I managed.

He chuckled and went to help the others until all four of us were standing in a row.

“Welcome to the Central Palace,” he announced, definitely for my benefit and held a hand for me again.

“You have three other women to choose from, General. You can postpone your humiliation ritual till another time, please?”

He sighed and shook his head and went ahead to hold green and yellow, leaving me to hold Lily as we trailed after them.

The moment we walked in, the party was already in full swing.

Alcohol was definitely a universal language because I could see that a lot of the men were drunk already.

He took us through the throng of men cheering him on like he'd accomplished something special because of the four women behind him.

Finally, we got to his father and they hugged tightly as though they'd not seen each other earlier today.

The sight made me remember Seth. Somehow, I was grateful he was a terrible father to Xavier because if he wasn't, he would have groomed him to be just like Aisen, destroying everything in his path just to please the ky'rhan.

When they finally let go of themselves, he moved back and all the women fell on their knees immediately, forcing me to step back in shock.

Aisen brought out the remote control, and I had the mind to just say fuck it, at least I'd finally get to sleep, but there were drunken men around me.

I didn't trust them one bit so with a dramatic eye roll, I went on my knees, slowly.

The moment I was down, the entire room erupted in cheers and claps, shocking me.

I looked around and wished I could put a viral disease in each of their brains so they die a slow and painful death but I shook my head of such dreary thoughts.

I used to be an innocent, happy girl.

Now I was an angry mother who was always thinking of killing an enemy.

The king waved his hand at us and the girls struggled to get up.

Aisen watched them struggle for a bit before going to help them out.

With a shit-eating grin on his face, he led us to a booth where we sat, watching the men get drunk and eat meat like animals.

Finally, a hot meal was served and I dug in with gusto.

As the party went on, an idea began to form in my head.

Well, not an original one but I remembered Taiwan and Anna building a website for books that liberated humans from the Nectar of the gods that kept us under the thumb of the ky'rhans.

Instead of a general knowledge, I'll simply show the seed of feminism among them.

Maybe I'll start with Lily.
