CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-THREE
TESSA'S POV
I was startled awake by sudden movement and I realized it was Xavier waking up.
As he groaned and rubbed his eyes like a child, I remembered how I'd gradually fallen for him.
His face, his smile and the way his obvious manliness both turned me on and made my heart flutter.
But then he had to go and ruin everything.
When he woke up completely, he looked at his wristwatch and back at me.
“Will your family be coming with us or just you?” He asked me, making my heart palpitate.
I know I promised to leave with him but I didn't know he was actually going to make me.
“Do I have to?”
“What do you mean? You're my Luminari, I can't live without you; quite literally and not just that, you're pregnant for my child and the future of my species. I need you there with me,” he said, his scrunched up brows showing his confusion.
“But I'm human, if my family refuses to come with me, I'll never see them again for the rest of my life. Besides, you have been kidnapping humans and shipping them off to other places for slavery, what's the assurance that I won't be meeting the same date?” I vented, making sure I didn't look at him or I might lose my train of thoughts.
“Mia Cara, you worry too much. I've thought about all of these things since I found out you knew my secrets and I promise to show you every single human that has left this place and their location. No one is maltreating them, in fact, they're going to live a better life in Zorvath, I promise. And it's really best your family comes with us, you might not be able to come down here for another five years,”
I looked into his eyes, confused and shocked. Did he really mean that? If humans were being treated well, maybe he has a heart somewhere in there that was working.
I called myself back, realizing how fast I was falling for his lies again. I'd done that before, believing every single word out of his mouth but he'd just shown me how much he could do to get what he wanted.
“Okay, but you're going to leaving a vacuum here and this world would need a strong hand to guide it in the aftermath of this chaos. I can do that or help whoever it is,” I begged, hoping he'd simply reconsider but deep down, I knew the conversation was useless.
“Yea, I'll let Corbin stay back for a few years before coming back,” he replied, waving his hand dismissively.
“Corbin? No, please don't do that. Instead, let the humans figure a way out and create their own government. Just don't leave either him or Seth here. It won't end well,” I begged him.
“I still don't understand your problem with Corbin but if that's what it'll take to end this conversation, fine, I won't leave him here. Satisfied?”
“Yes, I'll go inform my family about this,” I replied, getting up from the bed. “Please help me check if Anna is back yet.”
“They're all in the dungeons. I'll tell a guard to let her out. She'll be with you soon.”
I nodded and made to walk away but he held my hand, pausing me in my tracks.
“Did I completely ruin us?” He asked, making me confused.
“What do you mean?”
“Can we ever go back to the way we where? I really miss us.”
“I'm not interested in all of that. I'm pregnant for your child and that's all this would ever be,” I stated, leaving no room for argument.
I snatched my hand away from his and walked out, ignoring the look of hurt on his face.
I quickly rushed to the dungeon, hoping a guard had already let them out before I got there.
“Tessa!” She yelled from the beginning of the stairs that led down to the cells. My face lit up at the sight of her. She was here and she didn't look hurt.
I ran to meet her halfway and I hugged her, my excitement rising.
“Thank goodness, you're safe.”
“They nearly killed us but suddenly stopped and asked us to surrender. What did you do?” She asked as we walked back up.
“Its like they always say, I made a deal with the devil.”
“What do you mean? I'm confused,”
“The two of them kept wanting something in return for letting you live. Corbin is an asshole, that is certain. Xavier on the other hand insists he needs me wherever he's going to and would only end the operation if I was going with him to Zorvath. I'm going to call Rose when I'm done with Mom and Dad. Maybe she'll like to come because of her child,” I explained.
It seemed to hit her hard and she held my hand tightly.
“I think I have feelings for Taiwan,” she blurted and I looked at her, a smile creeping on to my face.
“Aww, look at you. Does he know?”
“I don't know… but I kinda want to find out where it'll lead to,”
“So I take it you won't be coming with me?” I asked, sadness enveloping me.
I'd thought I could count on her among anyone else to be with me but I guess she had her own journey to go on and I needed to stop dragging her through my own hell.
She nodded right as we got to our parent's room in the mansion.
I had asked a guard to direct me. I guess they'd began living here after the whole raid. Where else would they have gone? I guess this would piss off his step mother if she found out.
I knocked before opening the door and Anna went in first.
The excitement at seeing her was palpable in the room.
“Thank heavens you're alive! I was scared Tessy had gone and delivered you to the wolves!” my mom gushed
Anna looked at me and I knew she was expecting a different reaction, just as I had too.
“But Momma, none of this was her fault,” Anna replied.
“Let us not go into all of that right now please,” my Dad interrupted as though he had a headache and all of this was making it worse.
“I need to talk to you guys about something,” I said and the room went silent.
