CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

It was my wedding day and the only part of it that excited me was seeing my father on his feet.

Immediately I got downstairs, I saw him standing at the doorway, in a suit and a smile I'd thought was long gone plastered on his face.

“Dad!” I screamed in excitement.

“Oh Tessa, I can't thank you enough for this,” he said to me but I didn't even let him finish and I ran to him, hugging him tightly.

“I'm so happy you actually get to walk me down the aisle. I'd thought the doctor still wanted you to give it time before trying to walk,”

“He's recovered quickly, to everyone's surprise. We didn't know they had advanced technology like that,” my Momma says and I finally noticed her.

She was wearing a pretty pink dress with little petals designed on it.

I hugged as well before replying.

“Don't worry, I'll see to it that things begin to change. That's the whole point of me doing this,” I assured them.

“I really hope so. We're getting some weird stares from people that we've known all our lives and I'm beginning to wish we'd taken the opportunity to move over here but I fear we might not fit in either,” she expressed sadly.

My Momma was a people's person. If the world was saner, she'd be a politician or something. She was always helping to put smiles on people's faces with the little she had.
It hurt to see those same people treat her weirdly just because she got given a better life.

I understand the feeling of betrayal but I was already doing all I can to make sure everyone gets a piece of the pie but I guess it was impossible to please everyone. Even Xavier who was their unofficial King was getting backlash for something beyond his control

“You look so pretty, Mama. Look at your color! So refreshed,” I complimented, making her blush and My Dad burst out laughing.

“Now, young lady, today is your wedding day and you're not dressed?” My Momma reprimanded.

“I'm sorry, it's all happening so fast. And I slept in, I didn't even know I was allowed to do that. Oh, I just remembered I sacked Theresa. I'll go find Anna to help me with my dress,”

“I'll come with you. Who knows when you two will be done if left to your devices,” my Mom said and she kissed her husband before coming with me to find Anna.

When we got to her room, she was already dressed and as she saw me, I could see the shock on her face immediately she saw my state.

“Wait, did I miss something? Aren't you getting married anymore? The Steward has been on everyone's neck about being early and yet you're undressed. Where's Theresa?”

“I told her to go so we came to get you to help me get dressed,” I informed with a smile

She looked so beautiful.

“Oh, finally. I thought you were going to keep the dual faced bitch around but this is terrible timing. Let's go get you ready, we're late already,” she announced and ushered us out of her room.

She had begun decorating the place and it looked lived in already. Our family pictures were all over the place but I could see she was doing more shopping each day, courtesy of Xavier's Black Card.

Things like these were dreams that we never imagined possible but seeing the joy it brought to my family made me hate him a little bit less.

“I don't even understand the rush. Wasn't this wedding scheduled for next week?” My Momma grumbled as we stepped out of the elevator.

“Yea but something happened and he had to move it up but for the record, I do agree that this was too fast. He could have given us a day at least but I guess that's how the rest of my life is going to be, I don't have any way in it,” I said with a sad smile.

“Well, we don't have much of a choice but to make you the most gorgeous bride the planet has ever seen!” Anna gushed as we walked into the room.

“Oops!” My sister exclaimed, turning around with my mom and I looked into the room to see what they were running from.

Surprisingly, Xavier was in the room and he was fully dressed, meanwhile I looked like I'd just woken up from a long nap.

After our bathing moment yesterday, he'd reverted back to his human form and disappeared, leaving me naked in the bathroom like I'd offended him.
Although I was happy nothing else happened, it just felt weird having to be abandoned in the middle of a somewhat romantic moment.

This was my first sight of him ever since. He was shocked to see me and I was actually tired of everyone being shocked at my state of undress. This wedding wasn't my idea so maybe they could have been more enthusiastic about getting me ready to walk down the aisle.

“You're not dressed? Where's Theresa? No wonder I've been getting so many calls from Bernard and the glam team. What's going on?” he gushed and I could see him getting angrier but for some reason, it was just him.
Normally, every slight show of anger from him created blue hairs which depended on how angry he was but right now, it seemed he'd leashed Xy’thern.

I didn't pay attention to it because he was staring at me, expecting a response.

“I let Theresa go, I don't need someone who changes loyalty so fast being close to me. I've seen what happens with people like that and I didn't know there was a glam team. I woke up a few minutes ago,” I explained.

“It's our wedding, Tessa. The least you could do is show a little bit of interest. They're in the next room and you'll have to resolve whatever tiff you have with Theresa, she's not going anywhere,” he said dismissively.

“What do you mean? This is about your old lover, right? Look, I don't want her to attend to me anymore. Why will you force me to?” I exclaimed in shock.

He paused and gave me an irritated look. It was like a totally different version of Xavier was here and I didn't know how to deal with it.

“Look, there's no time for petty issues like this. We're fitting a wedding and coronation in the same day because I've other important things to do so get busy. You have less than an hour to be ready, don't be late,” he snapped before walking out of the room hastily, leaving me stunned and speechless.

I didn't want to dwell in it, deciding to just do as he says and focus on getting today behind me.

I got to the room where everyone was waiting for me, including Theresa and I sat down while they all ran around trying to make me a pretty bride.

But all through the process, I just felt dread in my stomach because it felt like I was about to unleash a can of worms.
