CHAPTER HUNDRED AND SIXTY-NINE
Three agonizing hours later – since I got the key to the ship, I had an annoying clock in my brain, ticking – I finally pushed out my baby, the pain nearly killing me.
The epidural didn't work, instead, Xy’thern had to be put down for the doctor and nurses to come anywhere near me. While pain racked my body, I had to hold him tightly while Doctor Memphis injected him with it. It took the doctor fifteen minutes to be roused from fainting as Xy’thern had zapped him up real good in retaliation.
“Oh finally! This has been the most chaotic birth of my career,” Nurse Amara gushed as the baby was handed over to her, his cries echoing around the room.
“He's going to be the king of Zorvath one day,” Roe replied to her, “so of you, his birth will be eventful. Please clean up quickly,” she added and went around the room, like a caring mother.
As I felt hollow inside, all I could do was think about my family.
My mom would have been all over me with my Dad hovering by my side while Anna is fascinated with the new born.
I felt homesick and my tears poured out without a hold.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Roe rushed to my side, evading the nurses that were trying to clean me up as much as possible. “He's healthy now, and in a month, he'll be out of the incubator, perfectly fine, okay? Don't cry please,” she cooed, cleaning my tears.
Maybe I'd become numb to the pain or the drugs were finally working but all I could feel was the extreme sadness of probably never seeing them again.
“I miss my Mommy,” I wailed into her open hands, ignoring all the noise in the room until I heard Xavier’s confused voice.
“She's going to get that prickly feeling at the back of our spine to show that our lineage has been extended so don't you worry, they'll all be missing you too. Beside, this is simply a five year experience. We'll see how earth survives and we'll go back again, okay?” Roe comforted me, ever the perfect friend.
She wasn't always joyous or cheery but she was sturdy and reliable and I will always love her for that.
Then I heard my baby's cry as they brought him to me and laid him in my arms, his eyes opening and those beautiful blue eyes of his father blinking at me as he quited down.
“He's so perfect,” I heard my husband's voice and I looked up, tears springing out of my face again. “You've made me a true King, my love. You're strong and perfect in every way and you make my life so much better and easier. Thank you for this gift, Tessa. We'll love him with every fiber of our being,” he echoed, his hands touching my face lovingly before carrying our baby from my hand.
“Xander Corvius Seth,” Xavier said out loud, naming our baby with pride and I quickly turned to look at them.
My emotions were all over the place but seeing the man I loved with our child made me feel butterflies in my now empty stomach.
Then it made an embarrassing sound, shocking me but everyone in the room acted like I'd simply just breathed. It was such a relief not to be judged in any way.
“Guys you need to be fast in cleaning her up, she's healing too quickly,” Roe commanded as she'd done throughout the process of this birth.
“Yea, and make sure the incubator is ready, he's looking shaky a bit,” Xavier added, and I knew I wouldn't wish to be these nurses and doctor in this room.
But I guess being the chosen ones to deliver the royal baby was a privilege so maybe it was the consequence for that honor.
The door burst open and Zyx and a few other council members rushed in, excitement in their tones.
“Sorry, we couldn't wait any longer,” Lyra-en apologized as they crowded around the incubator, looking at my perfect, tiny baby who had been through so much.
Each time I remember what I put him through, I hold myself back from blaming myself. None of this was intentional and I'll make sure he's protected from every vileness this world throws at him or me. And I knew Xavier will cut off every hand that tries to hurt him in any way.
“It's alright, I can feel the ship’s excitement in my bones even though I don't control it anymore,” I replied, giving her a strained smile.
I was feeling so sleepy.
“He's so cute, tiny, but so cute,” Laid gushed and I could already tell, he'd have these men wrapped around his tiny fingers.
Roe rushed over to me with some strange stuff.
“Alright, if you're not here husband, a woman or a doctor, poof!” She commanded, her tone making me chuckle but the sound went straight to my chest, hurting a bit.
“Yes Ma'am,” Zyx replied, shaking his head as they walked out, waving at me.
“What's going on?” I asked in confusion.
“It's breast pumping, we need you to do that as often as possible,” a nurse explained behind me.
My eyes and Xavier clashed as I brought out my left boob from the hospital gown I was in, a thrill running around my body.
I smiled and resumed listening to Roe as she explained the mechanism and timing of it.
“Thank you, Roe,” I said, pausing her mid sentence. “You're the best friend anyone could ever ask for and you show up for me, support me and care for me. I love you so much,” I finished, cleaning away the spurt of milk on her cheek from when I was trying to fit it in
Zyx then opened the door again, Xavier’s growl trailing him.
“I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I just wanted to ask you something your highness!” He exclaimed as he shut the door.
“Bastard,” Xavier growled under his breath and went out to meet him.
“I'm sorry, I just wanted you to know we've got three Draks in the interrogation room but we can't imprison then and they're getting quite rowdy and difficult to control," Zyx reported, reminding me of why we were here in the first place.
If anything happens to my child, I'll find whatever planet those bastards came from and raze it to the ground.
