CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR
I came across a phrase in one of the new novels I'd discovered in Xavier's extensive, free to read library that said ‘curiosity killed the cat' and as I walked into the vault-like room, that phrase kept ringing in my head.
I felt pretty alarmed walking into somewhere that was obviously off limits but was I going back like a good girl?
Naa, I'mma see what's hiding in here even if it kills me. I hope I have nine lives like those cats too.
At first, there was nothing out of the ordinary, just a couple of files on different tables in the dimly lit room.
I wondered again why someone would have left the door ajar like that and alongside the other concerning thought of where my guards went.
But I shoved them aside when I saw a file that had a boldly stamped “CONFIDENTIAL” in red and I rushed to it.
I saw pictures attached with numbers of different people, humans and at first, I thought they were reports from the consensus they did every year but then, why would it be confidential?
Those were done just to keep us in line, nothing special about it.
I dropped it and looked around, seeing more of them with the same red stamps all over them and once I opened them, it was filled with humans only, no ky’rhans, not even the XYZ who were also counted in the consensus.
I heard footsteps down the hallway and I quickly dropped everything and ran out, thankfully, it was another robot.
This one was male and he had piercing brown eyes. Whoever was making these things had an eye for beauty.
“Your Majesty, this way please,” he asked but I knew the commanding undertone meant I had no choice but to follow.
“Take me to the King's office,” I said to him even though I doubted he'd change directions that were programmed into it.
Thankfully, it seemed he was actually sent to get me and he took me to the stairs I'd remembered and finally into Xavier's office.
“Where did you run off to?” He demanded with a hint of anger in his voice.
This was more than his usual hostility. Did he actually fear that I'd run away?
“I got lost on my way here, I needed to come ask Marina something,” I explained matter of factly.
“And you couldn't call when you got lost? Did you think I bought that phone for you for fancy?” He shouted, doing the same thing I'd asked him to stop doing by openly berating me in front of his staff.
These people already hate humans and then he made me a queen, making them hate me more and now he's showing them that the position meant nothing and I can be treated anyhow without actual consequences.
“I don't have your number,” I told him and I actually didn't, I just relished in the feel of the shocked faces around me.
Yes, his guards, his personal assistant and his visitor were all aware that I didn't take him as my master and the love of my soul and it gladdened my heart.
He then stretched his hand out to me.
“What?” I snapped in confusion.
“Your phone, dummy!” The man replied to me in such a demeaning tone and I gasped.
My mouth opened wider in shock when Xavier punched the man in the face, squarely.
The man had large hands so not only was his nose broken, his teeth too and I heard alien teeth never grew back.
“Don't you ever speak to my wife in that manner again!” He screamed at the imbecile.
Is it hot in here or was that my raging hormones again?
The man was on the ground coughing his guts out and I watched as everyone else in the room sat up, their perspective changing a little bit.
It was stupid but being the only one who was allowed to mistreat me seemed like a special position, I don't know why.
I stamped out that stupid thought and toughened up my face.
If he expected to get a pat on the back for defending me when he was the actual cause of the man's disrespect, then he had another thing coming.
Still, I handed him the phone and he punched in his number with his bloody finger, his face a beautiful layer of hardened rock.
“Call me anytime you want to, alright?” He commanded.
“Okay. Um, was there a reason you were looking for me? I actually wanted to ask Marina about something,” I asked him.
“Yes, where are your guards? I haven't seen any status reports from them in a while,” he asked me and I don't know why it was just occuring to me but not only were these guards protecting me but they were his informants.
I felt a mix of emotions, one of them sadness. I was never leaving this man even if I developed the courage to. He had people who would tell him how many times I breathed in a day.
“I don't know where they are. I thought you'd called them to your office or something,” I replied.
“No. You can go with her, don't go back to your office anymore since they're not with you,” he instructed and I nodded before going back to the lobby with Marina.
“You know, that's the high commissioner for intergalactic affairs he'd just slapped for you,” Marina said with a smirk but it irritated me.
“He insulted the queen of a planet and he expected it to not be addressed? I wouldn't advise violence but it seems that's the language y'all speak so,” I retorted.
She looked at me and her smile widened.
“I knew there was a reason I liked you. Most of your people don't have a single backbone. Always rolling over for everyone, even XYZs that should be cleaning up after them. Ugh,” she sighed in irritation.
“I don't even want to talk about politics anymore. It's a system that no one can do anything about so I rather focus on other things, one of which is this blasted list. What on earth do y'all need chains for in an after party? And what are those long things? Plugs too? I understand only half of this list and I don't want to look stupid to the new girl so please help,” I pleaded with her but by the time I was done, she was beside herself with laughter.
I was confused, what did I say that was so hilarious?
“You're such a novice. Sometimes I forget you're actually very young with how brazen you are with His Majesty,” she said after she was done laughing her but out.
“What has this got to do with my sexual orientation?” I asked incredulously.
“Honey, ky’rhan parties are basically sexual orgies in disguise. It recharges our energy. Don't tell me you're still a virgin,” she whispered the last part.
I felt quite defensive
“Of course not!” I rebutted immediately, not wanting to continue this conversation as it was getting out of hand.
“Yea, sure. You sound very believable. Look, these are all sexual items and if you know you're going to be anywhere near that, do whatever you can to lose that blush on your cheeks, and don't worry, Fairy won't blame you for not knowing these things, okay? Not everyone is a little hoe like me and your darling husband and well, ninety percent of the alien population on this planet,” she said and walked away, leaving my mouth agape.
Before I could process her words, I heard an alarm sounding across the entire building.
What was happening?
