CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED THIRTEEN

His actions made sense after the storm subsided.

He carried me to our bedroom after giving Zyx instructions to get everyone settled in and all.

When we got into the room, I noticed it was in the exact same state it was the last time I was in there. Like he'd not slept in it one bit.

Instead of releasing me from his hold, Xavier proceeded to start going through every memory I'd had for the past month, making me relieve every last emotion, thought, pain, and worry.

I watched his face as he began to realize what had happened; from concentration, to anger, to understanding and then immense guilt.

Then he let go of my mind immediately as though he'd been burnt by it.

“I'm so sorry,” he uttered but I didn't even want to be anywhere near him at that moment.

I teleported to the human quarters immediately and went in search of my friends who he told me he handed my son over to. I couldn't wait to hold Xander in my arms, at least he loved me unconditionally. Even when he was still in my belly, he fought to protect me.

But I noticed something was off about this place. The human quarters were usually filled with excitement and idle chatter, unlike their ky'rhan counterparts who preferred a solitary existence.

But it seemed everyone was in their rooms as I walked down the corridor that led to her door. I didn't want to suddenly appear in there and shock them so I decided to walk down the last corridor that led to their room.

There was a staircase on the left that led down to more rooms and the cooking area. It was usually bubbling with people cooking and all.

I looked at the time, it was seven in the evening. We maintained the same time as it was on earth so people didn't have difficulty adjusting to the sudden change in environment. Even if everything else changes, that remains constant.

Yet, everywhere was empty.

“Tessa!” I heard a voice exclaim from my right and I turned to see Roe running towards me excitedly from the path I'd just walked through.

“Hey! Shh!” a voice yelled from below the staircase.

“It's the queen, you dumb bitch!” Rose screamed right back at the voice, shocking me.

My best friend doesn't curse.

“What's happening?” I asked as she rushed to me, hugging me tightly.

“I thought you had…” she trailed off.

“And leave you? We're going to grow very old and frail and then die after getting a mean massage, together,” I replied, reminding her of the only part of our childhood plans that might still be possible.

“You remembered,” she cooed, emotion choking her voice.

“Of course. Now tell me what's going on, things look like they've changed out here,” I said as I noticed people begin to walk out of their rooms.

The person who had yelled at us from under the stairs made no move to come out.

“Things were a little weird when you got kidnapped, the aliens accused us of sponsoring the kidnap because Mark said he wanted to go home. Then the King, who was the reason things had not taken a worse turn, took almost all the soldiers to come to find you and placed that.. bitch in charge, and she's turned this place into a shit show,” she finished, breathing as though she'd run a marathon.

“It was like he was so sure you guys weren't going to be back or something,” another human said from the next door.

Then they all began to fill me in on how they were treated like crap, even way worse than how things had been before Xavier forced them to treat the humans well.

I couldn't help the anger radiating through my body.

I'd always gotten weird vibes from Lyra-en ever since she found out Xavier nearly died trying to get flowers for me.

I don't even know how she was the only option. He should have left Zyx back since he had experience with coordinating the entire ship already.

She must have thought he was stupid for coming after me, just one woman while abandoning the entire ship.

Attacking an entire planet with just a few thousand soldiers was definitely a suicide mission, but then, Xavier was worth more than a million soldiers, so her confidence in the failure of the mission made me frown deeper.

I raised my arms to quieten the loud discussions all around the place so I could speak to them.

“I'm back in one piece, so you can be ready and assured things are going back to normal. I've gotten properly trained and the promise I made to the humans on my first public appearance still stands. I'll fight for your interests. If they want war and animosity instead of the peace and loyalty we've been shoving down their throats all these decades, well, let them know I'll give it to them in heaps!”

“Yes!” Someone yelled and the entire floor ricocheted with claps of excitement.

“Thank you guys, I'll need to go see my son now, okay?” I said with a smile and an excited Rose bounced behind me.

“You know she tried taking him from us,” she said as we got closer to her door.

I paused and looked at her in shock.

“What? Why?”

“Who knows? But we never allowed her to know which child was yours. Everyone cooperated to confuse them until she got tired. I hate her so much,” she vented and I could see the hatred on her face.

The thought that I would have come back to meet my child harmed made me shed a tear.

“I'm pushing aside so many emotions and it's making this return such a sad affair,” I said as I opened the door.

It was the most beautiful sight ever.

Lisbeth and that guy she'd been giving all the subtle hints in the world to each had a baby in their arms and immediately, I knew which was Xander.

“Look, Xander! Mummy's home?” Lisbeth said excitedly and the laughter that bubbled out of my son's lips made everything else fade.

I carried him and my heart was full.
