CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED TWENTY-NINE
The rain had slowed down the burning, but it was still hot as hell in there, and I knew it would be that way for some weeks afterward.
I just needed it to not spread.
I picked up my walkie-talkie so I could check in on my soldiers. It had been over five hours since they left here and two since I sent the ambassador and his entourage to get their king.
“Your Majesty, are you okay?” Zyx asked, concerned as usual.
“Yes, I need your status report.”
“I'm currently on an island. We interrupted a war here and are trying to resolve the situation. I apologize for not getting the reports of the others,” he reported, and I could hear the noise from his background, confirming his story.
“It's not a problem. Remember, we're trying to win them over, so take advantage of every opportunity you see to make them choose us. I would rather not lead with force,” I confided in him.
“Oh that won't be a problem, Your Majesty. Whoever rules this planet is doing a terrible job from what I've heard so far. We'll simply offer them a better option. Stay safe,” he replied and I cut the call and began calling my other generals.
By the time I was done, it was already late and everyone else had settled into their different locations.
I gave them a nuclear weapon each, with minimal damage but enough to get out of difficult situations so I knew they were safe.
For the first time, I missed sleep.
My body was tired, but I had to keep this shield strong until the fire burned a little less harshly.
I found a tree nearby and climbed on it so I could keep working but not keep standing.
I stayed that way till the next morning.
I got more status reports from my generals, Memphis helped stitch the leg of a ky'rhan child in one of the villages and they pledged allegiance to me
I flew up, using the wind to support myself as I did earlier to assess the situation and that was when I saw them.
A fleet of jets flying towards me.
I teleported back to the tree I was in, hiding in plain sight.
The jets were quite colorful too, some painted a glamorous gold and some in pink.
If this was the King’s entourage, I wouldn't be able to not laugh.
There was a clearing where the chopper had landed yesterday, but definitely not enough to hold six flights, so only two descended, a gold and a white.
I stayed where I was and watched them.
Then the jet opened and a short, bulky ky'rhan walked out of it.
He was off because we weren't made in that… shape.
All of my kind that I'd encountered were tall, and everything else in different shades but the height was a signature feature.
But the king was a 5”4 from what I observed.
He was wearing a tunic that reached the floor and it was gathering dust with each step he took.
Behind him followed an entourage of older ky'rhans and then human slaves.
It was easy to tell considering they were in chains and walked next to him for whatever reason
But then I realized he was using them as a shield.
Pathetic.
Whatever thought I had about keeping him alive disappeared the moment I saw that.
He walked closer to the shield I placed around the fire and had the stupid idea of touching it.
“Ah!” He screamed in shock when he obviously got burned.
I then increased the fire on that side, forcing him to run back towards the safety of his jet.
“Leaving so soon?” I spoke up from where I sat on a tree branch and watched him pause instantly.
“Show your face, you coward!” He screamed, emotional.
That fire must have hurt him really badly.
I teleported to his front, shocking him.
“You asked for me?”
“Who are you and what have you done to our defense system? Do you know what you are exposing us to? The mad soldiers of Saturn are going to be here again and we won't have any way of defending ourselves because you are trying to show off!” He yelled, his skin changing to purple.
I sighed.
“Look, we don't have to go back and forth. I don't imagine you expected me to lay flat and down just because you knew I was coming to depose you. Besides, once you're out of the way, we'll devise not just a stronger defense system, but we'll take the battle to them. We'll be known across the galaxy for our strength. The only thing standing between that future and us is you,” I replied, staring him down.
“Wait, you're seriously asking me to just hand over my position to you? Just like that? You must be mad!”
I stepped back and looked around at the people gathered around.
“This can be settled in so many ways, but let's see, how about a hand-to-hand combat? Right here and now, whoever wins takes over the planet,” I offered.
He was about to say no but held himself back.
I could literally see the thoughts of how to cheat was running through his mind.
But I was an important step ahead of him.
“Will you take away your shield?”
“If you want that, sure,” I agreed with a smile.
“Then yes,” he replied, which led to an uproar of opinions among his people.
“If I'm to guess correctly, you are all aware that your current king won't stand a chance against me even with my shield off?” I spoke loudly, rising off the ground so everyone could hear me.
“They're simply worried about me killing you. They see how useful you could be if you weren't trying to kill their king!”
“But their king has been trying to kill me and give million ky'rhans for the last five months,” I said and I heard a loud gasp.
I descended back to the ground and pulled a strand of hair from my head and dropped it to the ground.
“What?” Someone gasped from the ground.
“I, King Xavier Seth, Challenge you, Manois Grerr, to a fight to the death,” I declared, and a look of fear crossed his features.
That made me smile.
He noticed it and took the bait, drawing out his hair furiously and dropping it alongside mine.
“I accept your challenge!”
The murmurs from the crowd made me smile wider before getting into a battle stance.
