CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
The shock on their faces transformed into something I couldn't name. It was like they had seen the Messiah that the Christians have been waiting for and quickly they all ran out of the counter, trying to be the first to explain the situation to them.
“Master, we're sorry for the noise but this little twit is seeing herself as some important thing and she dares to insinuate that she's affiliated with you,” the first one with blue, cropped hair began and even though their words were flying right over my head with little to no impact, I still felt sad at how we humans were being considered low in our own planet by total strangers.
The others rallied behind her and barely allowed the Prince respond to them, a cacophony of lies and condescending words directed at me.
Theresa walked towards me, a mischievous smile in her face.
“Just wait till he finally gets fed up with their little drama,” she whispered to me, grinning widely.
“So I slapped her because she has no single right to claim you, even if it's in a joke!” The blonde whose finger marks I could still feel on my face stated, a proud smile on her face as though she had accomplished some big feat and wanted her father to pat her back with a candy in appreciation.
But Xavier was not smiling; in fact, his face took a tremendous turn and right before our eyes, he did that thing he did the other day in his office, only this time it was directed at the Nurse that slapped me.
She shrieked in fear and took off immediately but he quickly grabbed her neck, his eyes a deep void.
Now that the anger wasn't directed at me, I could see his full form without running from it. In fact, for some insane reason, it turned me on.
How he was defending me was insanely hot, his alien side squeezing the nurse’s gullet and the pandemonium from other nurses begging for her to be freed. I was simply overjoyed at him standing up for me.
But he was going to kill her if he didn't stop so I ran towards him and tried distracting his attention from her. Stupid of me, I know but I already got someone sacked a few hours after I came in contact with Prince Xavier. I wasn't comfortable with him killing someone for me, even though she was a class A bitch.
I didn't know the right words to use but the moment I touched his arm, it was like I had an electric wire connected to my brain, shocking me in an amazing way. I had found a new addiction I didn't think I could afford but happily, he got the message and dropped the girl on the floor.
She began coughing so hard I feared she might throw up her kidney.
He wasn't finished with her though as he bent down to her never, his tail swishing furiously in anger.
“Don't you ever touch my wife ever again! Now go apologize to her or I'll have your fucking neck!” he commanded, his tone guttural and drawing goosebumps across my skin. I couldn't even control how much I loved this show of power
Of course the girls, all three of them ran to my direction and went on their knees, begging for their damn lives.
I allowed them ramble on, and I could see the fear in their eyes that this could go terribly wrong if I so pleased but I decided to put them out of their misery
“It's okay,” I said and I watched them run back to their spot and began opening books and folders, pretending they were the hardest workers on the planet but if you looked closely, you'd see the way their hands were shaking.
The girl that slapped me was still having her coughing fit as we walked into the elevator, Theresa latching onto me in a bid to stay away from the terrifying sight that was Xavier.
As we rode up, he began changing slowly and gradually, his face still a stone wall but his tail was like a hand on my back as we rode up the levels of the big hospital.
We were too stunned to say a word. Bernard and his friend stood on the far end and when the elevator opened, they quickly rushed out even though they didn't know where to go.
The corridor was pristine white with doors leading to different rooms, most of them empty.
It made sense as they rarely got sick.
Xavier took long strides ahead of us, and I was struggling to catch up as usual. They had fully turned a corner before they realized I wasn't following them.
Theresa came back and gestured for me to walk faster.
“Walk faster! You know he's pissed,” she whispered loudly, covering her hand around her mouth.
I sped up, trying not to run in such an environment. Besides, I wasn't trying to fall again considering this cast won't be coming out till tomorrow.
I finally reached Theresa but they were quite ahead of us.
“This is the exact same reason my hand is tied up Theresa, the man has wheels instead of legs,” I grumbled and she giggled in response.
“The girl's I used to clean up for him say they enjoyed his speed while they were, you know,” she whispered as we nearly ran to catch up.
I was panting already, my face flaming hot red but her words made me look like an overripe tomato.
“Theresa! How much do they even tell you?” I whispered in response.
“A lot, Tessa. A whole lot” she said as we kept going.
I hated how huge this hospital is. Couldn't they have provided more elevators? At least we would have taken the one closest to it.
“I don't envy you babe. They're probably going to be wondering why he's not calling them again,”
“Totally. But hey, you've got a lot of questions to answer,”
“Me? What did I do?” I asked as we finally got to the end of the long trek, the three men standing at the last room, which was still far off, waiting for us.
How quaint. Yes, I'm rolling my eyes, deal with it. Stupid aliens with their stupid genes making me run a marathon with half an arm.
“They’ve been talking downstairs. The laundry aren't seeing anything on the sheets, the guards aren't hearing any noises besides your loud snores -”
“Hey! I do not snore!” I attacked
“How would you know that?”
“Well..” words finished from my throat.
“Thought so,” she said smugly.
“Gossiping guards. I'll not give them the chairs I planned to give them tonight!” I hissed in mild annoyance and she laughed as we finally got to the room, sweat dripping from my forehead.
His highness was already completely half human, half alien, his natural state with his alien side overshadowing the human part. His hair still called me to run my fingers through it but I'd like to say I'm an expert at self control. I should write a book about it too, we have very few books after all.
“Is there something on my hair, Tessa?” Xavier asked.
Damn, busted. I'll think about the book later but at that moment, I was blushing profusely from being caught ogling the man I'd sworn not to love.
But all traces of mirth or playfulness disappeared from my body the moment I saw Corbin all stitched and wrapped in white gauzes, seriously injured.
