CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR
“Xavier wants to know if you guys want to move to Zorvath with us,” I blurted out.
Deep inside me, I was scared of whatever decision they'd make. Following me wouldn't make me happy because my sister had decided to stay back here but then, if Roe decided to stay back with her family, which seemed like the reasonable choice for her, I'd be going to that strange place alone.
My parent's scrunched up face already told me what to expect but it was my dad that delivered the news.
“Tessy, my strong and smart daughter,” he said with a smile. He took my hand and brought me to sit next to him on the couch, placing his arm around my shoulder.
Anna was already tearing up at this point but I refused to cry. I'd done enough of that recently.
“We're already too old for this type of stuff but I know you are capable of conquering that planet. I have a feeling they'll never stop interfering with our existence so trust me when I say they need you there. You just need to put on that brace face of yours and face every day with the knowledge that you are stronger than whatever they'll throw at you.”
I tried holding back the tears but it suddenly dawned on me that I was seeing my family for the last time. I won't be able to share another moment with them. I won't be able to eat my mother's famous lasagna, my dad's smile would be a thing of distant memories and I'll never be able to watch my sister grow, fall in love and figure out life.
I hugged my Dad who held me while I cried.
Anna joined us as well and then my Mom too.
It was a sad moment and as I finally got the courage to leave, I knew no words would be enough to convey how I felt.
“We'll see you when you board the ship, right?” Momma asked.
It was funny how we'd both forgotten our earlier tiff. I'll probably never figure out why she acted that way and I was fine with it. For now, I'd take any form of affection I could take.
“I think so,” I croaked out. “I want to see if Roe wants to come with me,”
“Don't do that to her. She just got back to her family and if you ask her, she'd feel indebted to you and might make that sacrifice,” my Mom advised.
“That's ridiculous. She's the best daughter anyone could ever ask for and yet, we're not going with her. It doesn't mean we're not indebted. I think she's asking because the girl is about to give birth to an alien baby,” my Dad rebutted.
It made me sad that I might be the reason for the strain in their relationship.
“Dad is right. I would definitely love to have someone with me in such a strange environment and my best friend since I was a child is a perfect choice but I also want to know if she's concerned about the baby and would love to raise him there. But I won't ask her, I'll simply tell her about it and if she suggests following me, I'll get someone to go and bring her here since I'm not allowed to cross the gates.”
“I still don't like how he imprisoned you like that,” Dad grumbled as we stepped out of their room.
“What did you expect? She ran away from him. These aliens are territorial and she's a part of him now. She shouldn't have done that,”
“What's she talking about?” Anna asked me, shocked as I was when Mom began sounding like that.
“Mom is of the opinion we should have allowed Xavier kidnap the three of us and them without our consent and ship us in pods to wherever he wishes so our attempts to run away was foolish,” I explained in a dry tone.
Anna was shocked but I didn't stay back to watch her reaction. I had to call Roe and hope our goals aligned at some point.
I didn't want to do this alone.
I walked back to my old room, guards trailing behind me as if I was the one with superpowers and not their king.
I found it completely empty, even the bed was stripped bare.
“What happened here?” I asked one of the guards.
They looked at each other, like it was some big secret or something.
“I think I'll ask Xavier for new guards, these ones can't speak,” I muttered and turned around.
“I'm sorry, your highness but the King ordered everything transferred to his room when you disappeared,” one of them replied out of pressure.
“So you needed your job to be threatened before you can give me the common decency of answering my question?” I snapped at them, my mood worsening with each moment.
“We're sorry your Majesty,”
I ignored them and walked to the opposite wing where his room was and opened it. I still remembered the passcode.
“You're going to follow me in here too?” I demanded and they shook their head and stepped back immediately.
I shut the door with a loud bang.
I was all over the place.
Nothing was going my way and I didn't see any sort of happiness in sight.
I dialed Roe's number and waited.
Maybe she'll decide to come with me and I'll not have to spend the rest of my life fighting Xavier’s possessive nature with no one beside me.
It was selfish of me to hope for her to come with me considering my own family had abandoned me to my fate but I was terrified of it.
“Hello?” Her voice came through the phone.
“Roe? How are you doing?”
“Tessa!?” She exclaimed, it seemed I'd woken her up from sleep. “I've missed you so much! Hope you're fine?”
“Yes I am. Just a little bit fucked up,” I chuckled at my own words
“We all are buddy, we all are. There's already talks of who's going to be in charge when these aliens take over and I can smell chaos in the air,”
“I told Xavier about that. He said he'll handle it. You don't have to worry,” I assured her. Hopefully he kept to his words.
“But still, what's to say whoever he puts here will be powerful enough to keep everything from exploding? I've been reading books, forbidden ones, and I'm understanding what Anna was talking about.”
“Really? Where'd you find them?”
“There's this website, it's on the low and it gives daily chapters for everyone to read. But I still have this deep fear that there's going to be chaos and we here in the capital would be the casualty. I wish I and my sister could follow you, at least I'll get to raise this Ky’rhan baby with his people. I mean, what do they eat for breakfast? What if breast milk isn't good for them?….”
She kept going on about her worries but I was damn near screaming.
Rose, my best friend was coming with me.
I won't be alone and that was more than I could ever ask for.
