CHAPTER HUNDRED TWENTY-ONE

I waited tensely, as the phone rang for a while.

It was about to disconnect when he picked up.

“Please help me, my sister is in danger and Corbin has refused to save her because I refused to sleep with him,” I rushed out in panic, not knowing which information to give out and the one to hold back.

In fact, I was tired of the fighting and just wanted my family to be safe.

“Calm down Mia Cara, you're not making any sense. Where is your sister? I was supposed to ask you earlier but you were too angry for a normal conversation,” he replied, his voice sounding tired.

“She's with the resistance and Corbin just sent forces in there to kill them. They're just young people and they've never done anything until I told them to because I thought you killed my father. Please save her, call them to put a stop to this, I beg of you,”

“Wait, you are responsible for this?” He became very angry. “Do you know how much you've delayed our journey because of the things your little band of soldiers burned to the ground?”

“I didn't know what else to do! You literally sent me a video of you killing my father!”

“And I wouldn't have had to take such extreme measures if you hadn't disappeared into the wind. I begged you, even in those dream scapes that always left me drained. I tried everything and yet, you insisted on carrying my child anywhere else but with me. I had to do something!”

“You conveniently seem to have forgotten that you were planning to kidnap me, my family and friends to a planet I don't even know if I'll survive in. You treat me like I'm some possession without emotions. You could have asked for my opinion or something. How did you expect a heavily pregnant Roe to survive in that pod for gods knows how long?”

The line was silent after my rant.

“How… How did you know about this? Did Corbin tell you?”

“I overheard you talking to him and then he came to help me escape. He gave me the powder –”

“Liar! He's not that type of person. He's my only friend in this world and would never betray me like that! You're just throwing everyone under the bus so you can get me to free your sister and with lies like this, I'm having second thoughts about it,” he roared and I couldn't stop the shiver that ran through my body.

My mother was going to kill me if anything happened to Anna. I'll probably kill myself first, I could never live with that guilt.

“Xavier, I don't care if you believe me or not. He's the one that put the resistance together which is why he knew where they were and how to get them. I just need you to save.my sister please. I promise to go with you without any resistance, whatever you want, I'll do it but please I beg of you, call of this witch hunt for people who are simply begging to be treated with basic decency!” I screamed the last part out in frustration.

“I'll call it off now,” he said and cut the call.

I waited with tension building in my head.

The door suddenly opened and I stood up, waiting for whoever it was to get in.

I heard a scuffle outside and decided to check it out instead.

“What's going on?” I asked in confusion as I saw about five guards with someone else in the middle.

They sprang apart and Corbin emerged from the middle of the guards.

“Corbin?”

“Your Majesty, please go back inside. We'll take care of this immediately,” Brennan said to me and I looked at him like he'd grown a second head.

“What on earth is happening here? I understand you've been given commands to imprison me here but does that mean you'll also keep me in the dark about what's happening?” I demanded, anger and frustration in my tone.

“I told them I wanted to see you and they had the guts to tell me no one was allowed in there,” Corbin explained as he tried to straighten his shirt.

“Yea, that's what they said. Even my parents weren't allowed to stay. What was so important that you couldn't wait for your king to be back?”

He looked around him and I folded my hands across my chest, waiting for him to answer.

He was either going to lie or turn around and leave because there's no way he'd be able to pour his dirty linen out here with guards around him.

I still felt weird when I remembered how much I genuinely liked this guy. Until Xy’thern connected with my brain, I believed we had something between us that Xavier was disrupting.

I guess the connection with Xy’thern made me smarter and I could feel people's intentions from a distance.

That was another one of the many powers I was discovering as things developed.

“I'll talk to you later since your guards don't understand the meaning of privacy,” he grumbled and turned around.

“Thought so,” I said and went back inside.

The door wasn't locked this time and it gave me a sense of freedom even though I knew if I stepped foot outside that door, I'd be shoved right back inside.

I called Anna again but she wasn't picking.

I was about to cry when a strange number called.

“Hi Your Majesty,”

“Kane? How are you? What's happening?” I asked, tense and concerned.

“Erm… at this point I don't even know. We've been running around the forest, being chased by these massive cars that look like machines. Now they're asking us to surrender or they'll raze the forest to the ground and I wanted to know if we should obey them or keep running,”

“I told Xavier to stop the operation. I don't know why he's arresting you guys but you know what?” An idea came to me and I reduced my voice to speak to him. “Split your forces into two and make sure my sister is part of those that are arrested. The rest must go deeper to where Corbin will not find you. I told Jamal he's an evil person but he didn't believe me,”

“That was our first mistake. Trusting one of them. But I'll do as you've said. Thank you,” he cut the phone.

I dropped the call and tried to sleep. I was pregnant after all. I couldn't wait to tell Rose when all of this was over. I didn't want her anywhere near this madness until I was sure of what was happening.

Before sleep took over, the door opened and Xavier strolled in but
as I looked closer at him, I noticed blood on his clothes.
