CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FOUR
felt stupid afterwards, following Theresa closely but my vision was blurred.
I didn't even know when I started craving his attention and his stupid fake affection.
I didn't ask for flowers so I had no idea why he was lying about going to get them.
Or maybe I was overthinking this, he didn't say when he was going to get them; maybe it'll be when we get to Zorvath, I mean, did I really want him to risk the ship just to get me some silly flowers?
Of course not so I steeled my emotions and focused on getting through the next hours with these meddlesome ky’rhan women.
We got to the transport system and she keyed our destination into the bicycle-like machine. It had a long, wide pad two people could stand on and there were hundreds of it here because it was the central spot for that. There were stops all over the ship as I'd been told.
I held her back and we began heading to the pool.
I'd come through this path several times over the last few days and the interior of this spaceship always amazed me.
Apart from the different forks leading to different places, it was beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery, against the backdrop of technology for everything we needed.
Everybody knows to have their bath before 10 am or forfeit that till the next day. Supplies were meticulously managed even though we have enough for six months because we needed to be prepared for eventualities.
The recycling system was also surprising. Every morning, workers, both human and ky’rhans alike, regardless of class walked around, emptying it into a portal that led to the engine room. Xavier told me that the waste is incorporated with manure and used to fuel the ship.
We finally got to the recreation center and she had to reprogram the bike to take us directly to the pool area as it was too large to walk.
As I walked in, the entire arena paused to watch me walk to the pool area.
Everyone knew about my pregnancy now so I wasn't getting as much hostility as before and children were actually encouraged to come close to me unlike before when mothers hoarded their wards away from the human queen.
It was like I'd passed a right of passage by becoming pregnant.
I saw the small crowd of women seated at the bleachers facing the pools and we headed that way, avoiding the playing children.
When the kids saw me, I waved at them.
Children were the only part of this crazy clusterfuck of species that made me smile genuinely. They didn't care about their color or the judgemental opinions their parents held.
I watched them play with each other, the pool having beach sand on one end to give it that feeling of still being on earth. Xavier added it after I told Lyra-en, the only female regional head, that I hated that I was never able to visit one of the many beaches on earth before leaving it.
As I approached the benches where the women were sitting, obviously ABC’s and Moderates, I took steadying breaths. I didn't want to offend anyone today but most importantly, I didn't need anyone making me feel like I didn't belong here.
I know that already but their King insisted on me being here so they needed to suck it up and treat me normally.
“Good morning ladies,” I greeted with a bright smile, hoping to make a good impression.
They perked up all at once, I noticed they had all been paying attention to the children swimming in the smaller pool and hadn't noticed me coming over from the other side of the bleachers.
“Wow, they are fast,” I commented, impressed with the speed they displayed.
“Yes, they've been training really hard in school and didn't get to demonstrate it before we were forced to drop everything and head to Zorvath,” a lady in the front row replied and I had to do everything to keep my eyes on her face and not her large, open breasts.
Since we got into this ship, it was one thing I noticed. In their ky’rhan forms, they wanted very little clothing, in fact, the shorts they wore got smaller and smaller with each day that I was scared they were all going to be walking around naked soon enough.
“You didn't want to go home?” I asked as I was ushered to a seat next to her.
The looks on their faces showed they were all of the same opinion.
“Good morning Your Highness,” the slimmer lady next to me decided to reply, “I’m Nexaura,” she said with a smile.
“Hello Nexaura,” I gave her the forehead greeting they taught me the day I joined them for dinner the second day we were airborne.
“We were just uprooted from a life we'd become familiar with without any sort of explanation. I know we're women and don't get many rights like you humans like to call it but forcing us all to return to where we have no idea how it is right now just because the former King was having a fit wasn't the best thing to do,” she explained and I was shocked.
“You do realize your system is only surviving Earth’s atmosphere, not thriving or living, surviving?” I asked and they were looking at me like I'd grown a second head. “Look, we humans are definitely going to be in for a load of shock when we get back to your planet because the oxygen in this ship is the purest we'd ever have. Afterwards, we'll have to start grappling with the change in your atmosphere. Meanwhile, you'll actually begin to retain moisture, have healthier skin and all of those things that make you blossom. This has always been the plan, Seth just sped things along by threatening to destroy everything they've built just because he didn't get to be king.”
The audience around me erupted in claps and excited cheer and I looked around, trying to figure out why.
“Oh,” I gasped, seeing the next set of kids swimming.
A human boy and an alien were at the forefront and I was confused on how the human was that fast. These aliens were a mix of aquatic and mammal components and could survive inside the ocean if they didn't like the oxygen so much yet the human boy was nearly ahead of him.
When the ky’rhan boy won, the boy looked crestfallen, and I could see he was close to tears.
He was brought to the podium along with the other boys for me to give them medals.
“Congratulations, you're a star,” I said to the winner, a proud ky’rhan who looked really cute with a dimple on his blue cheeks.
His tail swished fast as he smiled at me and took his cup and ran to his stepmom. I still haven't figured out how these women dedicated their lives to children from other women and loved them as their own.
“What's your name?” I asked the human boy.
“Caden,” he replied, his voice very low.
“You made me really proud, Caden. You are a winner no matter what, okay?” He nodded, bending his neck for the medal. “Will you smile for me?”
It took him a little while before he did.
“That's sweet, we're best friends now, okay?” I whispered to him and gave him a high five, making his mood better as he ran off.
I noticed the faces of the women frowning but that wasn't what made my mind skip.
I looked at the far end of the ship, the back of the bleachers on the basketball court on the other end.
I didn't even know my eyesight was getting that good but I saw the unmistakable opening in the ship.
Something was wrong with Xavier.
