CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE

The journey through the Xy’rhan city, the capital of the world was crazy considering none of us knew the way. We didn’t even know where we were going, we just relied on the map in Anna’s phone that said this way was the fastest route out of town. Another problem we faced was me. Being the queen had never made life so difficult as it was at that point.
As had happened three times before, a car passed by us and then screeched to a stop.
“Oh God, not again!’ Anna groaned.
“I have a feeling we’ll be trending on that crappy social media thing if we don’t find a more hidden route to walk on,’ I replied, tense about the questions that Moderate was about to throw at me.
“I have no way to know if the road is hidden, these thing are just lines that tell you where to go, not pictures,”
The man hastily got out of his car and ran over to us, his tail nearly hitting the back of his Car. I wished so much for mom’s van right now, even though none of us knew how to drive.
“You looked so familiar that I had to come back to check, your majesty,” he began, his smile as fake as the hair dye on his head. “Are you in trouble of some kind?” he asked me.
“No I am not, thank you for stopping to check,” I replied, not wanting to talk more than absolutely necessary. Maybe he'd get the message and head back to his destination.
No such luck as he continued his questions.
“So what is our queen doing, walking on the road in such weather?”
The weather was perfectly fine for crying out loud, what was his problem? I didn’t let my smile falter and leveled a gaze on him that should say ‘I’m tired of this crap’ even though my mouth couldn’t. I didn’t like that aspect about being a queen.
“We went out with the King and decided to take a walk,” then I reduced my voice to whisper even though there wasn’t anyone close by that would hear our conversation; even my sister and friend had walked to the front a little bit. “We kind of sneaked out, my husband is quite overprotective,”
“Of course he is! The man is the king of two worlds, what did you expect? Everyone is even surprised at how well he treats you. All that shopping and trips for a mere human. Your stars are really lucky,” his fake smile and attitude was gradually slipping and I had the urge to do the same but the last few months had forced me to grow up and I knew giving him the same attitude wouldn’t go well for me.
“Yes, he's quite wonderful but I guess being his soulmate and all, that is quite expected,” I replied coolly, sidestepping him. “I hope you have a great day, we must get back to him soon before he starts worrying his head off, okay?”
I breathed a sigh of relief when he sped off, definitely in anger. I joined the girls in front and I knew they were over it as much as I was. These people would soon start crowding on this road if I didn’t find myself out of it.
“How close are we to leaving this damn place?” Roe asked, echoing our concerns.
“It says fifteen minutes,” we groaned at whatever Anna was reading off her phone, “I know, I know but hey I have an idea, what if you wear Roe’s shawl over your head? There’s another road we can switch to,” she suggested.
“That’s actually a great idea, I’m tired of these bastards and their stupid opinions. I haven’t even left this capital since Momma drove us here and he’s yapping about trips and what not,”
“They are still and will always be bitter about him choosing you over them which is stupid. For one, it's his alien’s choice and two, how else would he have gotten those new powers he keeps displaying to them if he didn’t connect his mind to yours, taking away your will power? Ungrateful species, the lot of them,” Roe snapped, the pain in her words echoing how much she had endured in the hands of these people. And she was right, they were ungrateful and entitled too, taking everything from us and expecting us to be happy about it.
“One thing goes right for us and they’re throwing tantrums all over the damn place,” I grumbled as I wrapped the shawl around my head, hiding my face a little.
“I really hope Anna’s discovery or whatever helps us in taking them down, all of them,” she declared as we followed Anna into the next street.
“It’s a game changer, trust me. But if they find out we know, we’re dead, no questions asked. So we must be really quiet about it and only talk about it when there are no chances of us getting caught. It’s the only reason I've kept it to myself this whole time,” Anna explained.
I nodded, completely understanding her. Our world was going to change through us but only if we did the right thing and carefully too, these people are crazy and addicted to violence. Without Xavier's protection, I had to be very careful.
As we walked on, I could see the end of the smooth road in sight and I've never been happier to see an untarred road before in my life!
Suddenly, a van stopped next to us.
“Oh heavens above, not again!” I groaned in frustration. “I thought we had finally escaped these stop and ask scenarios with these aliens,”
“No, Tessa, look. It’s a human,” Roe whispered to me and I turned to look at the van.
She was right, an elderly man with white beards, wearing a black T-shirt and a facecap had stopped near us and he winded down his mirror as we watched him.
‘Hello, my name is Henry,” he said, his voice shaking as though he was scared or something. Shouldn’t we be the scared ones? He was a man in a white van, classic kidnapper vibes if you ask me.
“Hi Henry, how are you doing?” Roe responded to him
“I’m fine. What is a pregnant woman doing, walking on the road? I was going to drive past but I would feel terrible if I didn’t stop to see if I could help.”
We exchanged looks between ourselves. Trust was a big deal in our world but then, I could see how tired Roe was. Strong, black woman she was but this was too much and she’s pregnant for a damn alien baby. Besides, what were we gonna do when we eventually crossed over to human territory? We didn’t think that far and this looked like the universe was looking out for us.
“Should we?” Anna asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I mulled over it for a second more and nodded, walking closer, he was human after all, I looked at his kind eyes. I just had to make sure my shawl didn’t come off.
“We are heading to Brown County, close to the new hospital, are you headed anywhere close?”
