CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY-NINE

The car began going at a very fast pace but I didn't say anything.

I was on a time limit after all.

Soon enough, we got to the capital building, and I was ushered in to see the King.

“Xavier!” His Majesty called for me right from when the doors were opened for me.

It was a large office, the huge throne at the head of it contrasting the modern look of the place.

“Good morning Your Majesty!” I greeted him after the salute.

“Oh, don't be so formal with me now; you're my son. I might not have been the best father, but you were and still are the best son anyone could ever ask of,” he said, and I was confused but flattered.

“Thank you, Your Majesty, your kind words mean the words to me.”

“I should have said them more when you were younger but I was always hard on you, trying to force you into my skin instead of letting you live in yours,” he said as he got closer.

His face changed from the young, energetic king I knew to a fragile, old one, relying on me to stand up.

“Your Majesty, are you alright?”

“Yes, I am; you sent me on a journey of self-discovery while you headed on yours. Stop feeling guilty about it, alright?”

“Yes Your Majesty,” I replied, still having no fucking idea what was happening.

Right before my eyes, he changed back again to a younger version of himself.

Maybe this was normal, and my loss of memory made me feel so shocked, but I didn't want to draw attention to myself,f, so I didn't react to it.

“But now you have to go on this journey and win this battle for me. Then you'll be given the highest recognition ever conferred to a common man. You'll become a Moderate,” he announced and I heard claps around me, shocking me again.

I didn't even know people were in the large office, but I looked behind me, and sure enough, over a hundred people were in the office, and they were smiling at me.

“I will do whatever you want, Your Majesty,” I replied, eager to please him and get this important promotion.

He nodded with a smile, walked over to his table, and brought out a file.

He opened it, scanned the contents, and gave it to me.

I opened it and began to read it.

Each line was worse than the last, and the demand was too much.

I looked up at him and his eyes were no longer gray but red.

“Well?”

I gasped and took a step back.

“Your Majesty, I... I can't,” I whispered and the crowd gasped.

“You can't what?”

“This is genocide, I can't kill my fellow humans. They're not hurting or disturbing anybody, why should I do that?”

“Because you get the highest position ever given to one of your species,” he replied matter of factly.

I looked behind me and moved back in shock. The crowd was now angry and had knives and swords in both hands, and their tails were poised, ready to strike.

But what they wanted me to do was impossible, I kept shaking my head.

“I'm sorry, I can't do it,” I whispered as they all jumped on me, piercing my skin and breaking my bones while I screamed.

The torture went on for a while with the King making no effort to stop his people from killing me.

And gradually, everything faded to black.

***

I awoke back in a boxed room, faced with a camera and a screen that had three checkboxes on it.

The first one had a huge X marked on it, and that brought me back to reality.

I'd failed the first test.

It made no sense to me that they'd expect me to kill the humans, and I would tell them again and again that I would never allow them to hurt them again.

I was part ky'rhan, part human and both parts of me were important.

Then I remembered a part of the test that had me reeling.

Was it real or not?

Could Corbin still be alive?

Before I could think further down that train of thought, I was sent spiraling down another rabid hole.

And this time, they didn't immerse me in another personality.

I knew who I was and I knew that the young man laying waste to aliens in their numbers was my own son.

The battlefield was larger than my eyes could see and there were three different species of aliens, one part looking like the Draks with their muscular build, but with tusks and a tail, and the second group was very long human-like creatures with a faint, green color and the third, who looked to be the strongest based on how many ky'rhans they were fighting directly were like elephants on hind legs, tall, large and running around the filled killing everything in their path.

But nobody was as dangerous as Xander but the moment of pride was taken over by a feeling of fear. He was different because of what had happened during his pregnancy, what if he brought this war on these aliens for no reason?

“Xander!” I screamed at him,. confused and scared for him.

We were on the battlefield and he was the deadliest being on it

No one was engaging directly with him, he was chasing and killing them.

As he heard me call his name, he paused and waited for me to catch up to him.

“Dad, why aren't you fighting?”

“What's happening here? Why are you killing all these people?” I demanded

He frowned at me and then turned around to scatter an arrow that was fired at him as well as the person that had fired it.

“What do you mean? Are we supposed to not do anything after they murdered my sister?”

His words rang through my soul and a righteous anger took over my body, I joined him in the fray, murdering as many as possible.

By dusk, the battle was over and we had eliminated a large amount of the entire population except women and children.

That didn't quell the anger inside me, though, but it would send a message that Zorvath wasn't a planet to be messed with.

As we walked back to our ship, I looked back at the battlefield.

A realization hit me; none of these people had hurt my child but they died for the actions of their leader.

I decided then to prevent this future.

So I turned to my son and said to him;

“Tell me how it happened, and don't leave out any details.”
