CHAPTER FORTY-NINE

As my father held my arm in his while walking me down the aisle, I was trying to focus on putting one foot in front of the other and to keep the tears that were trying to spill at bay.

Xavier stood at the other end with not a single smile in sight. It felt like I was being led to a sacrificial altar.

“Are you alright, Tee? You've been quiet all morning,” my father whispered, ever the attentive person he's always been.

“I'm fine Daddy, you don't have to worry about me,” I told him. I didn't need them to panic or anything. I was maturing so early in life and I knew drama at this point wasn't going to end well for me so I plastered a fake smile on my face and I kept walking while the orchestra played.

“Okay Baby Girl. But you can't fool me though. I know this wasn't what you've always wanted for yourself and I understand the challenges you're facing but you must remember who you are and why you're doing this. You can fall in love with him but make sure you're looking out for your people. That's the only thing that'll heal that guilt that's eating you up everyday,” he advised me and my hold on my tears shook.

I know he's always been able to read me but he was so spot on that I paused my walk, needing to take deep breaths.

“You've got this, baby. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, it's gonna be over soon,” he assured me and I listened.

There was an obvious exhale from the audience as I began walking again and it made me realize how tense everyone was.

The crowd was evenly divided into three; a lot of ky’rhans who probably formed the council all sat at the front rows and watched with rapt attention.

I always wondered who was going to marry us since the King was in the dungeon back home but I saw an old man who wore long, priestly robes and I remembered reading about the first successful mutation from this set of aliens. The first ones were back in Zorvath.

The man has an uncanny resemblance to the picture I saw but that would mean he's over two hundred years old so I guess his son just looked like him a lot or something.

I refocused on the crowd, the ABC’s and Moderates taking the pews by the right and the humans which were basically my parents and pregnant women that came with their alien baby fathers.

It dawned on me that I needed to do as much as possible to reduce the divide between us no matter what it took. This was the reason why this happened to me instead of anyone else.

I had the strength and I was bonded to him, so I took it upon myself to make a change in the status of my own people.

I noticed everyone wore white in contrast to the blue I and Xavier put on.
My dress was long and hugged all my curves with the veil sweeping the entire floor.

I remember seeing it in one of the magazines Theresa showed me and I knew it was perfect.

It had shimmering tiny beads on the upper area and the down side made me look like a pretty mermaid.

My hair was designed intricately and the makeup was perfect.

I didn't feel like I looked though but I had decided to get through today no matter how I felt.

Xavier was putting on a darker shade of blue, his suit form fitting and it made him appear like he was already a king.

He had knuckle rings that I had just noticed when my Dad put my hand in his and With that thought, I stood straighter as my father left, handing me over to my husband to be with a nod and the ceremony began.

The orchestra played the last tune and quieted immediately and everyone stood up; the humans got the memo a second later so it didn't look even.
But it showed how this wasn't going to be a human wedding even though it was a human that was the bride.
But I'd decided to not make a big deal out of anything, which was unlike me. I loved to ruffle feathers and understand why things had to be a certain way but this was my introduction to the people that could decide how the rest of my life proceeded and as much as I didn't care about impressing them, I wasn't gonna piss them off unnecessarily.

The man who I thought looked like a priest but was probably some head of council or something walked over to us with a bowl in hand.

“We’re here to witness the Pinnacle of our journey here on earth, a celebration of the rebirth and conquest of our own world Zorvath and the happiness of our future King and Sire, Xy’thern Xavier Seth. Let us extend our blessings as the gods will,” he spoke to the crowd and they all stretched their hands towards me and began muttering some words in their language

He put the bowl under own joined hands and I watched Xavier’s finger produce a long talon that looked like it could cut through stone but he cut his palm and did the same with mine.

“Ouch,” I exclaimed, the sharp pain shocking me.

“Shhh,” the priest chided and I gave him an annoyed look but I held back my feelings.

When he was done collecting the blood from the both of us, he walked to a tube that led to a sort of tank thing and slowly poured it in.

He came back and the smile on his face scared the shit out of me.

“Our mission is complete! From now on, we must begin to prepare our minds and bodies for the victory that awaits us!” The priest screamed and the crowd cheered in excitement.

I felt very strange like I'd walked in on a cult initiation, only this was supposed to be my wedding.

Xavier didn't meet my eyes throughout the process and as they put away the eery utensils and chants, I felt strange.

The priest handed over to another who wore white robes like a Catholic priest and he began conducting a more human-like wedding.
We exchanged rings and when it was time to read the vows he whispered something in the priest’s ear and they ignored that part.

It was the type of wedding you'd wish upon your enemies but there I was, going through it without even bothering to protest.

I mean, what could I do? I'd signed it on paper, he had control over my mind and my life now belonged to these strangers who only saw me as a tool for their war.

So I endured it until it was time to kiss.

I'd expected him to wave it over like every other personal situation but he allowed the priest to look at us with that stupid smile that I had no idea why and pronounced the words.

“I declare you both, Husband and Wife! You may Kiss your bride!” he exclaimed and Xavier shifted to Xy’thern.

Was he angry that his alien side was getting more comfortable with me?
The man confused and frustrated me but I took a deep breath and waited for it to happen.

His hand drew me closer and my heels meant he didn't have to bend down to reach my lips.

He connected our lips and the crowd cheered but he didn't stop there. He proceeded to kiss my lips thoroughly, and I gasped in surprise at the sensation, giving him entrance into my mouth.

My body betrayed me and I kissed him back, my hands holding his shirt for stability.
The kiss was going on for long and the priest had to cough, making us spring apart, Xavier taking over immediately.

He looked enraged and his anger was directed at me.

At this point, I was done with his hot and cold attitude, and thankfully, the priest was also done.

They rounded up the ceremony and we were ushered into the waiting crowd who were congratulating us.

The aliens focused on their Prince who had achieved a big feat and I went to say goodbye to my parents who were heading home from here.

“You looked so beautiful up there, my love. Everyone says your wedding gown is the best they've ever seen, and I told them my daughter has a keen eye for great things,” my Dad said to me with a smile.

“Thank you Dad. I'll come visit you guys soon, I can't wait to see what you've done with the house,”

“We're expecting you baby. Don't be in a rush. Meanwhile, look who we found!” She exclaimed and turned around to reveal my best friend, Rose.

But from her sunken eyes and the healing mark on her face, I knew something was horribly wrong and the smile on her face couldn't hide it one bit.
