CHAPTER NINETY-ONE
‘What could make him sound so urgent?’ I wondered out loud, getting antsy.
“What's wrong?” Rose asked me, noticing my unease after the phone call.
“Corbin, his second in command wants me to meet him in the Jacuzzi room,”
“But his Majesty wants to talk to you and I don't think it's normal for you to take a bath for that long when he's expecting you,”
“I think I'll just change and I'll tell him to give me more time so I can take you to the doctor first,”
“Okay, that's a perfect excuse,”
I rushed into the bathroom and had the world's quickest shower in seven minutes and I helped Roe change into a comfortable gown.
“Pregnancy suits you in such a beautiful way,” I told her, the flowery gown making her beautiful caramel skin pop.
“Thank you so much Tessy. You don't know how grateful I am to you for saving me. I wish we had more time, my mom wants to see you so badly,”
“Don't worry about that, once we figure this shit out, I'll go with you so we can go see her,” I replied with a smile as I pulled her into the corridor.
She stood near the elevator as I rushed back to his room, the door bringing back memories of the last thirty minutes.
I had gone back with the intention of bathing in his room. Well, I was hoping he'd give me another orgasm but I guess that'll never happen again. He showed me heaven and shoved me down to hell. I'd listened with rapt attention as he planned to kidnap me and then gaslight me because he was so confident I was in love with him.
This time, I didn't stand and listen, I knocked at the door.
He opened it immediately and looked at me weirdly.
“Mia Cara, it's also your room, you don't need to knock anymore, okay?” He said and stepped aside for me to enter but I stood my ground. “Why are you standing out there, come on inside?” He urged but I shook my head.
Scared that he was going to smell something was amiss, I had to switch my face up into a smile and I didn't care if it was glaringly fake, the other expression I had on wasn't going to sell this.
“I wanted to let you know I was going to take Roe to the clinic first before I come back for our talk. I hope that's okay?”
His face fell before he nodded.
“That's fine, just call me when you're done, we don't need to talk in here. We’ll do that when we get to the safehouse, okay?”
“Okay,” I nodded.
He kissed me long and hard and I blinked tears away as my body betrayed me, my heart palpitating at his affection.
“Hey, are you okay?”
“Of course, yea,” I replied quickly.
“There's tears in your eyes,”
“I'm scared of your father getting to my parents, I don't even know where they are,”
“My love, you don't have to be scared about that, okay? I'll have them at the safehouse before we get there, alright?” I nodded.
“Good girl, now run along, your friend is staring daggers into my skull,” he joked and I laughed before walking off, my body still high on conflicting emotions.
As I walked towards the Jacuzzi room after dropping Roe with the Doctor, it occurred to me that between that day on the lake and last night, I'd somehow fallen stupidly in love with Xavier Seth and I could finally understand why my heart was hurting physically and emotionally.
I was heartbroken.

Corbin sneaked into the Jacuzzi room and stood at a spot, waving me over.
It took me a second to realize it was because the camera wasn't pointing in that direction.
Apprehensively, I went to him.
“What's up? What's the problem?” I whispered, his shifty form making me speak in a low tone
I would have been scared of his shady behavior but I guess I was getting used to these aliens turning on me at every given chance.
He was the only one that had never treated me badly in any way and the thought that it was probably about to happen right now hurt my already broken heart.
“Look, I know it's such a difficult thing to believe but I've never lied to you before. Xavier wants to kidnap and take you away from your people and he plans to –”
“I know,” I cut him off, feeling immensely grateful that I finally have someone in my corner.
“Really?”
“Yea, I overheard him telling you everything. Why is he doing all of this?”
“Because he doesn't know how to love Tessa. He's only known one thing, which is to satisfy everyone else but himself. This is his first time doing something for himself and he's messing it up. If I try to change his mind, he'll simply shut down so I've decided to give you a way out,”
“Thank you so much Corbin, I've been so confused about what to do. My friend is pregnant for goodness sake and he wants to shove her in some pod and ship her into space!”
“Shhhh, reduce your voice, he doesn't need to lose trust in me or I'm dead,”
“Oh sorry. What do you need me to do?”
“Follow him to the ‘safehouse’” he physically made the quotation marks with his slender fingers, “he'll stop at a fuel station. You have to make him inhale this and he'll be out immediately so I can come get you, do you understand?” He explained, putting a tiny, powdery pink sachet in my hand and folded it.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked out loud. I felt stupid after it came out of me.
“Because you deserve better than this. It's not your fault he wasn't ever loved, and don't worry, I'll explain everything you heard from him later tonight. You deserve to know what's really happening,” he finished and ran out of the Jacuzzi room as fast as he ran in.
I wasn't sure how I was going to actually do this but I put the sachet in my pocket and went to find Anna.
I was either going to get rescued today or sentence Corbin to death.
