CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN

Corbin was humming a haunting sound while holding Xander who was crying, a smile on his face.

“C.. Corbin, please hand me the baby, he's got nothing to do with.. whatever this is,” I begged and he slowly looked at me, his smile disappearing into a deep frown.

“That's.. a lie,” he replied but his voice was completely different from what I was used to. “Without this little critter, that idiot would have killed you successfully, and that would wreck your weakling of a husband, and boom! Everyone would turn to the only qualified ky'rhan on this ship to lead them, but no,” he growled and grabbed his cheek, “you had to fight for your stupid mother and all my plans went downhill.”

I felt chills at his words and actions but also, I felt helpless. Xander was vulnerable and it'll take him less than a second to hurt him.

He stopped grabbing my baby's cheek and focused that wry smile on me. Funny how I was once thought that was attractive.

“But finally, a wonderful opportunity has presented itself to me and I'm going to take it, not just to exact my revenge on you both for messing with my mind like that but I'm going to set things straight in this damn ship before we get to Zorvath so be a good girl and fall in line or I'll have my minions deal with you,” he finished, making me look around to see what he was talking about.

A group of ky'rhans had filled the entire place in their full ky'rhan forms and a fierce look on their face.

But I didn't flinch, if it came down to it, they'd all be down in five minutes max.

“Corbin, you're greatly outnumbered, okay? Hurting my son will ensure you don't even get any sort of trial like Xavier had planned for you because I'll kill you so slowly and painfully you'll beg for death and even if I don't succeed, guess what? Xavier will! So just hand him over to me and we can have a proper conversation!”

He began cackling like the evil villain he really was.

“Come on Tessa, you don't really believe all that, do you? You think because you have some tiny bit of power inside you, you can now kill and torture everyone? I'm giving you one chance okay? And that's because I genuinely liked you at some point before Kaiser showed me who you truly are which is a destroyer of all things Ky'rhan. So I'm giving you one golden chance, that dungeon is open, walk in there with your head held high until I decide what to do with you.”

“It's obvious what I did to your head has done more damage than I thought,” I hissed, walking closer to him.

Then he produced a knife out of thin air, making me pause mid-stride.

“Go back there or you'll never see this brat again,” he retorted, putting the knife right on Xander's neck.

By now, people were already gathering around us and Xavier was walking out of the corridor that led to the control room along with the rest of the generals.

He looked a bit better than before but I could tell he was still weak.

“Oh hey, it's great seeing you cuz,” Corbin explained as he followed my line of vision. “I'm happy we can get everything out of the way as soon as possible. You see, I was just telling your wife here that I liked her so instead of killing her as I'd planned earlier, I'm just going to give her a little bit of the torture you put me through. What do you think?” He asked with a cheeky grin.

“I think you are playing a dangerous game, Corbin. Using my son, your future king, as leverage against us is very dumb. You know why?” Xavier asked him as he walked closer.

I felt a bit relieved that his killing tone of voice was back, I was scared I would have to do this alone.

“Pray tell, what makes you so sure that I'm not about to kill this tiny thing and we can all have a different type of fun?” Corbin asked, making my heart beat faster.

“Because you need him as leverage. The moment you hurt him, all hell will be let loose and you'll be dead without any of us even lifting a finger. You're still alive because the process of killing you would be so slow and excruciating that you might hurt our son so hand him over and fight us like the true ky'rhan you believe you are, the real ky'rhan you've convinced these infidels that you truly are!”

“I didn't convince them of anything like that, unlike you who claims to be the perfect standard, yet you're letting these humans destroy our legacy and pride as ky'rhans! There was a time you were kidnapping them because we knew we'd need servants in the new world but now you've grown soft and are spitting some crap about acceptance and unity!”

I felt a chill run up my spine at the revelation but this wasn't the right place to feel that way. He obviously was trying to put a rift between us and I was smart enough to know that. He could have dropped this information before now, but he chose this precise moment, and the way he looked at me after saying it was proof enough.

“I have no intention of this getting bloody, Corbin, but if you end up hurting my child, this won't end well for you, so just give him to me, and you can go. We'll give you one of these small ships so you can go and do whatever the fuck you want with your life but give me my son!”

“No,” he stated with a shrug that made my heart drop to the pit of my stomach. “Do your worst and you have five minutes to do that.”

I looked at Xavier and he looked at me. I could feel stares at us and the fact that everything hung in the balance.

We had too much to lose, and there was no world where I'd sacrifice my child for my freedom, but there was no guarantee he still wouldn't kill Xander if I did as told.

I remembered how I was able to stop time the time that Drak threw my son to the ground and I decided to do it again.

I tried to recall the panic I'd felt when I had accidentally unlocked that power.

I took deep breaths, replenishing my energy as I poured more into the room with my intentions.

Slowly, I watched everywhere begin to solidify, even the air became still.

The ky'rhans and humans alike were paused in the time pause and only Xavier was free from it.

“Hm, that's a lot of power you have there. But unfortunately, it's not enough,” Corbin said, shocking us both.
