CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

"Where is he? What the hell happened?” I asked as the four of us entered the car, this one completely different from Prince Xavier’s, and I assumed it must belong to the staff for errands.

“Ma'am, he was addressing a crowd at the dinner hosted after he finally ended the age long war in the Middle East when someone shot at them. They've been flown back and are in the ICU,” Bernard explained as he drove us through the large estate and into the part of town we weren't allowed in.

“We? How many people were actually shot?” I asked, my heart filled with fear for the victims. Someone may have been trying to kill him and then killed many others as a result.

He and Theresa exchanged a look before Conrad answered me.
“The details are still unclear, Mistress but the King was definitely shot as well as Corbin. We just don't know the extent of their injury but he asked for you. He wouldn't let anyone else near him,”

“Wait, Corbin went with him? I thought they hated each other,”

“There's a bit of a rivalry between them spurred by their fathers who are siblings but they still do everything together. Our Master is quite a difficult man and Master Corbin is the closest to a friend he has ever had,”

“I really hope they're alright, people should not resort to violence to deal with this situation. If we can have dialogues, everyone can come to an agreement,” I tell them and I see their faces frown at my words. They were benefitting from the system so I know they won't be onboard with that but I still needed to put it in their minds.

“You think there's a way we can live together in harmony, all of us?” Theresa asked quietly. She is an XYZ so she's also suffering from the xenophobic attitude of the Aliens, ABCs and moderates. It made sense she'd want a change too.

“Of course. And look at it this way, sometime in the future, the higher ups will leave planet earth. If we don't figure out a way to coexist now, it'll be a full blown war with everyone struggling for control. It's best we do something now before there's a power vacuum,”

“Wow, you're so intelligent.” Bernard exclaimed as he drove, making me blush a little. I knew a little more than most humans because my father was a librarian before the aliens arrived and he hid away a lot of books before they were confiscated.

He allowed us to read it but we must keep quiet about it or it'll be seized and the family will be punished as a result.

I looked as the scenery changed from the high-end residential areas we lived in and crossed into the Business districts with skyscrapers and large company buildings.

It had occurred to me that I had rushed into the car with the people I had only met a few days ago and this was probably a kidnap situation but I was quiet about it, hoping my instincts were wrong.

They were.

We quickly pulled into the biggest hospital I've ever seen considering we were limited to local clinics that barely had anything you needed. Common colds killed children and there was nothing you could do about it.

As we walked into the waiting area, I had expected a lot of people here considering how big it was but it was the opposite.

Three nurses stood behind counter writing in different books, a cleaner was mopping an already clean floor and a few doctors were walking from one room to the other and others were heading into the elevator.

The sharp contrast to what I grew up with saddened me greatly. I'd been sick twice all my life and I waited for four hours before I was attended to.

“Good evening, Nurse” Bernard greeted the first nurse, a bright smile on her face. Another thing that made it obvious how different our lives were. At the community clinic, everyone was angry; nurses, doctors and patients alike, everyone hated the conditions they found themselves in.
The human doctors weren't allowed to train in the prestigious universities. They had a special one where Moderates taught them how to treat humans, a faulty method according to my dad. All our centuries of scientific progress and research were being used for aliens who didn't even need it that much and we were left with ancient technology to treat our wounds.

“Welcome, how can we help you?”

“We're here to see the Prince. He called for us,” He replied.

This response gave me a minuscule burst of hope that the Prince was not badly hurt but that meant Corbin must have been in dire danger for the ICU to be mentioned.

But the nurse's face switched from extremely pleasant to disdain.

“The Prince? Please. He doesn't associate with the likes of… you,” she sneered, pointing at me and Theresa.

Wait, is she.. profiling us?
“What has our position got to do with him calling for us and what's your business? You have access to him so call him and let him know we're here. There's no need to show your teeth, call him immediately” I snapped.

This gained the attention of the rest of them, and they were all moderates, slim with a cinched waist that made their uniforms look like a costume for a party and their tails flipping around like they were excited but right now, they were looking at me like I had grown two heads.

Which makes sense because normally, humans aren't even seen on this side except their Alien Masters bring them here to give birth. Most are too ashamed anyway and use their in house clinics for that. Here was only for serious emergencies.
And when they do come across humans, most of us are docile and mostly quiet, never wanting to get into trouble.

I've never openly interacted with them so my stubborn streak has gone unchecked. I hated the system and whatever I could to fight against it was done without levity and right now, even though I hadn't officially signed myself away to the prince, I had more power than I had ever had. I wasn't going to throw that in her face obviously, I didn't have a ring or anything but I was definitely going to have fun provoking her to stupidly try to hurt me.

“You stupid bitch! Do you know who you're talking to? Hey you! Get your fucking human under control or she'll suffer the consequences,” the first nurse shrieked and the others joined in.

“Humans! They think because our men are forced to breed with them, they've suddenly become powerful. Let me tell you, skank, once he's done with you, he'll throw you out just like your stupid sisters and guess where he'll go next? Right back to us!” She barked and I could see that this was a sensitive spot for them. They weren't allowed to have children and were encouraged to focus on simply being beautiful. If a moderate makes a human their wife, they're the most hurt by this so I hit her where it hurts the most.

“But you'll never know the joy of motherhood, all you're good for is to be shiny trophies in the hands of men who don't even love you. We're not here to trade words, okay? You're going to get these men sacked if you don't do your job, the Prince has quite a temper and you really don't want to be at the end of it,” I warned.

This served to infuriate them further and Theresa was even signaling for me to back down.

One of the nurses was so livid she walked out of the counter towards me and that was when I realized how stupid my plan was. Xavier wasn't here to rescue me and this girl could kill me and hide my body and no one would give a fuck.

As she walked towards me, I backtracked, stumbling on my own feet in fear before standing up right.

“So now you're scared, huh?! You thought you could come in here and get a little adrenaline rush, is that what this is? How dare you talk to us like that?” She screamed in my face and when I couldn't respond, fear pooling in my veins like red blood, she drew back and slapped my face so hard I saw stars.

I doubled over in pain from the impact but before she could continue her assault, we all heard a thunderous and angry voice coming out of the elevator.

“What the fuck is going on here?!”

As cheesy as it sounds, I've never been happier to hear the sound of his voice.
