CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

My attention was focused on him as he spilled secrets that finally gave me clarity on Xavier’s actions.

“Zorvathans before coming to earth always lacked the emotional connection humans have and we've sent spies here over and over again because we knew there was something missing in us but couldn't figure it out,” he began as he pulled his legs to his chest. I always wondered how they knew Earth was compatible with their body system.

“Your people were versed in space travels I guess,”

“We were developed beyond our own imagination and we began seeking for other planets to conquer. None was habitable and none offered the opportunity of extra powers like earth,”

“Extra powers? I don't understand,” I said, sitting up. The other day I'd heard they indeed have human souls regardless of their level but this was a whole other thing. If the SOS experiment gave them powers, that would be why they weren't exterminating us. In fact, it meant they were never going to leave us alone.

“Yes, once a human falls in love with her rightful alien soulmate, he develops extra abilities. I can't tell you more than that on that front but you are my soulmate Tessa. Since the first time I set my eyes on you, I've felt a pull towards you, one that makes me want to make you happy and do everything with you,” he whispered and I saw the sincerity in his eyes getting overshadowed by sadness.

“But we can't be together, Xavier won't allow it. You've been the only man that made me feel something and you're not like the rest of your people. I would have been happy if you were the one that got me at the bidding event, things would have been so different,”

“Yes but Xavier's alien form is in love with you. I don't know how to explain it to you but look at it this way. If I were completely human and we crossed paths, we'd have a beautiful love story that would span the length of our lives and if you and Xavier's alien form were to meet without his human form present, he'll make you fall for him. You won't be able to resist him actually but once you do, he'll get powers. He'll be ready to take over from his father. Also, the sex between aliens and humans is out of this world so there's that too,” he explained and I nodded, unable to form a coherent response or question.

My mind was having a classic case of too much information and the fact that things could have been different if he was honest with me at the beginning hurt me. Xavier's human side was simply trying to get me to like him first before his alien side does his mumbo jumbo and I lose the ability to decide if I want to be his or not.
But he was hot and cold, carrying me to bed every night and then sleeping with other people during the day. I couldn't understand him no matter how hard I tried.
Corbin on the other hand was literally perfect. He was emotionally advanced, he traveled the world as an occupation and he was kind to me but he wasn't the Prince so his feelings came second. The entire situation made me extremely sad
I stood up and was about to leave but I turned around.

“So let me get this straight, you're nice and good to me because your human side likes me and your alien side won't really mind the sex and Xavier is acting hot and cold because he's trying to keep his alien form from forcing me to fall in love with him?”

“You're so smart Tessa. I thought it'll take a lengthy explanation but you're right. We've never had such a situation before so he's trying to get me out of the way so we don't fall for each other,” he said to me, standing up from his bed and walking over to where I stood.

“I never wanted any of this, Corbin. I had plans for life after this but all that has dissipated into the air and now I'm forced to deal with situations like this. What if I choose one of you?”

“You know, Xavier told me to ask him for anything in return for saving his life and nearly dying in the process and I asked him for you. You're the only woman I'll ever fall in love with genuinely and he could have done it but he's more selfish than I thought. He went ballistic and nearly beat me up again so I guess that's why he made you sign the papers so quickly. Now, anything that happens between us is considered cheating,”

“Wait, he beat you before?” I asked in shock and it made sense now. He looked worse for wear the morning after our rendezvous at the garden.

“Yea. He's really protective of you and won't stand anyone coming close to you. Us seeing in this way is a dangerous thing. If he finds out, he's going to be really pissed,” he said and I expected him to send me away but instead he came closer to me, making me take shallow breaths at his closeness. I love how he smelled, like the air after it rains and a hint of his citrus perfume. I wish I could bottle it up and use it as my personal perfume.

“The most annoying thing is how much of a hypocrite he is. I walked in on him getting –” the words got stuck in my throat as Corbin got even closer to me, his hands lifting my face up so I was looking directly at his sea blue eyes.

“You don't deserve that, Tessa. Even if he's fighting with his alien side, he should treat you well in whatever form he is in. He needs to appreciate you in every way baby,” he said to me but I was barely listening; instead watching his lips and wishing it was doing something else rather than talking.

My body had been humming with a need I couldn't control since I walked in here , but now with him so close, it was multiplied tenfold and before I could think of a way to stop it before I did something I'd regret, I grabbed Corbin by his neck.
Instantly, our eyes locked in and we looked deep into each other's eyes, and for a second, the world stood still between us.

And then, he kissed me.

At first, I was shocked and unresponsive for a few seconds before I realized what was happening.

His tongue delved into my lips, velvety and possessive. His hands wrapped around my neck and I couldn't help but mesh my body to his, a breathy moan escaping my lungs as I was drawn into him. My body was on fire as we wrestled for control. He won, completely taking over my lips and senses, making me moan into his mouth.

Before I could go on a journey across his sculpted body which had taunted me since he rescued me back at the SOS event, we heard loud footsteps from the elevator and we quickly pulled apart, my body sizzling with the excitement he put into it.

Bang!
I screamed as the door was destroyed by an angry Xavier. Thankfully, Corbin was able to pull me out of the way before I got hurt.

But that was just the easy part.

Xavier was in his alien form, wearing just shorts. He looked more angry than I had ever seen him and all the feelings I had from kissing Corbin began to dissipate the longer I stared at him.

Gradually, the anger in his eyes began to change into something else.
