CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHT

Doctor Fanny and the two nurses in the room set me up on a bed next to Xavier and put a sedative in the blood that was being sent into me through an intravenous catheter.

Then they connected another one leading into his body and I watched as his blood was being pulled out of his side in another IV.

He looked so pale and tired and I prayed this would work.

Gradually, I felt my blood filling into his body, a heady feeling washing over me.

It was like my body was cleaning the blood before it was passed into him; this way, I wouldn't endanger my life and that of the baby.

But it still felt like my life force was being pulled out of my body.

Before I went under, the door opened and Roe waddled in, followed by Lisbeth.

“Heyy,” I waved with a tired smile and they came over to my side.

“FYI, this is crazy,” Roe said and I laughed, the sound strange in the tense room.

“When are you due again?” The nurse asked her as she set her up on a chair.

“Doctor Fanny said in a week or thereabouts. I wish it was today, I'm really tired,” she responded, making me scared.

That was going to be me soon; was I strong enough?

“Better be grateful this didn't happen at the same time you're going into labor. Most of the doctors in this ship would cut off their fingers before touching a human without His Majesty commanding it,” Doctor Fanny grumbled, obviously irritated by his colleagues' antics.

It was the reason why I was comfortable around him even though he'd freaked me out the last time.

Lisbeth pulled her own chair closer to me and held my hand as my eyes began to feel drowsy.

“How long will she be under?” She asked, a hint of concern and worry in her voice.

Although Zyx was here to protect us, there was no way to be completely sure that nothing was going to happen so the earlier we got out of this bed, the better for everyone.

Hopefully, everyone was smart enough to know that Xavier, being alive, is attached to all of us, not just surviving this journey but the destination we were heading to, needed him.

And he needed me.

The thought of that warmed my insides as my mind dissolved into darkness.

XAVIER'S POV

Darkness.

Pain.

So much pain.

A bright light shone into my eyes and someone was trying to pry my eyes open.

I wanted to smack the hand away but found out I was too weak to even move my arms.

The probing light stopped its assault and I was finally able to open my eyes.

I struggled to raise my head and I looked around.

Fanny was looking at a chart and hadn't noticed that I was awake, I watched the people in the room, overcrowded as it was.

“What's going on?” I croaked, my voice hoarse.

Everyone started in shock, their attention pouring towards me.

Then I looked at my hand and the blood being passed into me. At first, I was shocked; this made no sense. My blood was the strongest in my world, so I always knew I'd be dead the moment a blood transfusion became the reason for my survival. It was one of the reasons I funded medical research to the point where it is today.

But my eyes trailed after the IV line and reached the person on the other end.

Tessa.

The machines beeped rapidly, my shock causing it all to malfunction.

“What the fuck is going on?” I yelled at them, my body filled with rage and fear. “She's pregnant! How could you do this?”

“Your Highness, we had no other choice! Please calm down, you are still at risk,” the doctor said, rushing over to readjust the syringe needled into my skin.

My mind couldn't process all of this even though it was faster than any computer system, but I knew I was shocked, livid, and terrified.

I pushed him off, my weakness showing in that he barely moved an inch but it was enough to give me space to pull out the needle from my hand.

“Did she give you consent to do this? Zyx! How could you allow them to do this?!”

“Like the doctor was trying to explain, it was either we did this or you would die. Our lives literally depend on your survival,” he explained.

“So you chose to sacrifice her?!”

“No, that's not how it happened. She actually consented to this. Look, her friends are here, you can ask them. She wanted to do this for you,” Fanny blurted but I refused to believe that.

“The girl hates me, Fanny. Why would she want to put her life on the line for me? It makes no sense,” I argued, going over to check her pulse.

It was faint.

“It's true, Your Highness. She's angry at you, obviously, what you did to her was horrifying, but it doesn't mean she wants you dead. Also, the doctor assured us that she'll be fine. She and the baby,” her pregnancy friend explained but it still wasn't registering.

“Then come and check her pulse, It's very faint!”

“Shit!” He cursed and ran over to the other side as they began shoving different drugs into her body, and I stood there, watching her fight for her life.

I couldn't believe she'd make such a huge sacrifice for me.

My entire body hurt but my heart especially was in taters. I'd thought she wanted me dead or something but the first chance she gets to sacrifice herself for me, she goes all in.

Xy’thern was weaker than I was, so my strength was on an all-time low, forcing me to walk back to my bed and watch them try to steady her.

I'd never been more scared than I was at that moment.

“Fanny, you have state of the art equipment in this room, so you have no excuse. She must survive this ridiculous decision you made or I'll have your head,” I threatened, my mind refusing to accept any reality where she doesn't survive this.
