CHAPTER THIRTEEN
I don't know when I finally slept off but I was woken up by cleaners and Theresa.
“Miss, hurry up. You don't want to be late for breakfast. Master insists on eating every meal together,” she rasped and I was irritated for a second before relaxing. She was just doing her job and I will properly lash out at the Prince who didn't know the importance of proper resting.
“Why are you here though? Someone else could have woken me up. I thought your job was to prepare sex objects for him,” I grumbled, my arm hurting from so many movements as she followed me into the closet, confusing me again.
“Oh, well since Master is now with you, he won't be needing those specific services anymore so he decided to make me your personal lady in waiting. I'm so excited, we're going to be best friends!” She squealed and the sound grated on my nerves.
She then began picking clothes for me, putting them in front of me and rambling on about colors and whatnot.
“I don't need a lady in waiting, Theresa, I can choose my own clothes. Besides, I haven't become queen yet, this is just unnecessary,” I mumbled and I picked a jean and shirt from the racks of numerous clothing that were displayed in the closet. It was like a boutique and with so many options, I decided to go the easy and simple route.
But my unwanted new attendant didn't think so.
“But your arm – Wait, that's what you want to wear? It's your first official breakfast with your man, Mistress Tessa and in case you've forgotten, he's the future King! You have to dress to impress. See, I've picked this amazing gown, it's Versace, a brand that has proven their worth over the years and as you can see, it's perfect. Don't you want to impress him?”
All I could do was stare in irritation at what she was saying and the pink flashy gown she had picked.
“Theresa?”
“Yes Mistress,”
“My name is Tessa, the next time you call me Mistress again, you'll lose your job,” I watched her face darken in fear.
“I'm sorry Mi - Tessa. Forgive me,”
“And you love this gown, right?”
“It's so pretty and he won't be able to take his eyes off you, look at the neckline!”
“It's yours. If there's anything else you want in here, let me know but I'm wearing what I've picked and that's that!” I snapped and walked away from her stunned self.
I quickly did my business, struggling a little with my appended arm but I successfully got myself cleaned up and curled my hair the way I'd always wanted to since I saw it on a magazine in a shop, I just lacked the facilities for it until now.
I had dark, long hair and even though I was not getting used to anything here so adjusting outside of it won't be difficult, I was giving my hair all the attention I could. Who knows when next I'll be able to afford a curling iron that is so sophisticated?
Besides, if there's anything I agreed with Theresa on, it's that I needed to make an impression and what I wanted to go with was one where I looked simple, nice and I won't take whatever he throws at me lightly.
I got out of the bathroom and applied lip gloss from the big box of makeup she had opened.
“Seriously, Tee, knock yourself out. I'm not in the mood for all of this,” I said as I walked downstairs to the dining room.
Even though it's the second time I've been in here, it's still breathtaking. The table was marble top and the chairs were a work of art, giving the room a picturesque feel to it.
Whoever was in charge of the interior design needs a raise.
And to add to my beautiful view this morning, the table was garnished with food meant for kings. Well, I guess that would be the man I'm dining with. I've never seen this amount of food just for breakfast. Last night’s spread made sense considering there were many people eating it but who was going to eat all of these? I'd counted up to twelve different dishes and hadn't even gone half of it.
“Why do you always come late to everything?” I was startled and saw the Prince walking out of the kitchen wearing a robe and a cup of tea in his hand.
“You literally just met me yesterday, your highness. You don't know that much about me.”
“I have a file with every single information about you, and this is the third time you have been late for something, even prancing around the compound of the mansion late in the night yesterday!” He snarled.
Jeez, I thought we were over that.
“I understand you are upset, your highness but in case you've forgotten, I'm a bit injured so can we focus on the reason you had me awake so early in the morning?” I answered rudely.
I really was stretching his patience and intentionally too. Deep down I was hoping to piss him off so badly he’ll send me away himself because running away seemed like such a short-sighted plan just as Corbin pointed out last night.
I pulled out a chair and began putting food on my plate and suddenly, I heard footsteps coming into the dining room. It was Corbin and he had a cut on his lip. Wait, I saw him last night and if we were not interrupted, something tells me I would have kissed those same lips before the night ended. how come it was torn up so badly?
“What happened to you? you look pretty beat up.” I asked him with concern.
He looked at me wistfully before giving me a once over and I watched him get upset over my state. I still had the sling on and even though it didn't hurt as much, it made it a tad bit difficult.
“Dont worry about me, what happened to you?” he asked, coming closer to examine me but Prince charming wont let that happen obviously and came in between us, slightly dragging his cousin over to the other side of he table.
“I walked too fast and she fell. If you remember correctly, I was infuriated by you trying to take her away from me right under my nose. It is of course not an excuse but you know what this means, cousin. you need to be gone before this week ends. You lost her to me so stop trying to play stupid games!” Xavier commanded, his tone one of finality.
“I don't understand, why are you chasing him away?” I asked, confused by his words and suddenly losing my appetite.
“Because you are mine and that is final! He doesnt get to lurk around trying to make me look like a terrible person to you.”
I dropped my cutlery in anger but i didn't care how loud the clashing sound was
“But you are a terrible person, Prince Xavier. You might not even know it but you ruined my family as well as so many others and right as we are struggling desperately to patch it back up, you swoop in and destroy it afresh! My mother doesn't even know that I've been completely bought and I understand how difficult it is to assimilate human emotions and thoughts but you are also part human. this is all shades of wrong so stop blaming anyone else for how I feel about you but yourself!” I spat and with my anger spent, I began shoveling food into my stomach. I didn't eat properly last night because of the same drama he brought into my life and I wasn't going to let it happen again.
“I had no idea, Tessa. I do what I can to ensure the Zarvothian race survives and some actions regardless of their consequences are very important. When you are done with your breakfast, come to my office. I have something we must discuss,” he said calmly before leaving the room with his cup of tea and barely touched breakfast.
I, on the other hand, my good arm was shaking from so much tension. I hoped against all odds he was calling me in there so he could let me go but knowing my terrible luck, it was probably something terrible.
